I have a question that some of you guys might be able to answer. I have an old set of antlers that an older gentleman gave me, and i would like to know for sure if they are coues or not. he told me it was killed in new mexico about 20 years ago. but im not convinced that they are coues antlers. is there any way i could send them in to someone and get dna results to tell me for sure. it would be worth it to me because they score 152" .

I was talking with a buddy of mine today that is a mule deer fanatic. and the discussion came up what makes me coues deer crazy. he thinks that im stupid that i chase these little deer around all year taking pictures, setting up trail cameras, taking video and whatever else i can do to find that big buck. He really thinks im stupid that i didnt go on my elk hunt this year just to scout for coues deer. when he asked me the question why am i so crazy about these deer i couldnt really come up with a logical answer i just told him "i got bitten by the bug". i thought this would make a good post to see what everyone elses answers were. So..What makes you guys as crazy as i am?

Suggestions on which long range gun to buy
112coues replied to Big Browns's topic in Long Range Shooting
I beg to differ, even if your were to buy a used action lets say at $350.00. I have a gunsmith true my actions for $300.00 a piece. so all in all your into a trued remington action for 650. -
Suggestions on which long range gun to buy
112coues replied to Big Browns's topic in Long Range Shooting
My suggestion would be get a gun built, get a remington 700 action send it to a gunsmith and have him blueprint the action and put a good quality barrel on like shilen, kreiger, or hart. then get a good rigid stock like hs precision, or manners. this set up with shoot 1/4Moa. Now for caliber i like the 6.5mm to 7mm. because of the high ballistic coefficient of the bullet. Right now i shoot a 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5X284lapua, and a 7mm rem mag. and all of them are capable of shots over 1000. Also long range shooting takes a lot of trigger time and knowing your gun, because, after all the gun cannot shoot itself. -
I havnt been out to check my cameras for a while and was able to check them this morning. to my surprise this little guy showed up a few times. what do you guys think he will score?

Frustrated Archery Elk Hunter Any advice, words of wisdom
112coues replied to RoughCut's topic in Elk Hunting
i havn't personally had this happen to me but, i have talked to many hunters that did, my brother shot a bull a couple years ago and he said it was a perfect shot and we never could find much blood at all just a few drops at first we looked for him for 2 days and never found him, and like others said its a sick feeling. iv heard people make the suggestion that if a bull is hit a little high that it takes a lot of blood to fill the chest cavity up and start coming out of the wound and during that time you lose the blood trail. or the animal dies before the cavity fills up enough to trail. just keep your head up it sounds like you tryed your best there are a lot of people out there that would have given up long before you did. I talked to one guy this year and he said he shot three bulls and lost them all!! that made me sick to hear that, I asked him how long did you look for them, and his answer was 20 minutes! It was pretty hard to keep my mouth shut after he told me that. -
