Need Help with choosing .243 or 7mm-08 Remington/Savage or Ruger???
bigorange replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Youth Hunters
I thought that was the case, but I couldn't find anything on the axis and accutrigger. I probably didn't look hard enough. Yeah definitely go with the Axis II if not going for the Trophy Hunter. If you end up going Savage...I'll be interested to see what you choose and what you think of it since I'll be in the same boat next year. -
Need Help with choosing .243 or 7mm-08 Remington/Savage or Ruger???
bigorange replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Youth Hunters
My buddy picked up the 7mm-08 Savage Trophy Hunter XP youth model combo with a Nikon BDC scope at Sportsmans recently...I don't remember the price but more than the Axis. Seems like it was just under $500. Biggest advantage was the accu-trigger and higher quality scope. He's very pleased with it so far, and I'll probably be looking for the same package for my son next year... -
Sorry you got stuck by that...I was wondering exactly how that would work (even though I've read everything and thought I understood it). I guess I'll be sticking with my "buy a license, OTC deer tag, and lion tag all on the same day" approach. Thanks for posting so the rest of us know for sure...

Hand forged campfire/chuckwagon set with tripod, grill, hooks, and dinnerbell

Nice setup! -
Don't know exactly why I'm posting this, except I guess to complain to a bunch of like-minded folks. I just finished power-washing my driveway...not because I wanted to, but because some jack wagons thought it would be funny to throw green paint all over it last night. At least my truck wasn't sitting there, but man I just don't understand what motivates some people...

Sounds like what I have in mind...I'll send you a PM.

I know quite a few on here are diesel folks or know diesel folks...I'm looking for an auxiliary fuel tank/toolbox combo like an RDS or TransferFlow. If you have one or know of one please let me know. I've been watching Craigslist and some diesel forums, but haven't found what I'm looking for just yet. Thanks!

Awesome...glad you had such a great time and so many memories with your son. Thanks for sharing. Funny how passed shots or missed opportunities and unfilled tags still lead to such great memories. Often greater than filled tags. I know that's what keeps me coming back...if I counted on filled tags I would have quit hunting years ago.

Are you looking road bike, mountain bike, or hybrid/cruiser for tooling around the neighborhood? My wife had a Fuji hybrid (handles like a mountain bike, frame and wheels/tires more like a road bike) that she really liked and rode in a few triathlons before upgrading to a road bike and then a tri-bike like mulepackhunter mentions. Just about anything from an actual bike shop isn't going to fall apart...can't always say the same for the big box stores. But yeah you get what you pay for...sort of like optics. There are a lot of "good enough" brands and bikes that won't break the bank though.

Awesome sight. Very happy with mine...great price too!

I'll take em but I won't be up that way for a couple weeks. Not asking you to hold them, but if you still have them then I'd like them.

My good friend's kid drew a Unit 9 late rifle tag. Looking for recommendations on roads/areas for camping and good starting points for scouting. Not looking for big bulls...we want his kid (mine too if schedules work out and we get to tag along) to have a great hunt and see a lot of elk and hopefully get a shot at any antlered bull. PM if you don't want to post specific areas here.

Congrats on an awesome bull!

Bump for a nice pack. Love mine.

Sticker with an elk in the back....nice sight! Congrats!

Saw the "packin out" pic on the book of faces...nice bull! Congrats! -
Didn't think about no vehicles but that makes sense. This thread sounds like the elk are all quiet there too.
-
Maybe a dumb question, but why is it called the quiet area? Seriously?
-
May not have been the bull you were originally after (bad luck man, but that's public land hunting!) but congrats on sticking with it and getting a great bull!

I don't even recognize those streets...in Tucson? Was it an older Toyota (earlier than the Tacoma) with a big ladder rack on the back? If so, I know who that is...
-
Thanks. I'll PM some starting points I know in 34A...

My unit 9 bull **New pictures and story added**

Man I was hoping you'd updated with the story! Awesome bull...I'm really happy for you Casey. Good luck with your dad's hunt too! -

First HUGE CONGRATS! Daughters are awesome...obviously different, but still awesome. First and foremost be there for her and let her know you love her and she means the world to you. Lots of girls end up attracted to the wrong kind of guy when they get older because they're looking for that. Here's a really good book that I read from time to time as a reminder. Strong Fathers Strong Daughters http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0345499395/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1410902914&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40 I'm due to read it again actually. And above all, enjoy no matter what. She might be a girly girl and not into hunting or fishing, but find some other activities she likes that you can share. And keep inviting her along...get ready to buy some pink camo rifles!
