Let's Discuss... SC rez "Freak" un-masked!!!
Becker replied to Apache7mm's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The two outer ones that appear to ball up under the pedicals seem to me to be the extra stuff. Looking at it from behind the ones that go up and out at the 45 degree angle is what I would choose as the main beams. They have the classic beading 3/4 of the way around and look in the picture to be the actual classic main beams. My 2 cents -
I posted this up awhile back to see if any one was interested. Think I'm finally ready to part with it. Figured I would give you guys first dibs before I post it up everywhere else. Glass is clean. Always kept in protective cases. 20x60 - 80 mm ats hd spotter. I am actually wanting to pick up a 65 mm sts hd straight so willing to wheel and deal trades there but other then that looking to sell. Shoot me a pm if interested!!! Will post pics soon!

I seem to notice subtle differences in more colors than anything comparing different brands. All your top end companies swaro, Zeiss, Nikon, vortex will all be comparable IMO. I think it's more personal preference of the particular person. I have always had Luepold rifle scopes since I was little. Never had a problem with one yet and it's what I use today. Are they better than Zeiss or Swarovski scopes? Not sure but I am confident in them. I think the same comes down to binos and spotters. I still have my very first pair of binoculars my father bought me. They are believe it or not a pair of tasco's. The labels are all wore off but they are some type of higher end ones and I have never seen them anywhere ever to try and buy again. But they still feel comfortable to me when I use them. Mostly I think because I have used them forever. They are my truck center console binos now but I still love them. I have dropped the money on everything else Swaro and I am completely satisfied. I have looked through Zeiss, vortex, Nikon and everything else but I just feel at home when I look back through my swaros. Not sure if that makes sense but that's my 2 cents on optics. If you like them and they work for you and you are successful in finding game with them I don't really see what it matters brand wise what you prefer. The top end names brands are splitting atoms when it comes to comparing and not even sure if the human eye can really tell the difference or if its just state of mind that seems to make one appear better than the other!

I just got done attending the Boone and Crockett 28th Big Game Awards. I met up with Josh White, Marshall Collins, Jim Reynolds, and Ryan Eustice. Great bunch of Coues Deer FREAKS!!! There are not very many instances where you can see these caliber of deer all together in one place!!! Impressive bucks to say the least. Here is pic of the Coues Deer Section..... I will list them out since the little tags are hard to read. Oh Man!!! Just a couple more days!!! Get them kids out there. Can't wait to see happy first time hunter field photos!!!

You might check into sending them to a freeze dry company also. Last time I remember it was way low cost to have them done. We sent Jim Heffelfinger to this guy in Colorado for a squirrel mount. World Fauna Taxidermy, out of Aguilar CO. I think the guys last name was Huffman. Just something to check out.

Scouting for OCT melting my brain
Becker replied to CWpredator's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Like pine donkey said they generally change patterns a little when they rub. Lots of times they leave the buddies to rub their velvet. Not sure if its a testosterone thing or what. But they seem to get somewhat testy when they are shedding their velvet. I have seen it 50 50 where they leave the group they were with and never join back or they show back up. Most likely they have become a little more reclusive and are just on a slightly different aspect of slope. A change of angle might be all that is needed to turn them up again. If you were seeing them on a regular they are still right there. Most bigger bucks have a relatively small home range and won't be far from where you originally saw them. -

From the Taxidermist point of view they are all BIG!!! Thick skinned stinky big nasty ELK!!! At 300 inches they become difficult to handle!!! The funniest thing to me is guys throwing out scores. I sat in Alpine and Springerville for most of the archery hunt and the beginning of the rifle/muzzy hunts. I had a mounted bull elk on a stand by my trailer and about 75% of the people would come up and say don't tell me what it scores I want to guess. I would tell them every time, "Don't get carried away with your guessing." The bull Grosses 328. Only one guy guessed 330, everyone one else was 350 or higher!!! They are all shocked when I tell them 328!!! The biggest thing about elk is that there are soooo many measurements. Most people don't seem to realize that if you add just 1 inch to each point and the beam length you have just jumped up by 12. 330 to 340 in all relative terms is not that big of a difference. And so on down the line. just add the tip of your pinky finger to every point and you have jumped up in what most people designate classes. 340,350,360.
