Great hunt in a great unit. Lots of great areas and definitely doable without ATVs. PM incoming with more specifics.

Awesome report…thanks for sharing. One of these years…

Other than paying the day use fee to get into the state park there was no permit required when I was there a couple years ago.

But you don’t even like hunting. 😂 OTC archery mule deer in 36a used to be a lot of fun…

2 kids hunting 35a deer/javelina help!
bigorange replied to Dadof3's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
One thing I don’t think you can practice enough with kids is target acquisition…hard enough for them to find a bullseye in the scope. Much harder to find a deer or javelina. Practice shooting at rocks across canyons and other realistic situations. -
Out of stater with a few questions

Lots of big bucks in food plots…just have to have access to the private property. -
2 kids hunting 35a deer/javelina help!
bigorange replied to Dadof3's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Funny when I see a dad post about his kids drawing a tag and mentioning both coues and mule deer I assume he’s talking about a youth hunt with any antlered deer…but with my two kids and youth hints that’s probably just where my head is I’ll PM some info on 35a starting points. I’ve seen coues and mule deer in the same areas and also javelina. -
Pics of the Alpine? this post with the Alpine and the Polaris earlier with Rockford Fosgate…my teen years all over again. LoL

Look into the AZSCI youth camp. Good place to camp and they also have folks that can help with areas to hunt.
-
But if you’re driving there and could road hunt a turkey wouldn't you get a leftover tag?

How bad is the southeast getting? (hunting pressure)
bigorange replied to 180ls1's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Depends on what you’re calling southeast. Around Tucson (36s, 34s) I think there are a lot more OTC hunters, especially from out of state. But that’s not the southeast corner either…I hadn’t really noticed any you tubers specifically over in the southeast corner but I haven’t watched a lot either. I think it depends on the specific area. Based on the 36s there are places I used to hunt that I won’t bother anymore because there are now several outfitters with out of state clients and not a lot of spots there to really hike into. Other areas you could hike over a couple of hills and not see anyone. -
Got it. Another bump for a good deal.

Subject says SPF but you bumped it up? Either way free bump for a good deal…wish I’d seen this before I bought mine.

I agree with Stanley. I haven’t hunted (or even seen) turkeys up there, but Oct deer hunt was a blast. The beautiful country is worth the drive, just don’t drive up there expecting to be in turkeys the whole time and fill several tags. I’m driving up there at the end of Sept for just one night…not hunting anything and it will be worth the drive.

That’s why a lot of folks (self included) used to put in for primo hunts knowing we could get a point if not drawn and get a leftover…those days are over by the looks of the list the past couple years.

Field & Stream Article on Arizona Trail cam ban
bigorange replied to SirRoyal's topic in The Campfire
My understanding is the reason most folks oppose the live view cams is that you could be in the area and immediately know an animal is in another location “now” and go after it. As opposed to knowing that an animal was in the location at some other time when you check the cam.- 74 replies

Beautiful buck!

Lots of rain in SE Tucson and not the crazy wind from Sat night. Registered over an inch of rain over almost an hour. Hopefully not as much damage…we lost a lot of trees in the neighborhood Sat night. Lots of Palo verdes too as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Bumping this old thread…my friend drew this tag this year. Not looking for huge bucks, but any pointers on areas with higher concentration of animals for more opportunity. Already scouting, but slim number of antelope and looking for more areas to scout if anyone is willing to share.
