    New to muzzleloading

I agree with Casey on the Buckhorn 209 and Barnes bullets. I really got into muzzle loading last year when I drew the December tag. I probably shot 50 rounds through my gun before the hunt started. One thing you might try is to find the charge that your gun likes and then weigh each one for your upcoming hunt. I found some small plastic bolt containers at Harbor Frieght that worked great for holding each charge. One other item I found to really help me was the SpinJag. This made seating the bullet much easier and helped with accuracy. Make sure you get the starter as well. I even lapped the barrel on my rifle and then heated it up in my barbecue and coated the inside of the barrel with a teflon based lube and let it cool on its own. This helped with seating the bullet and also increased my muzzle velocity. My gun is the Encore, but take some time and fool around with yours until it is accurate for you. I was shooting aluminum cans with mine last year at 200 yards and could easily put it into a 4in circle at 300 yards. Hope this helps you out. David http://www.spinjag.com/index.php

    Tripod adapter

The one that Bass Pro has made for them is made out of plastic, not aluminum like the one with the Nikon name. Remember, you get what you pay for in the end. David

    Tripod adapter

Bass Pro carries one made by Nikon. It is one of the better ones made out of aluminum and I think it is $24.99. David

    Couple old lever action Marlins

The .44 has found a new home. David
  5. I bought 3 lever action rifles a while back in order to get the one I really wanted. I don't think I will be shootin these in the near future. Both rifles have not been shot in over 25 years and stored correctly. The first one is a Marlin 1895 chambered in 45/70 govt. It was built in 1971 and released in 72. It has a first year built B Zero serial number and is only a four digit number. One of the special items about this gun is that it has the "Ballard" rifling and a Douglas barrel. The rifling is much better for guys who like to reload with the cast bullets. They only used these barrels on a limited amount of guns in the first year. I would rate this gun at 98%, and I am not for sure if it has even been shot. $700.00 I don't think there is anything I want to trade for at this time. The next gun is a Marlin 1894 Saddlering chambered in .44 magnum. This saddlering gun was only built between 69-72. The serial number shows it to be built in 1972. Again this rifle has not been fired in over 25 years and stored the same way. The is micro-grooved and has very few rounds down the tube. Very nice gun that is close to 98%. $600.00 David Here is the gun I had to have. I got it for my boys and I think they are going to have a blast with it. The action is the smoothest I have ever felt on a lever action. It is an Ithaca model 72 Saddlegun .22lr with the original box. It has been fired, but very little. These are a little rare and the first I have seen.

    My new gun

That gun is similar to the Rem 700 SPS Tactical I recently got. It is a very good shooter when I do my part. It seems to like 150's better than the 168's. David http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...s-tactical.aspx

    Ideal camo

I have been using Predator camo since 1996 with great success. You can use it in any type of terrain up close or at a distance. Check out this video from my elk hunt. At the end of the video you can see that the bull doesn't see me or my camera man. David

    Couple big muleys

We had a pretty good year. Tim Herald, the host of THE ZONE and Nosler's Magnum TV came out to hunt with us, along with a good friend of his to film a trophy mule hunt. It was really hot this year and the big bucks were not moving much, and staying in the thick cover. The first few days were uneventful, except for a few small bucks. On the third morning of the hunt, his friend Mark was able to shoot this nice muley at 375 yards. The buck ended up measureing 30.5 inches wide and double eyegaurds on the left side. After getting Marks buck taken care of, Tim arrived from the airport and we took him for a quick tour of our place. That evening we hunted, but did not see anything worth shooting. The next morning started off slow and we only spotted a javelina. After lunch we headed out to check out another area, but got a call from Ben, my partner telling us about a buck one of his guys thought he saw hanging out in some tall cover where they were working. We got over there and got set up. In the past we have had great success hunting coyotes near the fields when they are being cut, so I thought that this deer might act the same. I have never hunted deer like this in the past, but I figured it was worth hanging out to get a look at the buck since is was the middle of the afternoon and nothing else was going on. After a while we finally noticed the buck running away from us right down the edge of the Sorghum, but then unexpectedly turned and started running right towards us. The only problem was that Tim was blocked by a huge tumble weed bush and couldn't see the buck running towards us. The buck finally run out from behind the bush and Tim shot him at only 70 yards. We were extremely lucky to get this buck. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. The buck grossed scored just over 190 inches, with a ton of mass. I spent most of my muzzy season last year trying to shoot this buck, but he always gave me the slip. Both of these bucks were taken on private property that is strictly enforced. I know some of the members here disagree with hunting on private property, or agriculture areas. Please don't turn this thread into a negative one. I am sure most hunters would have a hard time passing up these trophy bucks no matter where they were hunting. Please show some respect for these great trophy bucks. David

    Loc Jaw and Rifle Railz

Here is a link with pics that show the bottom of the stock with just the rail mounted to it. Its hard to build a product that will fit into every categorie, and at the same time satisfy every customer. David http://s863.photobucket.com/albums/ab195/A...nt=1f022815.pbw

    Loc Jaw and Rifle Railz

It is the same one. The LOC JAW was first made to work on the AR's with the 1913 Picatinny rail, and then we built our own rail system for the bolt action rifles to allow the LOC JAW to slide onto it. David

    Loc Jaw and Rifle Railz

Jimmy, Thank you for a great write up on Rifle Railz/LOC JAW shooting system. You did a great fine job in showing its uses and how well it works, even for beginners. The videos are absolutely incredible and they make you feel like you were the one behind the rifle. I will be making some videos shortly that will explain in detail just how easy it is to mount the system onto your rifle, as well as some long range metal target shots. If anybody has any additional questions about the system, feel free to ask. I hope to have a website up soon that should cover most questions, but until it is finished, I will answer them here. Amanda already carries the LOC JAW, and will be adding the Rifle Railz to the site soon. We sold the first run of Rifle Railz so quickly that I wasn't ready for the flood of customers wanting to purchase more. We should have some more available within the next couple weeks and Amanda will be the first to get her order. If you would like to purchase one right now, The Outdoorsmans, a sponsor here, is carrying them at there store. Thank you for the interest in the Rifle Railz/LOC JAW shooting system. David

Best Offroad/ Hyway tires for Coues Country

Last year I bought some tires made by Goodyear that were a cross between an all terrain and mud. The center part of the tire was an all terrain tread and the inner and outer were mud terrain. They were great on and off road. They even did well in the mud. But after a while I noticed that I couldn't keep them balanced. I remembered that I had ran goodyears in the past and found they had a soft rubber and would get so much grip on the road that they would actually spin on the rims. So I marked a couple of the rear tires and found that was exactly the problem. I was running these on a 3/4 ton duramax and I think the torque was my issue. Discount switched them out for me to BFG AT's which work fine, but they chip really bad on gravel roads. I know two guys running the KM 2's and they love them and are wearing very well so far. David

    Loc Jaw / Rifle Railz

I don't know if I can add much more, but I will try to give a little more detail on my newest product. Like they said, it is a rail system that bolts onto the bottom of the rifle using existing manufacturer holes. I include a new longer bolt for one end and the other is secured using the swivel stud. The Rifle Railz is adjustable to fit short and long action rifles, and adjustable to fit actions that fit flush to the stock and just above the stock. I also put a 2 inch radius on the bottom for better fitment on most stocks. Once you install the rail system, then you slide my LOC JAW onto it and tighten down the 3 bolts. This system was engineered to be left on your rifle and look like it was a factory built part. It is very easy to install and so far we have found it to work very well and not change the way your gun shoots. I hope to get some video footage this week and some up close pictures to show the detail in the product. Jimmy will also have some more video from this weeks deer hunts, and I have a couple guys using some this week on a prairie dog hunt. My son used this set up on Saturday to shoot his deer at 268 yards. It was the 4th time he had shot my .308. I really like how it helps the kids swivel the gun quickly and keep the gun level and on target. Both products are made out of 6061 t-6 aluminum and hard anodized exceeding military specifications and laser engraved. I include all hardware and allen wrenches needed to install the products so you aren't digging through your toolbox for 30 minutes trying to find one. I will also be making a video showing how to install both and putting it on youtube. It so easy to install that a caveman could do it. I don't have a website yet, but hopefully soon. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. David

    junior buck

Myself and my boy drew unit 41 tags this year, but I decided to donate mine to Outdoor Experience 4 All and let another kid try to take a buck, and spend the hunt helping my son Austin get his. The boy that got the tag got sick on Friday and was not able to hunt with us. We got out early Friday morning, but the deer were able to give us the slip. My son noticed a trail being used down a treeline and we decided to give chase. We found where they were heading to bed in the mornings and feed in the evenings. We set up that night, but some other hunters spooked the deer and they just stayed in the brush until dark. This morning we set up where they would break out of the treeline for a bit before they got into the heavier brush, but they didn't show up like usual. I decided to move up a little closer to the treeline to check and see if they were held up. I then noticed some other hunters about 400 yards ahead of us and they had spooked the herd. It was hard to see much since we were on the flats, but I managed to glass up some deer angling away from us and decided to try and cut them off. We had to run about a half mile through the flats into the rolling desert, but I picked them back up again and they were going to cross in front of us about 250 yards out. There were a ton of does and fawns in the group, but hardly any bucks. Right when I thought the herd was gone, 2 bucks stopped broadside and I told him to use the first circle on the Nikon BDC scope and aim a bit high. He hit the buck back a bit and knocked him down, but he got up and held tight behind some trees. About five minuted went by when I found the buck about 20 yards to the left. My boy found him in the scope and made the slight downhill 270 yard shot and caught the top of both lungs. Five days ago I witnessed another hunter shoot a 190 inch muley and was pretty excited, but this experience was unbelievable to say the least. This was his first deer and he was very happy with his buck, and I was extremely proud to be right there when he walked up to it. You can see in the pics that he was using my new Rifle Railz/LOC JAW shooting system that allows you to mount your bolt action rifle securely to a tripod, while the system stays attached to your rifle until you are ready to shoot. I think this made it much easier for him to make the long shot and stay steady on the buck. Plus, when he wasn't able to find the buck in the scope, shooting system allowed me to swivel the gun to the area and he was then able to pick up the buck and swivel gun into the correct position. The gun is a Remington 700 sps tactical .308 with a Nikon BDC scope. I was trying some new Winchester Power Max bonded 150 grain PHP ammo that performed flawlessly. I would highly recommend this ammo for any big game. I have some pics of the wound channel as well as entry and exit holes if anybody is interested. David One happy little boy. I think I was more excited than him.

    junior buck

I showed my son all of your comments and it put a big smile on his face. He is so happy with this buck and appreciates your congrats. David
  20. I got a new Nikon M223 rifle scope yesterday and got it mounted up and went out this morning to get it sighted in. Only took about 12 shots and I had my AR dialed in. I like the fine crosshair and how the ballistic chart is set up for every fifty yards. It also comes with the Anti Reflective Device that threads onto the end of the scope. Nikon also offers an M223 scope mount with 20MOA built into it, so I used it also. My plan is to take it out and stretch it out a bit to see how well the ballistic chart works. I am using Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 55 grain bullets. Nikon told me this is the ammo they used when they were building the scope. They shot very well even though there was a 20 mile and hour crosswind. David Here are the specs on the scope. http://www.nikonhunting.com/

    Tripod adapter for rifle

I have a new product I just finished this week that I am calling Rifle Railz. It is going to allow a person to mount there rifle directly to there tripod. It is low profile and stays attached to the gun and looks like it was put on at the factory. The LOC JAW that was made to mount on a Picatinny rail will slide right onto the Rifle Railz and lock onto the tripod. Together they weigh around 5 ounces. I have the parts at my anodizer as I write this and will have pics by Friday. My first run will work on Remington rifles, but I am in the process of getting them ready for most other rifle manufactures. If you want to get a closer look at it, come down to the gun show at the Cardinals stadium and see how well it works. I have included a pic of the LOC JAW attached to a Picatinny rail. It will serve the same function on the Rifle Railz, but on a bolt action rifle. The LOC JAW can be purchased right here from Amanda(coueswhitetail). David
  23. Great buck Dan. Have you guys put a tape on him yet? I don't think I have ever seen a big bucks up on top. I figured all the bears ate them. David

    Video-Nikon m-223

I finally got around to making some metal targets, so I headed out this weekend to stretch the Nikon m-223 rifle scope. With my AR mounted up on my LOC JAW tripod attachment, it actually made shooting quite easy. I think if I had a 20 inch barrel I could get to the 500 and 600 with ease. The velocity starts to drop off after 400 pretty quick. When I was finished shooting, my 12 year old boy jumped behind the gun and shot 1,2, and 300 yards like he had been doing it for years. Having the gun mounted on a tripod has made my accuracy as well as his go up quite a bit. My next video will be shooting with a Remington .308 rifle with my new RIFLE RAILZ system. David

    coyote freebie

I was out Saturday checking out a ranch for some future hunting around ten in the morning when I spotted this youngin about 200 yards out. I was able to pull my truck in behind a dike and sneak to the top. She spotted me sit down and started to walk away, but I gave her a bark and stopped her broadside. One 55 grain Win silvertip stopped her in her tracks. There was very little pelt damage, so I ripped the bridges off of her and plan to get the skin tanned. David
