I have had some talks with the AZGF and the upper parts got hit pretty hard. I had a friend of mine who fishes the Black a ton went down there and fished below Buffalo Crossing. did not get one single bite. Searched the river hard not a living creature in it. No crawdads, No Drangonfly larva, no nymphs, NO NOTHING. What a bummer Game and fish said surveys on the main stretch of the Black there did not turn up any fish, Everything died!!! Still were some fish in some of the headwaters up high but that was the status that I have received! I don't know anything about on the Res though down lower.

I have had this happen to me as well. I kept an eye on a blind that was left up from end of december until the next august season. No one ever showed up to the blind as I had a motion camera there all late summer. Only thing there was the blind and the bag to put it in. When hunting season came I simply put the blind back into the bag layed it up under the tree it was by with a note inside stating what i had done and why. I placed my blind there and hunting the said spot. To this day I think that blind is still there I have not been back in awhile but no one ever came!!!

I tend to agree the bonus system is a little flawed here in AZ. This is for elk but I put in for some rather easy to draw tags. I have 5 points, not a lot I know, but still 5. Some friends of mine also put in for the same hunts. They have drawn the tag four years in a row with two applicants same app and I can't draw the tag!!! Another group of guys have had the tags multiple times in the last couple years, not consecutive but every other year. I have not payed much attention to the draw odds and all those statistics, but is the 20% for max bonus holders through out the state or unit specific? That could make a difference there if it is state wide changing it to 20% of tags per that unit??? Don't beat me up on this as I am not all that into the stats game and don't pay much attention I just go with the luck of the draw approach.

So I was checking my results and under my elk section it says "Not DRWN" but then it has my first choice hunt number on there???? Does everyone else have the same, just was curious about my second choice and what not?

Casey you are a funny guy. I know I was not drawn, just was wondering why it only lists your first choice? + or - know what I mean

Wait for occasional December hunts or early hunts often?
Becker replied to Flash's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Over the last five years I have noticed very declined rut activity in December in the units surrounding Tucson. In higher elevations there still seems to be some at the end of the month. I think your question should be more geared to the particular unit that you are hunting. Some of the places with low deer densities have been very productive for me in December. My reasoning behind this is because of low deer numbers the bucks really have to travel and check specific does. I might have located four or five groups of does in a twenty square mile section. If there is a hint of rut I know the mature bucks are going to check those does versus high density areas where I don't think the bucks have to travel anywhere to even check if the rut is close. There are Probably 50 does within a quarter mile. Lately I prefer the early hunts. Put in some serious scouting, find the buck you want, pattern him, be there waiting for the sun to come up in range of the buck and shoot him. December tends to be more of a wishing hunt or get lucky in most cases, "I sure hope the big buck decides to come down and check these does in front of me!" Obviously you can still treat december the same as early hunts, but you never know if the buck you are after likes to chase does four miles down range. There is always the chance of losing that said deer vs knowing he has been here for the last month beds there, feeds here, type of deal. Thats my 2 cents! -
Got a reply apparently it is too late to change the deadline has already passed!!!

So I figured I would double check my payment info online there at G&F but when I go in there it will not let me select a species!!!! I click the box and the pull down menu only has "Select Species" in it? Anyone else having this Prob?

I am by no means a bow expert but I like to have mine set up to where when I look through the peep sight I can just see the edge of the sight guard. Basically lining up circle to circle. To me it ensures that I line the bow up the same way every time. Majority of sights are round these days so it seems to work good for me. I don't remember which size peep I have but I did drill it out a little. The next size bigger that I could find was way to huge.

Ill be there. Taking some mounts to set up a booth, come say hello!!!!

talked to my friend in Alpine yesterday. He said there was 8 inches at his house but out by Luna Lake where the wind was blowing so hard it was just dusted

I would say technically the antlers are white underneath. If you strip the velvet off you will have a perfectly white rack, however as mentioned there tends to be a little blood plus they are rubbing on stuff right away. Not sure if you have ever taken a white antler and randomly rub it on a plant or tree, they color up pretty quickly without too much effort. Thus you will never really see white antlers. In the Coues around Tucson here you can visually see this, early in the season you see racks that are very light in color right after they rub, and as the season goes on they get darker. Most color being added as the rut progresses and they are really rubbing and making scrapes. Obviously another factor for antler color is what that particular buck or bull like to rub on, or simply what is available to rub. Bulls in the forest tend to be really dark antlered, while bulls out in the juniper flats are a very light brown.

Hit the water on Monday. Not many caught but this was a good ol' biggun!!!

SORRY Thomc I was merely posting in a way to inform others that not every unit was open to night hunting coyotes! I apologize if it seemed that way just trying to help OTHERS out. I have not read them(double checked) in a while and it seemed for awhile there they could not make up their minds!! I am mostly curious as to why they chose the units they did. Obviously some are sheep units but some of the others???? not sure???? I think they should open it state wide....

On the Strip this year my client killed a buck that moved a bunch. We got pictures of him at 2 AM on a water, killed him that evening right before dark, 5.5 miles away from that water!!! So like 14 hours after the picture was taken. Muleys are crazy beasts during the rut. My father loves muleys and he gets pictures on water sources where the bucks are traveling 5 to 10 miles to get there!!! Of course they don't water every night but....

Some buddies and I have been thinking about going. Correct me if I am wrong but not every unit is open to night hunting coyotes, which seems strange to me???????

She weighed in right at 6 pounds. Let her go to catch again when she gets bigger!!!

I use that alaskan bino system thing that I think Jim Mullens just did a review on but I carry mine on my chest! I also have a pelican case for when I am toting them around the truck that fits them well

Ill have to check that one out

I also used it and like the online app process, but I Prefer the pay upfront method to give us hunters a better chance of discouraging non-hunters from stealing our tags.
