I bought the Salomon Quest boots a couple years ago and I am really impressed with them. They break in very fast and have all kinds of ankle support. I'm actually looking to buy another pair soon. You can find them at REI. David

I recently bought the new Kuiu Icon Pro 3200. I did a bunch of research before making my decision and I am very satisfied with my choice. The fitment of the pack is amazing and very comfortable. Based on there videos I watched on youtube, they made some improvements over there prior packs. Plenty of pockets and places to put lots of gear. There is also an internal belt system to control movement of larger gear inside the pack. It prevents shifting while you hike. The part I really like is the fact you can adjust the pack to your exact torso size. This has always been an issue for me with other packs. I also added some side pockets, and gun holder. I will add feedback when I pack out my first animal. David http://store.kuiu.com/product-p/62009.htm

Spot and stalk buck I shot in 2012. He scored 89 4/8's SCI. I had so much fun on this hunt. I can't wait until I draw another tag. David- 73 replies

This question comes up every year and there are always great suggestions on which broadhead to use. Based on my experience, I have had the opportunity to shoot 4 elk with a bow. I shot all of them using a cut on contact broadhead made by Magnus. It is the 100 grain Stinger with the bleeders. I like this type since there isn't a lot of kinetic energy lost during entry into the animal. Plus all of the blades are sharp on the backside. This helps to cause more internal damage in case the arrow stops inside. All of my shots were a complete pass through, even one at almost 70 yards. This year I drew another tag and I'm gonna try a new broadhead form them called The Black Hornet. It's a little shorter, but has a wider cutting diameter. Plus the blades have been made a little thicker. Just by chance if you manage to break one, they are covered under a lifetime warranty. Yes. The builder used real wood for the cabinets, plus it's a heavy duty frame. We put 5 gallon jugs of water under the bed area to reduce gouge weight. Plus there is a hitch on the back bumper if you want to add a slide in hitch carrier. David

I thought about wrapping it in camo, but I thought the HOA would frown on it. I left it out in the forest for almost 2 months and nobody ever bothered it. David

Did anybody here draw the 5a tag this year? David

I have been scouting for the last 3 weekends getting ready for the jr hunt and I found that a lot of the areas that had birds last year showed no sign this year. I'm not a turkey expert, but I think they migrate to different areas. I have 4 groups located and I'm hoping they cooperate for my son Friday morning. David

I did a bunch of research on several long range shooting sites and these brakes got very good reviews from everyone that bought one. I bought one recently for a rifle I'm building. The machining on the brake is very good. Plus you can't beat the price. Your smith can profile the brake to fit your barrel. David http://www.muzzlebrakesandmore.com/Ported_Muzzle_Brakes.php

My upper was built by Dtech. If you do order one, plan on waiting at least a year. Sometimes you can find somebody selling one on predator masters website. David

I shot a muley last year loaded with an 85 grain TSX at 345 yards. It looked like he was struck by lightning. Mine is on an AR platform and it has killed a bunch of animals including several pigs, bobcats, coyotes, 2 lions, and 3 deer. I never used anything over 87 grains. I loaded up on brass years ago and reload all my rounds. I probably have over 500 rounds down the barrel and it still shoots as good as day one. I'm runnin 3450 fps with 87 grain vmax, and 3500 with the 85 tsx. David

Falconry and rabbit fields

I used to go out with a game and fish officer that had a Harris. It was a blast. He eventually got two of them and they would work together. One would fly high and wait for the other to push rabbits. David -
Dog days of summer

My Brittany does the same thing. Makes me wonder how long he has been on point when I walk outside. He holds the lizards on point until my Springer notices him and then he jumps and tries to snatch them off the fence. Teamwork at its best. David -
I stopped by Bruno's on Friday and they had a fair amount of powder in stock. I picked up some RL-17 since it was on sale for $22 a pound. David

I was under the assumption that these Hopi hunts are for the Hopi lands only. How can you get a Hopi tag and than go hunt another part of the unit off the Hopi? I think they call it the east and west sunset hunt. I can't find anything in the regs stating the boundary of the hunt. David

Terry, I went in the back way, but never got to the road that leads to the lake. I was just lookin around up there. I covered 120 miles of dirt roads today and saw a bunch of animals. David
