I have shot 2 bulls and 1 cow using Magnus Stingers. All of them have been complete pass throughs. One bull was at 68 yards and left perfect x marks through ribs on both sides. That bull only went about ten feet and dropped. My antelope a couple years ago was also a pass through at 50 yards. I watched a good friend of mine shoot a bull at 40 yards and his arrow went through both shoulder bones. It made a loud crack noise on impact. Recently my son used a Grave Digger expandable with a cut on contact head. He blew through a pig shooting a 35 pound bow. I think cut on contact heads are very important and allow the broadhead to penetrate bone much easier and retain kinetic energy. David

I finally got a chance to get my 15 year old son out for some pig hunting. We only had a couple days to get one down. We found a good group around 9 am, but took us over an hour to get within shooting distance. I had put him on a 20 yard limit. This one ended up only being about a 10 yard shot. His shot was a little back, but I could tell he got a little of the lung and liver on the opposite side. I waited an hour and went on the search. I found him about 30 yards away. I had him try a Gravedigger broadhead this year with the cut on contact head. I think those big blades helped us find that pig. He seemed kind of heavy, so I weighed him with a fish scale before we gutted him and it was 54 pounds. This was his first archery kill and its bigger than the prior 20 I have shot. David

I have had good luck using a peacock call. It is much loader than most calls, so it carries further. David

I bought a frame from a guy that said the trigger was done by Dave Van Horn. It is a really nice trigger. David http://dvhcustomguns.com/ -

Get an Axon Flex from Taser. They are built right into your glasses and recording is downloaded directly to a Cloud system. Alot of law enforcement are wearing them now. Its keeping officers and general public honest. There are some videos on youtube. Or Gopro would work good also. i have one and like it alot. Years ago I used a Cabelas credit card. No charges showed up on my card until 9 days after they initially started. I even called them one time and they stated there were no pending. There still might be hope for some lucky hunters. I have since gone back to my trusty money orders. Plus I prefer seeing the word "drawn" on the game and fish website instead of a charge on my account. David

I'm looking for some advice on paint. Gonna paint a place up north and want it to hold up in the rain and snow for a while. I have read Sherwin Williams has good paint, but would like to hear from the pro's so I can get he best. I used Dunn Edwards once before, but it wasn't long ago so I don't know how well it will hold up. David

I won a pair of binos at the bowhunters banquet. These are the Vortex 10x50 Viper HD's. It looks like they are normally selling for $650.00 plus tax or shipping, so I will sell these for $575.00. David

Jim White undergoing open heart surgery...please pray for him
azhuntnut replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Prayer Requests
I met Jim several years ago at the Shot Show in Vegas. We spoke for over an hour about products we were working on, and some ideas of future products we wanted to produce. It was great to speak with a guy who had been in the business for so long and hear what he had to say. I never did get the opportunity to work directly with Jim, but I can tell you he was a super nice guy. He made great products and I'm sure impacted alot of hunters indirectly. David -
Side by Side vs. Jeep/Suzuki Samurai/Trail rig
azhuntnut replied to MT. CAT's topic in Other Hunting Gear
"What kind of mileage do you get in the suzuki?" I run down to Gila Bend alot and get 21.5 per gallon running a 2in kit, 225x70 km2 tires, and all my hunting equipment in back. With the AC runnin. Up to Flagstaff I get about 19.5 per gallon. David -
Side by Side vs. Jeep/Suzuki Samurai/Trail rig
azhuntnut replied to MT. CAT's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I didn't like a few things about it. I made the springs so soft that it caused the rig to sway alot when offraod. It had a five speed, so I had to worry about shifting all the time and got tired of it. I had to trailer it everywhere since it wasn't built for the road. If I were to buy another one, I would leave the stock suspension and put on some mud tires. Mine was heavily modified running 33 in tires. My Vitara has never broke down or left me stranded. I use it for my guide service and put at least 3k a year just offraod. If it fits, I can take it where all the side x sides go and just as fast. i should know, since i had a polaris ranger before this one. I just recently got a tow bar for mine, so now I can pull it behind my truck, unhitch and go. Try to find a grand vitara with the v6 and front locker and auto trans and you will be set. Mine also has leather so its easy to clean up when you get the seats dirty. Side by Side vs. Jeep/Suzuki Samurai/Trail rig
azhuntnut replied to MT. CAT's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I started off with a samurai that I totally tricked out for offroad and ended up not liking it. I then bought a new ranger and completely enclosed it, and full cage, lift, tires and wheels, plus a bunch more. I eventually got tired of eating a bunch of dust and towing it everywhere. So 2-3 years ago I bought a suzuki grand vitara 4 door for $2500 bucks and put a small lift on it, as well as some km2s. It is by far the best hunting and offroad vehicle I have ever owned. I can drive it wherever im hunting with all my equipment in the back and back home with the ac running or the heat to keep me warm. Plus I stay nice and dry. It is a v6 auto with plenty of power and great fuel mileage. Mine is a 1999 and it came from the factory with a front air locker. One of the best things I like about it is how quiet it runs. I have driven right up on antelope, deer, elk, coyotes, and pigs without them ever knowing I was there. And it looks totally innocent, so I can park it anywhere and not get hassled by he anti's. All I need now is a hiking shack sticker in the back window and I would blend right in. David -
Springer spaniels
azhuntnut replied to Hunter Rath's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have a springer, but we don't use him for hunting. He is more of a family dog, but he acts really birdie. I also have a Brittany that I trained to hunt when I first got him, but I haven't taken him out and shot over him. I am really impressed with the vertical jump of my Springer. David -
Stainless Encore barrel, chambered in .300 Win mag with custom Dave Van Horn muzzlebrake. This will work for a left or right handed shooter. I doubt this barrel has 20 rounds down the barrel. $300 obo. David I can't get the image to post, but if you need a pic, send me your email and I will send it directly. But if you close your eyes and imagine a stainless steel encore barrel with a muzzlebrake, then you will have an idea of what it looks like.

My son was going through my safe the other day and pulled this barrel out. I thought I had sold it, but I guess I put it to the back of the safe. How about $250 to get it sold. David
