G&F commission voted unanimously to ban trail cams
huntlines replied to huntlines's topic in The Campfire
I believe this will actually cause guys to kill more deer. I know several guys who passed on bucks because they were obsessed by the “one” they had on camera. Now they will not be passing on bucks they normally wouldn’t because they won’t have the “one” on camera.- 326 replies

G&F commission voted unanimously to ban trail cams

Thanks for the lesson. I decided to look into this further and it’s very scary. The problem seems to be congregation of animals to one area as the biggest contributor to the spread due to the prions being in the deers urine and fecal droppings as well as saliva. With the limited water in Arizona even without the salt licks, the water congregates deer and elk more so than the salt. It would run like wildfire through our herds if or when it gets here. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5931637/ The link is to a study done in Wisconsin. Long read but should scare the heck out of all Arizona sportsmen. -

Salt kills bacteria, how does that spread CWD. The water source would be more apt to spread CWD. -

So why all the freak out by G&F asking taxidermist to help them watch for CWD? Bait ban was the fix all no? -

Yeah I heard that too. I also heard several of the commissioners mention that they live and run cattle in some of the units that have the biggest problem. Seems like they had an agenda from the get-go. As for the commission going against Game & Fish I’ve never seen it but I admit I don’t watch all the commission meetings. -

All the ones I’ve watched it was the exact opposite. Game and fish puts forth their recommendations and the commission blesses it with approval. Seems like a dog and pony show. The commission is there to take the blame for being the puppet but G&F is the man behind the curtain. All the commissioners today had prepared statements they read from. Their minds were made up long ago. They gave people the “chance” to speak but it’s a major waist of time. For example later they were going over license revocations for violations. An attorney even spoke representing a client but obviously it was a rookie attorney. Should have known it was a waist of time because the commission already had their marching orders. Im always disappointed with the process when I decide to watch. -
I don’t understand why so many guiding services were against the ban. Seems to me this just helped their business. People will need guides more than ever now….

I am a little curious why people bag in the commission. Game and Fish department makes the recommendations and the commission are just a bung of yes men who do what the G&F propose. Ive watched several of these meetings and the commission always hears the recommendation, someone makes a motion and the rest vote to approve. -
Who is advocating? Most of us are just pointing out the obvious burden of proof issues.
-
I believe you. A lot of other guides rely heavily on cams and they will find ways around this…..
-
Just be like all the other guides and pay a kid with no hunting license to run them for you.
-
That’s just it, they can only ban them for pursuing wildlife. So now you will still have guys out there with no hunting license running cameras. It’s not going to stop it
-
Agree. I also thought some of the commissioners preaching before their vote was idiotic.
-
Yup, they read from prepared documents. All you who drove up there or called in waisted your time.
-
It’s coming, heck then every year I’d have an elk tag……
-
All you guides and hunter who have hundreds of trail cams, may want to sale them on EBay. Commission just voted unanimously to ban cameras completely.
-
Blah, Blah, Blah just vote and stop preaching! Some of the Commissioners are cattle ranchers and biased. I thought this was about fair chase?
-
Looks like a full ban is going to pass. Voting now

Great comments regarding this ban and issue is dividing the hunting community. Believe me this is only going to get worse. PETA and other animal groups are loving this!
-
I find it funny how some use the argument the ban will help guides. Sure there are a few guide who don’t use them which it will help. However, the far majority of guides use trail cameras and a ton of them. commission meeting is very interesting. Valid points being made on both sides.

I didn’t know guides were the problem
-
But according to some on here you have to prove that. Did the picture come from a trail cam or a hand held camera?
-
Exactly my point. So let’s say the next day you kill said bull you took a picture from your truck the day before. You post picture of said bull on a social media site and G&F show up at your door to cite you. Kinda a stretch but seems people here think it’s going to happen. This is what we have come to?

I knew someone would finally say it, took long enough…….
