Steve, All I know is that I wasn't using the same type you were (swaro) on the first morning of our Texas hunt. You know how that turned out. Lol. David

I haven't been back in there since those hunts. I do know there are bears in there since I found old sign. I just think that game and fish end the season to early before the bears really start moving. If you look at the stats, not many bears have been taken during that time. It is a good money maker for them though. I would try to work the south side of the ranges when you are glassing, and hike some of the trails up into the drainages where the faces have some grass. 2012 MULE DEER SEASON! 16 BUCKS! +More!
azhuntnut replied to Lance's topic in Timberland Outfitters Blog
Only 16 bucks, geez. Looks like Ty is ready to leave the nest. I will be borrowing him from you this elk season. You guys did a great job and congrats to all. David -
I have had the unit 31 tag in the spring 2 times in a row. I spent a combined 30 days on both hunts and never found any fresh sign or saw a bear. I did some major hiking within the unit on both sides of the Pinalena Mountains. There are lots of old mine shafts behind Fort Grant, but it is a long hike back in there. Plus it is so thick back there that it makes it hard to glass. I don't think you are allowed to drive in there anymore. David

Do we have anybody on here that does tempered glass shower installations, or know somebody that does it? I need some bids for the install on some fairly large pieces of glass. I am in the nw valley. David

Do the tripods also have the plate to mount binos? David

Or you could buy a Duramax and pull the Dodge and trailer. Heeheehee. Back to the top. David

That's a great deal. I would scoop that up if I didn't already have a car hauler. If you put it on Craigslist it would be gone in no time. David

I have seen a bit of a review on the Les Baer and it seems like a great upper. Another one you might want to check out is a manufacturer named Dedicated Technologies. He builds custom uppers in most calipers and custom calipers. He uses Shilen barrels and has a custom muzzlebrake that is amazing. I have a 243wssm that shoots one hole all the time. He is usually a year out,but it is well worth the wait. David http://www.dtechuppers.com/index.html

At the Bowhunters Banquet this year, where my buddy Lance bought a hunt for two at a ranch in Texas. Lance was very gracious to invite me along on the hunt. We both invited a couple buddies to come along with us that made up a motley crew of guys. We headed out this past Sunday morning at 3am for a 15 hour drive. Monday morning was uneventful for me, but my buddy Gary smoked two Russian bore's. That evening I got into my stand and about 15 minutes later I had 7 Aoudad's, 1 Axis doe, and 3 Mouflan crossing in front of me. I picked out the biggest in the group and let him get a little past me for an angled shot. I hit him between the last two ribs quartering away and exited his far shoulder. He managed to run about 20 yards, and then lay down and expire within a minute of shot. I have included on pic from my treestand showing where my arrow layed (red circle) and you can see the Aoudad (red circle) on the other side of the trees. I am having him mounted in half body pose and plan on building the rocks for him to stand on. Thanks Lance, I had a great time. The following morning I managed to shoot two pigs, one being a compete pass through, but was unable to find either. I found out the hard way that these pigs need to be hit in the heart or they will run at full speed forever. We were told that they have skinned some in the past and found several broadheads within the animal. They are the toughest animal I have hunted. The other guys in my group ran into the same problems. Looks like the lions have shown up again this year. I have been able to find 4 different lion tracks within the last 2 weeks. One even has an injury that limits one of its pads from touching the ground very much when walking. We have also been out at night spotlighting hoping to find one wandering around. The deer population in this area has declined greatly. I put out 4 cameras this past weekend hoping to get some pics of this big boy. David

We have been using these lights lately, and they are super bright. The way the law is written, you can actually use a light connected to a vehicle until an animal is located. (Weapon must be cased and not easily accessible) Once located, you have to go to a hand held wireless unit and make an effort to pursue the animal. (With the vehicle shut off) That way it is not considered using your vehicle to pursue game. The mobile unit would work great for calling them in, but in my experience from last year, lions are not afraid of the lights, and you could get away with using a good handheld spotlight. At least the area we are hunting. If the law would have been in effect last year, I could have shot several in one weekend, one as close as 40 yards. I recently redesigned the LOC JAW so that it was a little shorter, lighter, and radiused the corners a little more for better comfort. It will now be offered in an OD Green to match some of the other parts currently offered for the AR platform. The Rifle Railz will also be offered in the new OD Green. Amanda has the new LOC JAW and colors in stock. David

I started using the Stinger in 2005 on an elk hunt. I shot my bull and he went about 40 yards. I shot another elk at 67 yards a couple years ago and had a full pass through. He didn't make it 10 yards. My antelope shot last year at 50 was also a pass through and tipped over at about 40 yards. I also have 7 javelina within those years. A cut on contact head with a chisel tip takes less kinetic energy to penetrate. David

Great job on a fine mountain lion. I believe lions are some of the toughest animals. I shot one last year with a .243 wssm and searched for it for over 6 hours and never did find it. You didn't get lucky finding your lion, you were prepared to Shoot one if he came walking by your stand. Congrats on a great lion. David

Call Jeff at Arizona Armory. He has his own uppers and lowers machined here in Az and can build you whatever you want at a great price. He built a left hand eject for me years ago and it shoots great. He even let me pick the parts I wanted and then ordered them for me. David http://azarmory.net/

I think the rut will be going pretty good by the 26th in 11m. If you have the second hunt, it will be a lot of fun this year. I watched a couple bulls fight Saturday morning twice and saw a few parallel each other for over a mile this morning. David

First I would like to give a huge congrats to Ryan and the Timberland team. In order to find a keep track of such a fine animal is a really hard job and takes a ton of time and work. Ryan you have shot a magnificent bull and should be very proud of your accomplishment. Now for the comment made by Shudhunteraz- Timberland Outfitters is a family business with a lot of great friends that work along side of them. They are always willing to help other hunters out, usually at no cost. If you showed up to one of the cwt get togethers at Marshall Lake, you would find out that they are a great family. David

I got these pics while I was out scouting. Check back again and I will post some great video. The pics just don't do this bull justice. He is a toad. David

That's a great bull. It's gonna be hard for dad to ever top that one. Congrats to all. David

I shot video of this bull in the middle of the day. It seemed kind of crazy since I was on five bulls that morning about 15 miles away and 500 foot less elevation and they didn't show any signs of the rutting. I think some of the younger cows in this herd came into estrus and got this bull fired up. I stayed with him for about two hours without ever being detected. When I got the video I was only wearing camo pants and a green tshirt standing right out in the open. Man I wish I had a tag in my pocket. David

The bulls were doing the same thing last year and the rut didn't start until the 28th of September. I had some bulls start bugling at 3am Saturday morning, so I got up and got within 100 yards by 4am. I sat and cow talked with them until daylight. They were spread out, but all within a 1/2 mle of eachother. As soon as the sun started to rise, all 5 bulls went quiet. Not once did they get aggressive or come towards me. I didn't hear one bugle this morning. All the water up north has the elk spread out. They can drink at every puddle in the road without even coming close to another bull. Plus it's still pretty warm. I am still wearing shorts in the morning up in Flag. I think somewhere between the 21st and 25th. David
