    Remington AR-15

Here is the one I used. It will allow you to move the scope forward if needed, and add more options down the road. I used Warne rings for the scope. David http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=151&parents=38,42
  2. Opening morning of my wt hunt found me playing cat and mouse with a buck. About ten in the morning he finally lost me in a deep ravine. He wasn't a buck I wanted to shoot, so I thought I would do a little calling in the area since I had been seeing a ton of fox scat on the ridges. I hadn't hit my call twice and a fox came out of the bottom at 300 yards. I stopped calling and let in come in. When it popped up at 100 yards, I dropped her in her tracks. There was quite a bit of pelt damage due to the .243 light magnums, but I skinned her and plan on making her into a decoy for coyote hunting. I shot the male last year within two hundred yards of this one. David

    Draw results out

I got an archery pig tag for the big unit and my first turkey tag in 5a. My son also got his first rifle javelina tag for 20c. I am so excited about taking him for his first big game hunt. David

    Long Range Shooting

I tried some Hornady light magnum 85 grain Interbonds last week in my TC .243. I sighted it in at 100 yards dead on early in the week, and then went out to the desert to stretch it out a bit. I set up targets at 200, 300, and 400 yards. I am using a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 scope with bullet drop reticle. I held dead center at 200 and was just outside the center. I then used the next circle in my scope for 300 and hit it about two inches low. I went to the next circle for the 400 mark and hit it two inches to the left, but dead center. All of these were one shot each without any shooting time before hand. I would have to say that these Hornady light mag loads are very accurate to say the least. Not bad for just picking them up off the shelf. These bullets might save you a little reloading time if you are in a hurry. David

    white tank bucks

Boy Jimmy, that picture was back in the day when you weren't eating all of them vittles. I used to hunt pigs on the northwest end, but to many guys got to riding there quads up in there and spooking the herds. David

    badgers

I would like to and call a badger in this coming weekend, but I have never seen one while I was out hunting. I have heard there is a good population west of Wickenburg but I haven't had the chance to get over there yet. I have read to look for large dirt mounds, but again I haven't seen anything like this before. Does anybody know any good areas to start checking? David

    Final Debate

Guys, We really need to talk to all of our friends and people we meet to get the word out to vote for McCain. While speaking with a gentlemen the other day, he stated he wants McCain to win, but didn't plan to vote since he thinks he doesn't have a chance against the "better speaker". We are going to loose alot of our gun rights and I am sure a ton of money if B. wins this election. Based on what I have read and seen on TV, it looks as if the black community plans to vote for him no matter what he brings to the table. Just the other day I saw a black gentlemen on TV that was stating the negative issues with Barack and he got a ton of backlash from the black community, even calling him an "uncle tom". I certainly hope this election doesn't come down to the color of the candidates skin. David

New in box Remington SPS .243

I recently won this gun in a raffle, but I already own a couple guns in this caliber and I am a lefty. It is brand new in the box Remington SPS Buckmasters Edition chambered in .243. It has the camo stock and matte black finish on the barrel. It also comes with the X-Mark pro trigger. Here is a link with more info on the gun. $450.00 David http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...Buckmasters.asp

Been out having some elk fun! pic's!

Lance, Tell the boys congrats on the elk. I bet you felt really proud when they made great shots. My boy turned ten recently and I can't wait for pig season for him. Can you also tells us a little about the little bulls you posted? David

    Coues Whisperer

Catclaw, Thanks for the uplifting reply. I am glad you find my weapon so appealing. I always try to please everybody but myself. You are more than welcome to shoot it, without ear plugs of course to see if it will work for you. I probably could have found a longer barrel in a factory configuration, but where is the fun in that. I will work on this gun until it rags holes like my other rifles. Casey, It was starting to heat up in towards the end of my shooting. I was mostly just breaking the barrel in, but also wanted to see how it would shoot. David
  15. I acquired this TC Encore ealier in the year on a trade. It came with several barrels, and one of them was a 15 inch pistol barrel chambered in 7mm-08. I thought this would make a great caliber for my son who just turned ten. So I decided to build a lightweight rifle that would be great for hiking long distances. I took the barrel to Magnum Precision Gunsmithing and had him add one of his custom muzzlebrakes to help with recoil, and make the barrel the legal 16.25 inch length for a rifle. He also recrowns the barrel during the installation. I then added the new ProHunter FlexTech stock and forearm. I had the smith drill and tap the barrel so I could use a rifle length forearm. The stock is supposed to help reduce felt recoil by 43%. I figured the this stock and muzzlebreak it should be a low recoil rifle. I checked the trigger and it breaks clean at 3.8 pounds, so I didn't mess with it at all. I used a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 Mil-dot scope mounted with Talley one piece base. I figured since Casey and Jimmy can add engraving to there guns, then I should have the same pleasure. This is laser engraved, so hopefully it will hold up for a while. I am heading out next week to shoot it and see how it does with some Federal premuim 140 grain nosler ballistic tips. I know I will lose some velocity with the shorter barrel, but it will have less vibration than the longer barrels. I will most likely end up using this gun during my November WT hunt if its a shooter. Final weight with scope came in at 6.8 pounds. David

A few finds this past weekend

While you fellas and gals were out shooting toads, I got bored sitting in my stand so I got out and did a little walking. I hiked a couple miles back to a canyon to try glassing up a bear or coues. I found the shed in some thick hardwoods, but couldn't find the other side. The skull was about a quarter mile south of a pond. It still had ants working it over. I think it is from a muley, but I am not for sure. David

    Coues Whisperer

It was about an inch in a half towards the end, and then the barrel started getting hot and giving me some stringers. I also think the forearm was making a little contact on the right side of the barrel and frame. These TC's can be finicky until you get them figured out. David

    Coues Whisperer

I had a chance to go out to Ben Avery yesterday and break in the barrel a little. On the very first shot, I managed to blow a 44oz. drink off of the table from the muzzle blast. It was sitting about a foot to the left of the gun. I will be wearing some hearing protection for sure during my coues hunt when I take a shot. I still need to do a little more work on the inside of the forearm to tighten up the grouping. David
  19. I just wanted to give a great report for Timney triggers. I recently built an AR with the drop in skeletonized trigger. On my first outing I noticed it had just a bit of creep in the trigger. I sent an email to them last Wednsday about getting the trigger serviced. I had an email back within ten minutes. They told me to send it back so they could take a look at it. I informed them I was in north Phx and asked if I could just come down to there facility. I got a reply back telling me to come on down. I set an appointment for the next morning. I brought my entire gun with me and Jay broke it down for me, pulled out the old trigger and installed a brand new one in a couple minutes. Now that my friends is great customer service. They will get my business for all my trigger needs from now on. David

    Kachina Non-typical hits the dirt...

Darren, Congrats to your buddy on the great bull. Those bulls are so hard to hunt and very smart. Is this the same bull that we were talking about last year? The vegetation looks to be the same where I hunted for him. Have you guys tried putting a tape on him for a final score? David

Factory ammo puts this caliber right at 2800 fps, so I figured this rifle will shoot close to 2300-2400fps. I plan on trying the Federal ammo first, but will also try the factory Hornady light magnum loads which add about 200 fps over regular loads. If that doesn't work for me than I will work up some loads using the new Reloader 17 powder, which has gotten very good reviews so far. David http://www.6mmbr.com/reloder17.html
  22. I have owned three Browning Stainless stalkers with the Boss, and everyone of them have been tack drivers. Plus if you are a lefty, they have quite a few calibers to choose from. I have also read good things about some of the Savages and Tikka's. I have learned alot lately on this website by just reading through some of the articles and forums. Nikon Buckmaster BDC

I have the Monarch BDC on the top of my AR and was shooting an 8in rock at 350 yards on Sunday with no problem. Like the other poster mentioned, you just need to shoot your gun at the range to find out where it shoots. There are only a couple differences between the Monarch and Buckmaster. The Buckmaster has 92% light transmission compared to 95 witht he Monarch. You will not have the longer 4 inch eye relief that comes on the newer Monarchs either. But the Buckmaster is still waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof just like the Monarch. The best part is they both carry the no-fault warranty. David

    Horseshoe area

Has anybody been out near the Horseshoe Lake area varmint hunting? I was thinking about running out there this weekend and do some calling on the way there and back behind the lake. Its been quite a while since I was last there and I don't know how the fire has affected the area. David
