Pima County Fairgrounds archery range closed until 12/13!
bigorange posted a topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Not great timing with archery deer season approaching, but the shade structure will be a welcome improvement. http://webcms.pima.gov/government/natural_resources_parks_and_recreation/shooting_sports/ Southeast Regional Park Archery Range is under construction to have a Firing Line Shade Canopy and Bench Seating installed causing the need for range closure. The construction closure will run through December 6th. Subsequently, on December 7th through 9th, there will a National Archery in Schools Program State Shoot held at the Archery Range, and thus the range will be closed to non-participant public archery shooting. On Thursday, December 13th, we will reopen the archery range to regular public shooting, and you will have a nice shade canopy to shoot under and seating amenities to relax on. Thank you. -

Yeah I agree. Much needed improvement, just not great timing right before deer season. -
Northerner heading South in January (recap)

Depending on the areas there can be a lot of vegetation too, just different vegetation than what you see up higher. A lot more scrub trees, brush, and cacti/ocotillos. -

I’m not terribly familiar with 27 below the rim. Most of 27 I’ve hunted is up higher. Lots of opportunities for glassing in the desert areas. Definitely not too flat. I haven’t hunted mulies much outside the southern units besides Kaibab, but when they’re rutting in the desert they’re very glassable and lots of fun to spot n stalk. -

I’d personally head further south...33 or any of the border units. I’m a little biased living in Tucson though. Desert mulies rutting in January are a blast. -
I should add that I grew up hunting my uncle’s farm in TN...he had lots of issues with folks hunting without permission so I’ve seen the other side as well. Between our family and his neighbors and friends who also hunted his land we had lots of eyes out there during every season though.

Agree. Respect goes a long, long way. What I often find in AZ is ranchers who don’t own the land, but lease grazing rights then treat it like private property. I’ve never really looked into it very deeply and just assumed they were in the right by posting the land. OnX app has helped a lot at least for knowing who owns the property though.

Good stuff man. You’re doing it right. Mine is 11 going on 16 soon enough, so I’m right there with you. I pray every day we stay as close through the teen years as we are now.

Awesome! Huge congrats... -
Don’t tell my kids. They joke every year that they’re getting me a Barbie Dream House for Christmas. LoL

Bump for nice tent. Picked one of these up on here a couple years ago and has been great for backpacking trips.

At least we know the troopers can’t shoot. LoL

Good stuff. Huge congrats!

Funny idea...poor execution given the dry conditions and wind. He did man up and call it in as soon as it happened. Doesn’t make it any less stupid though.

Cool pic and very cool way to print it.

I don't know the gen...he'll probably entertain any reasonable offers since he's been trying to sell for a while. I'll PM you his contact info.

Youth Camp in 36A, 36B and 36C-AZSCI
bigorange replied to Lucky Draw's topic in Conservation Group Events
I saw one really nice 36C coues in camp opening morning and a big-bodied 36B mulie forky that evening. I'm sure there were several other successful hunters that I missed. I didn't get any pics of the camp or volunteers, but it was a great setup as always. The new location is great too thanks to Buenos Aires refuge. We had a great couple days...my buddy's daughter tagged out on a coues forky in 36A Sunday morning with a long steep climb to pack it out. I'll see if he doesn't mind me posting a pic since it's his kid and not mine. Almost scored a double...my daughter had the second buck in her scope, but it was skylined so no shot. Then it went over and disappeared. -
Good stuff. HUGE congrats on a couple of beautiful bucks!

Listened to most of the first half in camp. Chased coues after that and came back to a surprise. Can’t believe the cats blew that lead. Okay yeah I can...just like my Vols let Vandy beat them again.

AZ SCI youth camp is an awesome setup. They do a great job for the youth and the families. -
Nice bucks...and helping your dad get his first buck. That’s awesome! Huge congrats all around.

Daughter’s hunt opens tomorrow. I think I’m more excited than I am the night before my own hunts! Good luck to all the youth hunters, and if you’re at the 36abc youth camp we’ll see you there tomorrow.
