    Replaceable blade knives

I have the Havalon and Outdoor Edge. I've used the Havalon the most (couple of deer and an antelope), and really like it. The blade is a little thin (like a scalpel...by design) so could possibly have issues in joints, pelvis, or other heavier work, and have to be careful not to flex the blade too much. But like I said I love it. Changing blades is a little tricky at first, and would never change them with just my hands...always use pliers or leatherman. Got the Outdoor Edge as a freebie from Eastman's with a subscription. Haven't used it on any animals yet. Much heavier blade which seems like it would handle heavier work and flexing better. Seems to be a little easier to change the blades too. Hopefully introducing it to my buddy's elk tomorrow morning.

Furthest south you have seen elk?

36C...has to be elk near elkhorn ranch. Had not heard about Empire in 34B. That's interesting.

Where to rent a toy hauler?

Not sure I'd want to rent one of those unless it's been well-cleaned afterward. LoL

    rut timing

Nothing in 4b as usual but 3c has been going well. Lots of bugles in the morning. Not familiar with 4b...is it typically slow to start or later than other units?
  6. +10! I met SirRoyal in 19a on my antelope hunt and he is a class act. Shared a lot of information that helped me on my hunt and I hopefully was able to return the favor.

Backyard bobcat family on a kill...

Didn't get a good look at the kill, but it was rabbit-size.

Saw a hunter on my antelope hunt using a Bob trailer to haul his blind with a bike. Seemed to work well on the walk-in access ranches riding the 2-tracks.

    Using a heater in tent...

Have run a smaller Buddy most of the night (until the small propane can ran out) in an older tent trailer...naturally ventilated as old tent trailers tend to be. Kept it warm and we all lived to tell about it. The guy with the smallest bladder got to fire it back up before the rest of us got out of our bags in the morning. Picked up a Coleman ProCat catalytic heater used a couple years ago, but haven't used it myself a lot. It works well and is advertised as indoor safe too. I always plan to use it instead of the dragon propane-hog in our travel trailer, but then I never do. Easier to flip the switch for that one without even getting out of bed.

    Archery Coues

This is awesome. I think I remember an old post about the lions. Both of my kids have said they want to bowhunt instead of rifle...can't wait. Might be 2 bows on the Christmas list this year. Big congrats to your boy and to you as well Dad. Well done.

    No Guide Fees

Nice explanation Travis. Seems like a great idea to me, and sticking your neck out there trying a new business model. Good luck with it and hopefully pays off for both you and your clients.

    Tribute to my Boys

Very nice. Thanks for sharing and great job Dad!
  19. You sir are a gentleman, and selflessly shared a lot of information with me that helped tremendously on my hunt. That tire was one of the craziest things I've ever seen as it sailed past my passenger side as I drove down the shoulder. Divine intervention is right...that tire was on a crash course for the cab of your truck and took a high bounce. Nice buck...glad your hunter got it done and hopefully some of the information I shared from my hunt helped you out as well. I'm not good at identifying specific bucks..maybe that's one I saw too. Good luck on the rest of your hunts.

    Face cover?

Not that experienced myself, but a much more experienced hunter taught me to use face paint...his reasoning was it wasn't as hot as a facenet or mask, nothing to snag, and didn't have to put it on for a stalk. I have to reapply periodically due to sweat and wiping it off. Saw a post recently about Carbomask...clay-based, made with activated charcoal. Seems interesting and maybe less messy than the paint.

    Badlands 2200 max-1

Bump for a nice pack. Have same one and love it!
  23. Man...where's the love button on this post! Awesome! BTW I half expected the same thing to happen to me...we went exploring on Saturday afternoon in the truck. Didn't take my bow with me, so I just knew we'd see a buck. Didn't see any deer, but the kids had a blast.

    Monster unit 8 buck!

His tag. His deer...with a bow. His smile. Congrats!
