That was nasty. I couldn't watch the replays. The reaction by the players was bad too, everybody in tears.

After all these years of chasing that buck, that must have been a bitter sweet find. Glad he ended up in your hands, that's one unique deer.

Deer pictures

I think that is actually a third bedded deer. -
Very heartwarming. Now can someone post some pics of that beast?!

Good job Phil. -
I just woke up and read this after a long night of calling the G&F. This is a sick joke. And now tonight I have to stay up all night waiting for the Easter Bunny. I think this is the year I finally catch him, sneaky bugger.

I am 100% on board with mandatory reporting and don't know what the departments arguments against it are. What I would like to hear from others is how to make it more accurate. Obviously if your require everyone to report regardless of success there may be some who give inaccurate information. Anyone have any ideas that would help?

Definitely the further South you go the fewer wolves there are. But typically there are fewer elk as well. I never hunted Hells Gate, but be warned, there is steep and then there is Idaho steep. Some of that country is just nasty.

I was born in Pocatello and lived in Rexburg for 3 years. I only ever hunted the east side of the state. Tags are divided up by zone and then you buy an A toag or B tag for that zone. A tags in most units give you the month of Sept to hunt any elk with your bow and then a Nov. season to rifle hunt cows for anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. B tags give a 2 week cow/spike archery season in Sept and then one week to hunt bulls with your rifle in Oct. Island Park is set up slightly different with the A/B seasons and I don't remember exactly what their seasons were. Units 66, 69 and 66a were the hot tickets when I ws there a 4-5 years ago. Those units fall in the Tex Creek and Diamond Creek zones, but youhave to pick one or the other. The Isalnd Park zone can be productive and provides a lot back country but the opportunities are more limited. There will be plenty of folks out hunting so it can get a bit crowded and the rut is nothing like it is here, not by a long shot. But its hunting, you can count on it every year, and there is lots of wide open space. Good luck and let me know if you move forward.

My bracket is up in flames, so despite the fact that I pick Louisville, tonight I will be pulling for the Ducks. Go PAC!

Is anyone else having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that it is going to be the middle of next week before we know? I have been trying not to get my hopes up but I failed and have been hoping all week that today might be it. I am a sad excuse for a man right now.

Depends on which hunt you have. Those cowboy's always seem to do better on the late hunts, but be careful I heard her cook only makes hot dogs.

My brother drew the Jrs Only hunt in unit 1 the first time he put in with nothing but the Hunter Ed point. He put in for it this year with 3 points and according to flatlander, only had about 15% chances. I think it was 19%. But hey who is counting. Those jr cow tags aren't much easier to draw than the other rifle cow hunts, but their dates are more favorable. The neighbor kid drew one this year without a single point, lucky terd. I have never been to a mentored camp but I suppose I will head up there with him this year.

Which hunts did you guys end up applying for?
-
+1 Head to ID. Just don't expect an AZ type hunt.
-
Well I know a lot of guys posted in other threads but let's see how many of the guys from this one pulled tags.

Its hard to say. The wife applied for 2 early cow hunts with no points. I applied for early rifle and then early archery with 6 points. I figure that my odds were a combined 13% and hers were a combined 23%. Based on that I guess I would be saying that its one of her early cow hunts, but there is hope for me too. It seems like everyone I know drew tags this year so I wouldn't mind if I had to sit one more year before I got my early archery hunt.

And so the longest 2-1/2 months of the year begins.

Bond - Learn to do math and read draw reports, it will serve you well throughout your hunting career.

I am think best case would be Tuesday. More likely Friday or Monday. But I will do the happy dance if they do it sooner. I have a $114 charge on the CC.

Hey Kelly I just noticed you are in Ammon. My in-laws live there and I used to live in Rexburg and Pocatello. I am an ID native.

I have had a 99' Sportsman 335 since it was new. I put a bunch of miles on it every year and it has never failed to get me where I need to go. I have had whole elk on it, I had 2 fat hunters, gear and a full mule deer on it, and it just keeps plugging along. It does have a winch, but that's just an insurance policy, it doesn't get used much.
