  1. I posted a thread earlier and asked peoples opinions on kids' bows. One of the bows that kept coming up was the Diamond Infinite Edge. This weekend I was at my biddies bow shop and he had a pink camo one set up for women to shoot. We were able to crank it down to 25 lbs and let the wife shoot it 20 or so times. She had a blast, and even with no prior archery experience was able to quickly start to group shots.. After the wife got done we took the same bow downstairs, put it in the press and changed the module settings. Without changing any hardware we were able to set the draw length to 14.5" and the draw weight at just over 10 lbs. Both my 4 year old and 5 year old were able to draw the bow on their own and shoot it. The bow was a little heavy for them so I had to support their left arm to hold the bow steady. But a 6 year old girl at the shop was able to shoot completely on he own. This bow is incredible. I have definitely found the answer to my questions about which bow is the best starter bow for kids. My boys will be able to shoot this bow (not this exact one we elected to order one that wasn't pink) from 4 yrs old to the time they begin hunting. If they want a man bow after that its on them to buy it This is a sweet bow I haven't heard a lot about so I thought I would let some more folks know about it.

    Remove Freezer Odor

I had that happen once. I never got the smell completely out but with a lot of baking soda and several scrub downs it got to the point where it would not stink when it was frozen.. It was much better once it was froze back up.

Non-Resident Coues Hunt - Late Dec

Winters are typically light in 24b. Worst case scenario if you encountered one of the 2 or 3 snow storms of the year in there you could drop down 1500 ft and hunt mulies. But that can be said of most any coues in the state. I am starting to dig the Galiuro idea, too bad I have a kid due in Dec.

Praying and keeping our fingers crossed . . .
  9. You shouldn't have said anything now we may all be guarded with our comments. I have seen some giant bucks in 31 in during mid to late January, and I know the pine country in 22 and 23 cranks out some giants every year, but I really beleive the southern units produce more big bucks than the northern units. I have never been down there but judging from the pictures I see, it just seems like there are more bigguns per capita.

There are Mule Deer just about every where there are Coues.....! I think he was referring to the drug mules Captain Obvious spoke of.

Non-Resident Coues Hunt - Late Dec

The problem with 22, 23, and 27 is that there are no December archery hunts in those areas. I have never hunted 33 but would have to believe that is a viable option, and after thinking more I would also suggest 31 and 32. If you are doing 31 get a ride to the top of Mt Graham and drop off one of the trails that heads to the bottom. In unit 32 hike into the Galiuro wilderness, just be sure of access due to landowner issues down there. The superstition wilderness in 24b would provide a plethora of choices, sure access and plenty of deer, its rugged and given my druthers I think I would do the Galiuro's but it certainly holds options. I don't know 24A too well but there has got to be some places to get it done there as well. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
  13. Shaved off last year's on Monday morning and started growing a new one. I grew my first hunting beard in 2011 and have been basically bearded ever since. Good luck!

Non-Resident Coues Hunt - Late Dec

If you want to backpack it maybe better to stick to a Northern unit with fewer border issues. I would suggest 21, 24a or 24b you may also consider 29. Good luck. Look for wilderness areas and have at it.

    Got a new Hoyt but..

You can still shop local. Just use the sponsors on this site ie AHQ, Bull basin, etc. In all sincerity Amanda does a great job screening the sponsors and whether they are guides, taxidermists pro shops whatever, they are all top notch. She keep out the riff-raff so you know you can trust them.

    Got a new Hoyt but..

Bear mountain sucks and their archery department is the worst part of it. I shopped their my entire life until 2011. I went in looking to test drive some new bows, the guy in the archery department acted like I was an idiot and belittled my bro in law who was with me. I never stepped foot back in the shop. I should have expected as much from a place that can't even keep their inventory organized and shop clean. Call Hoyt direct, they will take care of you.

    Bun in the oven

Thanks for all the advice and positive comments guys. I was never intimidated by the thought of raising boys, but since we found out all I can think about is all the hormones, and the tea parties, and the boys, and the dances, and someday some guy wanting to marry her. I want to go back and apologize to the father of every girl I ever picked up for a date and apologize for being so cavalier with their little girl. The thought of all this completely blows my mind. I can't wrap my head around it.

    Anybody start their hunting beard?

Not only does my wife hate how I look bald faced, but so do I. I work in an office and wear slacks everyday except Friday and bid days. When I hired on no one else had a beard. I had shaved mine for the job interview and after a few months my new colleagues noticed that I had a beard in all my family and personal pictures. They encouraged me to grow it back and it has stayed there ever since except for a week each July while I regrow. Now about 25% of my coworkers rock a beard year round.

I would definitely not hunt minus undies and socks no matter how much weight it saved. I have tried and it did not end well . . .

First Time Coues Hunter - Help

Thanks for the tip, I would be pretty upset if I drove all the way down there and spent my day looking for a way in. So, excuse my ignorance, but how do you contact the wildlife manager down there? Do I just call the G&F department and ask? Yup.
  25. I have some friends in Joe City and Holbrook. His name on here is Badlands Custom Taxidermy. Give him a shout.
