Thanks for the info Amanda. I thought I was doing something wrong to cause it.

I've been having trouble with my posts getting "multiply posted", for the lack of a better term. I thought it was just me, but I see that other people are having similar problems. Any feedback on this?

I'm in a bit of a quandary. I may try an early bow hunt next week, and was just wondering: what are my options for hanging & cooling my meat. I usually do a Michigan hunt in the fall or winter hunt here in AZ, so keeping the meat cool to age is not a problem. What do you all do to age your meat in the late summer months? Obviously, the first step is to get the carcass skinned out, but what then? Are there places with coolers that will let you hang a carcass for 4-5 days? Would enjoy hearing some ideas..thanks.

Sorry for the duplicate posts...was getting some weird "fatal error" messages. Amanda can you delete the duplicates? thanks -

Would enjoy hearing some ideas..thanks.

Any one worred about all the rain
Airbusdriver replied to oz31p's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I just scouted 23 today along the creek beds, which now have pools of water. Dare I say that there were LOTS of muleys coming down for a drink. -

Jeff What size is the Polaris? I couldn't get my monitor turned upside down to read the label. -

Maybe I'm being a bit naive here, but isn't AZGFD responsible form managing the population via the number of tags issued? If the herd is "X" (original herd), but needs to be "Z" (the desired herd number), wouldn't simple math dictate that the herd numbers are manged by issuing "Y" number of tags (X-Y=Z)? It seems that given the hunt unit success rates, the increase in technology, draw weights, baiting, etc, etc, etc, are not affecting the actual numbers of the herds, rather, the mismanagement of the number of tags being issued. If the numbers are hurting, then as responsible hunters, we need to suck it up and accept fewer tags being offered to make sure that whitetail hunting is here to stay. But lets not create a smokescreen for the bigger problem of possible mismanagement by legislating a ban on baiting. Perhaps managing the tag numbers instead of hunters' expectations is a more effective and palatable route to consider. As far as the argument that baiting propagates CWD and other communicable diseases: as has been illustrated in other posts, water tanks, rubs, scrapes...all involve transfer the deer's bodily fluids. I'm not buying this argument until I see some empiracle data to support such a claim.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but when I was looking for a quad, there were a lot available on Craigslist.

Mission Craze and Mission Menace are also good choices. The Craze has a greater draw weight/length range.

I was up in Naegelon Canyon the other day. Saw 6 muley does, a flock of turkey, and a completely dry water tank.

Do you by chance still have this bow?

Leave the lat/long coordinates and we'll stop by and take a look at it!

I thought I might take a whack at an early turkey hunt with bow (Aug 24-Sep 13). Can anyone recommend a good unit? Not asking you to disclose your honey holes, just a good unit to take my Jeep and start some scouting to get out of this heat! Thanks in advance.

Early bow hunt for turkey: what's a good unit
Airbusdriver replied to Airbusdriver's topic in The Campfire
23 seems to be the way to go for me. I can get up and back in the same day for scouting. If memory serves, Hells Gate Wilderness Area/Bear Flats looks like it might be good. 6a is some great country, too...love the area up by Happy Jack. Thanks for the tips...keep 'em coming. -
I've heard of this method. No chance of getting moisture under the lens?
-
Wow...I have the exact same gun. My favorite hunting sidearm. Good luck with the sale.

I want to try the early turkey hunt using a bow. I was wondering if broad heads are the best tool for the job? Also, since I've never done an early (late summer) turkey hunt, what is the best way to hunt them? Since they're not in the rut, I assume that calling would be useless. Is it best just to stalk near a treeline/meadow border? Any info (and general locations, i.e. hunt units) would be appreciated.

How long does meat last in the freezer?
Airbusdriver replied to kennyazman's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
The FoodSaver vacuum sealer works wonders. The setup cost is a little pricey, but after that, all you need is a roll of bags. I've had meat & fish that lasts well over a year. It's also great for marinating. -
36B: Any experiences or feedback?
Airbusdriver replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You say that joking but I'd say that at least half of the hunters I saw out there last year were in street clothes. I had one guy in a red flannel shirt and jeans hike up the hill I was glassing (from the back side) and plop down a lawn chair. He sat there with his gun in his lap for about 20 minutes before a buck came right over the hill in front of him. He stood up, shot it, threw it over his shoulder, packed up his lawn chair and walked back over the hill like that was just how he planned it. The dude didn't have binos or anything. That was deflating to say the least. That just figures, doesn't it?! I remember once seeing three huge tom turkeys walking down the shoulder of the freeway near Minneapolis airport, right after I spent three days hunting turkey in AZ and getting skunked (in all fairness, it was my first stab at turkey hunting). Sometimes I guess hunting life just ain't fair! -

Thanks for the reminder re sidearm. I carry a S&W .357 with 6" barrel ALWAYS when I'm scouting/hunting, regardless of geographic area. I was bow hunting up north one time, sensed something/someone was looking at me. Out of the corner of my eye, a mountain lion was in a crouch 30' away. My handy Smith saved my bacon; as soon as I cocked, the lion took off. If anyone sees me out there in 36b, be sure to say "hi"...I'll be the one wearing cammo -

Drew hunt number 1140: Oct 26th - Nov. 1st, 2012 Sounds like I'll finally get to put my Jeep to good use.
