You guys have bigger trust issues than I do!
-
Glad to hear everything turned out okay. I hate leaving my bows hanging while I go grab arrows at Usery, sadly, I guess I have a slight distrust of strangers; perhaps from dealing with so many sociopaths daily and hearing so many stories of things walking away.

Let me start out by saying I do not work for, support or are compensated for this in anyway. I recently purchased an app for my android devices (iphone has it also) it is put out by Deer & Deer Hunting called "Shot Placement" and I think its pretty cool for what it is. Its not a game, its more of an "instruction" application for deer hunters. I honestly think all hunters could benefit from this app, heres why. The app is very basic, a 3D deer stands on the screen, not moving, and you can rotate and zoom around it. You then click on the deer for your shot. A red line appears that follows the path of the shot. Once again you can zoom and rotate o see the exit. Now the cool part! Using the slider at the top, you are able to peel the layers off the buck to reveal its organs. Now I am not a doctor, didnt play one on tv, heck I didnt even stay at a Holiday Inn, so what the heck did that shot hit!?! Well, if you click on the icon on the upper right, it will tell you what the hit, what the tracking sign will look like (blood, stomach matter etc) and how long to wait. Pretty cool! This app showed me the shot ive told myself would take if presented wouldnt be that great of a hot after all, and a slight change would be many times better. Ive showed this to old hunters as well with similar results, the shot they thought was good, wasnt and end up hitting the paunch. My final thoughts are that this app is fun, not something you will be able to play with for hours upon hours day after day, but ive played with it a lot more than I thought I would. Now, is it worth the $9. 99? Maybe. I think half that price would be better, and easier to justify. If you have a new hunter, this app is perfect for them to learn from. Ive been hunting for most of my young life, and I learned a thing or two also. Purposely making bad shots to learn from them was a major help I think.

Heh, our desert tortoise is currently asleep in my bedroom, even he hates being outside!

I know a lot of guys are having good luck selling off the RAK accessories from purchased Assassins on Archery Talk. Of course they are not getting what the things would go for new, but its something you can put towards what you want.

Since the cows tend to come in first always, and stay on the outskirts (satellite bulls aside) I'd follow the advice above and pay attention while walking around.

Sometimes, it isn't about the score of the bone, and more about outsmarting an animal on their turf. The rack size is just a bonus.

I'm curious what sites you guys are running?

I was shooting my recurve since January off and on, then when I got my assasin I went to every day. Just in the backyard, so 25-30 yards tops. Then on Saturday I have been hitting Usery to shoot the further distances and trying my hand at the bag targets. I'm now down to jus two arrows so I'll need to hit a shop and get the others refletched this week. Sun-Wedness day I bet I shoot only twenty or so times, and end with the last four or so shots being held for thrity seconds or so before shooting. Since I work at nights, I'm out back around two or three in the afternoon, the heat isn't all that bad. At Usery I always seem to over do it, and shoot well past fatigue and pay for it for the next few days when I wake up!

Idgaf is right! Everyone at work hates me since tags came out! I've been blowing on diaphragms in the parking garage and hallways for months now! If youre ever in downtown Phoenix around three in the morning, you *may* hear some bugles, cow estrus and some turkey mixed in. ;0)

Perfect job to overcome buck fever!

Amazing, I super hope I can get out there in the next month and start trying to find one I want to focus on! Thanks for the video (and my new background. )

I kind of felt sorry for him at first. Thinking how many times I have gone out to the desert to shoot and seeing (especially at night) a shower of sparks fly off something metal that was hidden or buried in the dirt you had no idea was there or gettng a tracer from a class mixed into a tub of 5.56 and not catching the colored tip. But according to the report he was shooting that dang dragons breath crap. Seriously?

Looks like he was having a good time mooning your cam!

I'm not telling you NUFFIN, 'cause I have the same hunt! All the times I've hunted 6A, and its been a while since I actually hunted! Everybody out there is blowing calls like crazy, from sun up to sun down all you hear is the years hottest Primos products! I'd be suprised if people arn't already calling to Elk as they are scouting/camping. My plan is soft cow calling sparenly, and let everyone else bugle to locate. Its going to be a dang zoo on opening day, and the second weekend is going to be worse!

Man, SHREK I sure hope I can duplicate that second photo this year!

*usually* the mesa one is smaller, but can still show some pretty cool stuff. The crossroads or Small Arm Review (unless they rejoined them again) has a lot more of the smaller harder to find things.

Happy Birthday man! Hope you had a good day out on the lake!

Cornhole! The only game that somehow gets easier the drunker you get! Id say Cowboy Golf ranks up there, but tipsy people flailing golf balls on rope at each other gets out of hand quick!

I volunteer to be a taste tester!

Thats a great website to reference, thank you!

You're right, but sadly I doubt harsher penalties would do much.

Late hunts are cold, early hunts are warm/hot! Bring some good rain gear, not just the $. 99 emergency poncho. On one of our mid season muzzy hunts we were sweating in the morning, and then ran off a mountain with rain and lightning, raced back on ATVs in hail, and sat in the trailer watching it snow! For camo, its ALL situational. It may look great in the magazines after a couple hours of photoshop, but never looks "right" in the field. I am the school of thought that larger organic patterns like the predator camo is more effective across a broader range than the smaller sticks and leaves; just look at the military Multicam, looks great everywhere and has large random shapes.

Anyone have reports of exactly where the fire near mormon lake was? 6A has a pretty good history of being thick, and a fire would move through there fast! I just dont know what people think, especially with active fires burning!
