    muley with potential

Magnum, I think that is a speck of dust in the air. That happens to us alot in that area. You can see in this pic that another deer must have walked by before him and kicked up the dust. David

    muley with potential

This guy has the potential to be a really nice buck down the road. David
  3. I have gotten rid of my big bores in favor of shooting smaller caliber guns that are plenty for putting down a Coues deer. I prefer the .243 caliber using the Hornady light magnum 85 grain interbonds. I wouldn't mind picking up a 25-06 since it has great ballistics and only has about 11 pounds of recoil energy using a 100 bullet. David

    Customizing a T/C Encore

I think the pins are about $30 bucks. I have heard that sometimes it works, that is why I found my own. You do not have to drill out the hole. The new pin is only thousands bigger in size. I had my machinist take the measurements for me. One of my frames has a trigger job from Van Horn and it feels great. The other breaks clean at 3.7 pounds which I think is good for hunting. David

    Customizing a T/C Encore

I have done some work to mine that has made it a very accurate rifle. One of the first things you can do is take off the forearm and sand it down so it will not be touching the frame on either side, plus I sand mine a bit where the barrel might come in contact with it. Then I changed out my frame pin. Now you can buy these online for big bucks, but I found some hardened steel dowel pins that were less than a dollar that were just a tad larger than my original pin. Now it is a very tight lock-up. You can also have a trigger job done by a guy here in town by the last name of Van Horn, if it is already not good enough. He is the TC pro. Just doing the first two modifications will help your accuracy. David

    cam choice

We have been using the Moultrie Gamespy I45 with the wireless GPS modem for a couple months now. It has saved us alot of trips out to check cameras, as well as leaving the area alone. It uses the AT&T cell service. I would recommend getting the solar panel or it will eat your batteries quickly. Here is a recent pic of some bucks using this camera. David

    Tires?

I had some of the new Duratracs on my Duramax for about 6k, but started to notice that they were getting hard to balance. Discount replaced two of them thinking the tires were bad. It did not fix the problem, so I decided to mark the tire with a grease pen and found out that the tire was actually rotating on the rim a little bit each time I accelerated. I really liked the tire and would have loved to keep it, but I couldn't stand the vibration on the highway. Goodyear tires have a little softer compound than other tires, which causes them to grip better on pavement. I had the same problem with there wranglers back in 2002 on one of my other trucks. If you have a high torque and heavy truck I would say pass on these tires. Discount ended up putting a set of BFG's on my truck and the problem went away completely. There not as good offroad, but get the job done. I have had at least 8 different types of tires (mud&AT's) (BFG/Toyo/Procomp/Goodyear)on my trucks in the last 7 years and found that the BFG AT's seem to hold up the best for me. They have to hold up to heavy towing, lots of highway, and offroad use. I would recommend the Duratracs over the BFG's if your truck is not a diesel. Which ever tire you buy, get the road hazard warranty. I already had to use it on a tire that only had 6k on it. David

Found this a couple weeks ago while stopping through the thick stuff. He looks like he would have been about 29-30 inches wide. David

    Spring Draw IS out

Archery pig 10-44 units. I forgot to put my hunt numbers on my turkey application. I plan on taking my boy out anyways for his first turkey hunt. Best of all, my boy drew a 20c junior pig tag. It will be his first big game hunt. I hope the pig hunting is still good in there. David

    muley/bobcat

We have been trying to get a pic of a couple good bucks lately, so I put out some Trophy Blend Scent zip tied to a stick in the background. As you can see, it worked very well. These pictures were taken within the last three days. I am hoping this big boy shows himself within the next couple days. We are using the Moultrie Game Spy I45. Dates and time on camera are wrong. First Bobcat Of The Year

Josh, I have noticed a bunch of cats out this past weekend. I wonder if it has anything to do with the moon phase. We saw six cats in three days while muley hunting. Good job on the cats. David

    Guy on Bike

I remember when I used to bunny hop the metal garbage cans back when I was a youngster. Of course my boys don't believe me, or even think that dad could even ride a bike. I have lots of scars and broken bones to show for it. David

    bobcat

I was out yesterday doin some scouting for muleys, plus calling for dogs. When it started to get hot I decided to hit a pond that held a bunch of bluegill. I was walking to the back of my truck to add some bait when I saw something run through the brush. I decided to grab my gun and walk the edge hoping maybe I could get a shot at what I saw. I noticed some movement up ahead of me about 100 yards and glassed up a bobcat. I mouth sqeaked and got him to turn around for a shot. I stopped him with one shot from my AR using 68 grain hollow points. The coat was in great shape, so I am having a full mount done. David

    Trade- TC Encore barrel 300wm

I have an Encore stainless steel 300 win mag barrel with a Dave Van Horn muzzle brake installed on it. I took this barrel in trade and have not shot it. I was told it has very few rounds down the tube. I am looking to trade for an Encore stainless muzzleloader barrel in .50 cal, plus the a synthetic forearm. I will be out of town this weekend, so be patient if I don't reply quickly. David http://mygunroom.com/dvgunshop/

    Frustrated with groups

I have been doing alot of research on muzzleloaders lately to get ready for my muley hunt in December. I found this website that sells videos that show you how to make your gun shoot better, etc. I think I am going to order a couple this week and see what they can do for me. 24. Great pics Dan. If you can find me a lion like the one in the pic, I will head back over again for some hunting. David

    mange coyote

Spotted this guy and his buddy in an open area. I set up my son for a shot, while I worked my way around them. I was hoping they would spot me and push towards him. When they finally started his way, I didn't see him sitting in his spot anymore. He got impatient and was coming up behind me. When one of the coyotes sat down a little over 350 yards; I popped him. The other one came out behind a small hill at 397 yards. My first warning shot was just over his back, but the second dropped him. We walked back to the truck and drove over to them. When we pulled up my son noticed one was still moving a bit and finished him off for me. Both of them had the mange pretty bad. David The other coyote is just over the hill in the background.
