A true old school coues hunter
azhuntnut replied to longshooter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I love those old pics. I started with a 300 Savage that was stupid accurate. My father sold it at a carport sales years ago for a couple hundred bucks not knowing what he had. David -
Just as the title says. I bought a set of these years ago and only had the chance to use the rears. They came off of a 2005 sportsman and have no miles on them. I have had the tires and wheels stored in my garage since I bought them. They are 25x10-12. $100.00 or trade for ?. David '

If I was heading up to my place, I would drop it off for you. Plus, you didn't show me the secret CW tattoo. David

I hesitated purchasing this bad boy about six months ago, but after the recent elections I decided it was time to take the plunge. It is a FNH Five-seveN that included three 20 round magazines. For those not familier with this firearm, it is a 5.7x28mm. I will be using the 40 grain vmax in mine. It comes out of the barrel around 1750fps does very well on animals and the two legged type. Empty, the gun only weighs 19.0 oz empty. I have included a picture of ballistic gel to show the fragmentation of the bullet. This sucker is going to be fun. David

Mike, I felt the same way about the black guns until I started doing a little more research on them. When I thought there might be a chance that Hillary was going to make it into office, I decided to build an AR for varmint hunting. With the prices people are asking for them now, I am glad I got one. I use a five round magazine in it and it has become my goto gun for varmints. It is super accurate and has a fast follow up shot if I need it. I plan on using the Five seveN as my CCW firearm and close quarters varmint hunting. David

You need to head back out to the range and shoot at several ranges to find out where your bullet is hitting. My .243 will also shoot dead on at 100 and 200 using Hornady light mag 85 grains bullets. I use the first circle for my 300 range. I went out and set up targets using paper plate out to 400 yards and would put the circle right on the plates. Now with my .223 and have to hold in between one of the circles for accuracy. Just spend a little time behind the scope and you will know what circle to use. I currently own five of these scopes and would never trade for another. They are very clear and easy to use. I also have a Nkon with the mil-dot reticle that works very well. If you need anymore help, I shoot out at Ben Avery a couple times a month and could help you. David Now for the black powder comment. Nikon builds a scope that is made just for a black powder gun using a detailed load that hits dead on with the circles.

I glassed up this shed while deer hunting last weekend. It was to far to walk to get it, and I didn't want to disturb the area in case there were some big boys hanging around. I had the wrong camera with me, so I couldn't attach it to my digiscoping mount to get a clear picture. David

I got a picture also of the same buck in a different setting. It said it came from Animas NM. David

I have one in a .50 black powder, .243, and 7mm-08. I just recently took the .243 out to stretch it out a bit. I had no problems shooting it out to 400 yards with little recoil, and great accuracy. I like this set up since I am a left, and then my boy can use it when he gets a little older. My next barrel will be a 22-250. Check out a website called graybeard outdoors. Scroll down a bit and you can read a ton about encores. David

Tyson, Any other time I probably would have walked down into the canyon to retrieve it, but this year my knee's were giving me alot of trouble during my deer hunt. I think I am finally starting to feel all of my injury's from my younger years. Here is another pic that is a little blurry. I don't know if it was a huge antler, but someday I will head back into there again. There was a huge grove of mesquite trees about 100 away that I am sure holds a ton of WT and elk sheds, plus the trees were just below a water tank. David

Here is the one I used. It will allow you to move the scope forward if needed, and add more options down the road. I used Warne rings for the scope. David http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=151&parents=38,42

Opening morning of my wt hunt found me playing cat and mouse with a buck. About ten in the morning he finally lost me in a deep ravine. He wasn't a buck I wanted to shoot, so I thought I would do a little calling in the area since I had been seeing a ton of fox scat on the ridges. I hadn't hit my call twice and a fox came out of the bottom at 300 yards. I stopped calling and let in come in. When it popped up at 100 yards, I dropped her in her tracks. There was quite a bit of pelt damage due to the .243 light magnums, but I skinned her and plan on making her into a decoy for coyote hunting. I shot the male last year within two hundred yards of this one. David

I got an archery pig tag for the big unit and my first turkey tag in 5a. My son also got his first rifle javelina tag for 20c. I am so excited about taking him for his first big game hunt. David

I tried some Hornady light magnum 85 grain Interbonds last week in my TC .243. I sighted it in at 100 yards dead on early in the week, and then went out to the desert to stretch it out a bit. I set up targets at 200, 300, and 400 yards. I am using a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 scope with bullet drop reticle. I held dead center at 200 and was just outside the center. I then used the next circle in my scope for 300 and hit it about two inches low. I went to the next circle for the 400 mark and hit it two inches to the left, but dead center. All of these were one shot each without any shooting time before hand. I would have to say that these Hornady light mag loads are very accurate to say the least. Not bad for just picking them up off the shelf. These bullets might save you a little reloading time if you are in a hurry. David

Boy Jimmy, that picture was back in the day when you weren't eating all of them vittles. I used to hunt pigs on the northwest end, but to many guys got to riding there quads up in there and spooking the herds. David

I would like to and call a badger in this coming weekend, but I have never seen one while I was out hunting. I have heard there is a good population west of Wickenburg but I haven't had the chance to get over there yet. I have read to look for large dirt mounds, but again I haven't seen anything like this before. Does anybody know any good areas to start checking? David

Guys, We really need to talk to all of our friends and people we meet to get the word out to vote for McCain. While speaking with a gentlemen the other day, he stated he wants McCain to win, but didn't plan to vote since he thinks he doesn't have a chance against the "better speaker". We are going to loose alot of our gun rights and I am sure a ton of money if B. wins this election. Based on what I have read and seen on TV, it looks as if the black community plans to vote for him no matter what he brings to the table. Just the other day I saw a black gentlemen on TV that was stating the negative issues with Barack and he got a ton of backlash from the black community, even calling him an "uncle tom". I certainly hope this election doesn't come down to the color of the candidates skin. David

I recently won this gun in a raffle, but I already own a couple guns in this caliber and I am a lefty. It is brand new in the box Remington SPS Buckmasters Edition chambered in .243. It has the camo stock and matte black finish on the barrel. It also comes with the X-Mark pro trigger. Here is a link with more info on the gun. $450.00 David http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...Buckmasters.asp

Thanks for the tips on locations. I am going to head out in the morning to try and find one, or something to shoot. David

Lance, Tell the boys congrats on the elk. I bet you felt really proud when they made great shots. My boy turned ten recently and I can't wait for pig season for him. Can you also tells us a little about the little bulls you posted? David

Those pictures alone are very impressive. I have never been able to find a toad like that yet, but I keep working on it. Please post some more pics of your collection. David

Catclaw, Thanks for the uplifting reply. I am glad you find my weapon so appealing. I always try to please everybody but myself. You are more than welcome to shoot it, without ear plugs of course to see if it will work for you. I probably could have found a longer barrel in a factory configuration, but where is the fun in that. I will work on this gun until it rags holes like my other rifles. Casey, It was starting to heat up in towards the end of my shooting. I was mostly just breaking the barrel in, but also wanted to see how it would shoot. David
