Mnt. Lion in Scottsdale!
BASS replied to Tucson John's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I can't say that I blame the AZGFD about not taking people serious anymore. I can't tell you how many times the "mountain lion" has turned out to be a large bobcat. People just don't know the two. If I was your wife I would have been mad though. It seems early for the animals to be looking for water though. -
That's great! I knew that the fawns would lay down and "hide" but never thought that a grown buck would do the same thing. It makes sense now that I think about it. I would have loved to catch that on film to show that guy later.

Okay, that's it I'm buying that camera in the next week or two. I think it is so cool that it has the video options. Thanks TAM -

TAM, what make, and model is it? Im looking for a new digital camera that doesn't cost an arm and a leg since they have come down in price. -

Great video DesertBull! I too enjoy just filming stuff. I have filmed countless Paintball games, getting right up close to the shooters to the point I have been hit point blank. LOL I just want to get some nice film of animals in their natural suroundings. My dad, and uncle use to film a lot of the Elk around Heber, and Forest Lakes. But they carried one of those huge cameras that would use the full sized VHS tapes! -
I'm just going to agree.

Wow that fish looks huge though!

Reddog, the arrow was bent, but after using my little arrow straightener I was shooting it again the next time we went out with no obvious flaw in the flight. Next time I'm over there I'll take a photo that shows were the feild point hit. I too was shocked at it not cracking, I even called a cracked arrow. My point in doing it was to prove that even if a aluminum arrow hit the "shoulder blade" of an elk it wouldn't explode like a carbon arrow would. I was just lucky that I still had five usable arrows when we left.

I'm going to thorw out a guess of Canyon Lake, and a rough weight of 9-11 pounds? My sisters boyfriend pulled a 13 pounder out of canyon a couple years ago. Nice fish. What were you fishing with?

hmm thanks for the info. I might have to drive down there and check these out closer. I know I'm going to buy the Badlands 2200 pack, which will hold a bow. Of course I would only have my bow on the pack as I left (or returned) to camp when it was much too dark to shoot anyways. But don't think it would be smart to leave it on the pack as I was actually hunting.
-
okay I have to wonder. I too carry 10x 42 binos, and like you said you need both hand to help keep them stable. I would like to have my bow in a safe spot but at the ready in a moments notice. I like the idea of the belt ones, but worry about having to always find the center of the bow in order to keep it balanced. This is why I was looking at the slings. But they seem like they would be a PITA to remove from a bow quickly.

I had a deer target that sat out in the sun and rain for over three years. It had the normal sun damage to it, and held up well over 4000 shots. Then I went to go shoot one day and all of my target had been stolen. So I too would like any info on the glendel deer.
-
So they are helpful then. I had one in my hand that I was going to buy, but thought about it not being helpful so I put it back. I might have to go out shopping again. ARIZONA GUIDE, what Badlands pack do you use? I was looking at the 2200 and think I will go ahead and buy it.

I was told by another hunter, during last years hunt in unit 5B, that he had been seeing a 2 or 3:1 bull to cow ratio. I have to say that I also saw a couple of bulls"sharing" a herd. Nothing like sloppy seconds I guess...
-
When you head into the woods/desert, what is on your back? What is your pack like? What's in it? Why? I'm just curious as to what I'm missing, or items that might make the pack lighter by swapping out things for other items. This is for a normal day pack only, non of that packing camp in, just for the day.

I can't decide which one I should work for! It won't matter though, at then end of each week I will still have to pay them after they keep my check. LOL It would be cool to work at Bass Pro Shops with "Mr. Bass" on my name tag. BTW the tucson store is due in October I think.
-
If you shot a buff. on this hunt, would it count as your one in a lifetime? I'm guessing yes. I know a couple hunters that are gunning for this hunt just to buy the extra tags.

This is in 5B Not the North, or South. That little unit inbetween just called 5B. All the other "hot" spots are still closed, so I put this camera up were ever I could get into. The really hot spot is the first road that turns right as you come onto the Kinikinik lake road that comes off the highway. It's open, but there were campers everywhere when I was up there.

A few inches huh? Are you sure they arn't DONE growing. I sure hope they have a good year this year. It would be nice to have a nice rack with meat this year.

The Elk are growing very quickly IMO up north. I have pics posted here http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index...?showtopic=1502

Keep them coming guys, all of them look great! Charlie is actually my dad's dog. And here is my buddy, Buddy! He's one year old, and is the most lovable dog I have ever seen. He doesn't care who you are, but will give you the biggest kiss he can. He is also the only one of our dogs that won't lay down an watch TV with the family. I love him the most. Then there is Sasha. She is my sister's dog, and is also one year old. She isn't much of a dog IMHO, she barks on comand, and doesn't listen while out in the forest. She also almost drowned in Bartlett last year while getting lost in the water. I had to save her in my blue jeans. BTW those things get heavy when wet. And last but not least Nikko. He is a little shoot-su ( ) In his mind he is one of the big dogs. He has no idea that he is only the size of their heads. He also trys to swim in the lakes, but comes out looking like a wet rat. We still love him though. -

I knew this was going to come up The guy I bought it from had it on a 2" lift, and those chrome rims, he also dropped in a '66 mustang 289 engine in it. It's now loud, but still tops out at 50
