    tipping outfitters

I would say at least 10% depending on circumstances. Most of the guides that I know make most of their $ from tips. If you have a good guide that worked his butt off then he deserves to get paid for it. If he was worthless, then definitely the tip should reflect... a non-tipper is going to be known as such and will definitely pay for that mistake for years to come if he wants to hunt with the same outfitter.

    Questions from a newbie

I realize you might be attached to the 30-30 but I would definitely look at more of a long range weapon. 25-06, 260, 100 WM, 7mm RM.... something that can reach 500 yards and still have some knock down. Most of the coues deer that I have seen do not hang out at the under 200 mark which you pretty much need to be at with a 30-30. Spend some $ on your optics also... it is an expensive hobby.
  3. I love Leica RF... Nikon, not so much. Sorry I have the both and prefer the Leica's hands down. My Leica's do not have angle data but much better, especially when not in perfect conditions.

    your go to pack

Eberlestock Blue Widow... at the time didn't think that I wanted a scabbard but now wish that I had gotten the dragonfly. Most of my stuff lives in the pack. Tripod and 15x binos stay with the pack 99% of the time.
