Good practice round for .243 for kids?
Airbusdriver replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks for the info and feedback. I guess I should have mentioned in my original post: between my two boys, they have shot over 2,000 rounds of .22 in the last few months, with and without scopes. They've been using my Marlin rifle with iron sights that I had as a boy, a Rem Mohawk with a scope, and a Ruger 22/45 Mark II pistol. My older son sold his Mission Craze bow and some other stuff to raise money to buy his .243 rifle. They are getting their "first rifles" from Mom & Dad for Christmas: A Ruger 10/22, and a Henry lever action 22. -
My 11 y/o son just bought his first rifle: A Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 (.243). We bought him a Vortex 3-9x40 scope. Sportsman's Warehouse "no tax" sale: Rifle + Scope, $500 out the door. I am as new to rifles as my son. The salesman at SW highly recommended the Talley one-piece mounting system. Has anyone had any experience with the Talley? Any other suggestions?

Talley One-Piece Scope Mount: Feedback
Airbusdriver replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Optics and tripods
What is Outdoorsman and where to I find them? I like doing business with Sportsman's Warehouse, but I don't think they carry Talley. I assume they are reputable; could someone post their link? Does anyone know of any Talley dealers in the East/Southeast Valley? The only dealer I can find on Talley's website is in Scottsdale. -
Sold.

Newbie hunter participated in my first draw this year. My question is: Does AZGFD send the tag in the mail if were drawn, or do you have to go pick it up somewhere>

My son has the Mission Craze. Great range of draw weight and lengths...and very smooth. Here's the website http://missionarchery.com/Craze-bow.asp

The Gilbert woman who was mauled by a bear three times in one attack in Pinetop last month died Monday night after suffering a brain hemorrhage over the weekend. Lana Hollingsworth, 61, was attacked June 28 by the bear, mainly on her upper body, as she let her dog out for a walk late at night in the Sports Village area of the Pinetop Country Club. Great pics...thanks for sharing. If I were you, I would send the pictures to the camera manufacturer. They may replace it if they can use your testimonial that their camera "took a licking and kept on ticking". Who knows, they may give you a new one. It would be great PR for them to show the world that their camera can still take pictures, even after it melts down. It's worth a try...all they can do is say "no".

As a newbie, this season will be my first bow hunt for deer. I have a friend with 160 acres near Bill Williams mountain up in unit 10, so I drew for and was awarded unit 10 (late October), not knowing what else to draw for. Has anyone had any experience hunting up there? Is it any good for deer? Any tips? I will be hunting from a pop up blind. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yote: I dealt with a guy at the Mesa office named DeWayne Tabbot. The number out there is 480-981-9400. Hope this helps.

How can you see what you're shooting, with all those pins in the way? Congrats!

Is it wise to put your name and contact number somewhere on the blind? just curious if anyone does that.

Just drove back from Overgaard to Phoenix today at about 1:30pm. Have been waiting all week for the forest roads to open after all of the rain they had this week. Of course, as I was heading down to the Valley from my 7-day vacation at Mogollon Airpark, I noticed that all of the forest roads between Heber and Payson are now open; barricades are down and no notices posted. Has anyone seen anything official from ASNF?

A Gilbert woman was attacked by a black bear late Tuesday evening while walking her dog in Pinetop, the Arizona Game and Fish Department reports. A passing motorist eventually scared the bear away. The woman was flown to a Phoenix area hospital, where she was undergoing surgery, officials said. Pinetop is roughly 200 miles northeast of central Phoenix. The attack occurred about 60 yards from the dumpster where the adult black bear was scavenging, and the bear reportedly returned several times to attack the victim. "This was an especially aggressive, predatory attack that reminds us that wildlife can be unpredictable," said Larry Voyles, director of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Officials report dogs were quickly able to find the bear within a couple hundred yards of the scene, and it was dispatched immediately. There have been only six documented cases of bear attacks in Arizona since the Game and Fish department started keeping records in 1990. Officials do not believe this attack is related to the wildfires, nor do they believe the bear was diseased. http://www.azcentral.com/community/gilbert/articles/2011/06/29/20110629gilbert-woman-bear-attack-abrk29-ON.html

On July 1st, we are renting a house for a week in Overgaard (Mogollon Airpark). I was planning on doing some scouting, and taking the boys shooting out in the wilderness. I heard a rumor that shooting has been banned due to the fire hazard...any truth to this? I left a message on the ASNF answering machine with the inquiry. If I hear something..I will post.

Has shooting been banned in Apache Sitgreaves?
