105, shot you back a PM.

I'm telling you guys, they really dropped the ball this year. I also still think we all need to get together and see what we can get done as a group. The fight for my Bull tag is still going on.
-
Yeah we were hit pretty good tuesday night. Our street had water from yard to yard, it was hard to tell where the gutters ended and the sidewalk started. Of course I had to go play in it with the truck. It wasn't until yesterday I found out I had gotten my mass air flow sensor wet. Glad we have one of those code readers to reset that thing.
-
No way! I'm going to get something out of this no matter what. Maybe I should hook up with your buddy. Let me know what is up.

Ouch! That's harsh Lark!

Is this an AZDGF screw up???????????????
BASS replied to redneck74's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I thought it was all, or none. Maybe we should try to find out how many people have screw ups this year, and go to GFD as a group to get things fixed. -
I think that the guy entering the info is the one who screws up the most, not the owners of the info as GFD tries to pass off. Either way something needs to be changed I think. I havn't been drawn in three-four years for elk, yet one of my friends has drawn in 10, and 9 for the last four years in a row. Or maybe I should just get a job at the draw office? That way we all would get our tags!
-
Que? Where does it say that! Tell me about it. I went down there today and, suprise suprise, their "systems are currently down, sorry." I pleaded my case to the lady there and she made a call to the draw results office. They are trying to say that I applied twice! I tried to tell them that my dad and I have very close info, including birth dates that could very easily be mixed up if not careful. We each put in for different hunts (two different apps) and that is why we have two checks (cashed) but they keep saying that the reason I have two checks is because I applied twice. They said their systems would be up today at 5:30, but they closed at 5 so that did me no good. But little do they know that I will be right back down there after work tomorrow. I'm really upset about this screw up, and am not going to let this one slide anytime soon.

Yeah, I have a couple of them that I like to use. I can not remember what the names are, but I will go look at them and then repost with the names. I think they were like $40-50 or so, and they work great! They do not block out the sound of a gun blast, but the higher dollar ones more than likely would. The only problems I had with the ones I use is that when you wear a head net, have long hair, or get anything near them, they will make a buzzer sound. It's not loud to anything else besides you. This isn't much of a problem, just readjust it, and you should be fine. The other problem had me laughing at myself after I knew what was going on. I was doing a javilina hunt and was trying them out for later that year. On the way up the wash we ran into a giant swarm of bees moving along. Later as I was walking it sounded like I was being attacked by the swarm! I was high stepping, and swinging my arms like crazy, but it was only a fly that was close to the small mic for the hearing aid. During the Elk rut up North is neat with them on in both ears. You will be amazed at how many are really talking out there, and only the few you can actually hear.

Uh, let's see, I drew my coues tag so that's cool, but WTF happened to my Elk tag? The internet says "REJECTED There was not enough payment enclosed with your application." Yet I'm holding the returned check for $83 from my bank that was cashed! The account had about $7,000 in it, and just about never drops below $2,000 or so, and Elk tags are only $83 so why didn't I get drawn? Below that, it says "ELK NOT DRAWN 3122 NT DRN BULL ELK 22-SEP-06 05-OCT-06." Why wasn't that one rejected? I'm heading down to the office to see what happened.

Listen to ultramag with the weight issue! We bought a toy hauler that "our truck would haul with out any problems, people do it all the time!" We even called Chevy to ask them if the 1500 would haul it, and they said that it would be fine. Well it wasn't fine. Going up any kind of hill put such a load on the truck, and going from Chandler to Payson was a fight every time. We ended up buying an F250 to haul it with and now hills are not anything different from flat grounds. The sway bars are a must, and might want to be upgraded depending on what kind they give you. Ours is 25' and pulls just fine, just watch those low tree branches.

I stood right there as they recut the arrows I bought, and ended up spending another $30.
-
About how long did that take? Was it a drop off one day, pick up the following day? I wish I would have checked into that yesterday while I was there. I scored half a dozen Gold Tip arrows that had been cut to the wrong size by mistake, but were just the right size for me! If I would have known it was that much I would have left my bow there.

Well yeah that does stink that while we are sitting in blinds, there will be guys out there shooting dove out of the trees. That does bother me a bit. Although, if you find a nice spot for deer you can hunt the early morning, then around nine or so hop in the truck and drive up the road a few miles and hunt dove for a couple hours. Then it will be nap time, and back to the water hole for the afternoon hunt. It would a little hectic, but it just might work!

Does liver really taste like dove? I like dove every now and then, but can't stand liver one bit. I think it's all in my head, but like you said, liver makes me gag.

I think you are supose to call the Operation Game Thief number to get someone to come out and check it. The only problem with that, is not all of the dead heads we find are close to a road, or trail. It would be a royal pain in the butt to hike back out to a road to meet up with the officer, then hike all the way back out to where you found it at only to loose it. But as stated in this thread earlier, it may be easier than fighting it out in court.
-
The way it was explained to me by Officer Phoenix of the AZGFD was that any dead animal that has been found first needs to be reported. An officer will come out and decide how it died. If it was a natural death the head should be yours if you want it, but if has been shot it belongs to the state. He said the reason was that a few years back a bunch of large bulls were turning up dead, and a small group of guys always seemed to be the ones who would find them. Coincidence? Maye, but they also could have been shooting these bulls to come back later and score their "dead head" racks. The reason I know this is because we found a dead bull, and on the way back to camp to get a saw I ran into Officer Phoenix who filled me in on the rules. He then hiked back out with me to the bull, and decided that it had been hit by a vehicle because of the way the skin had started to shrink from it not eating. He then cut the head off for us, and hiked it back to camp for us. His reason was that it was still opening day, and much to early to make a return hike back to camp. Once he got it back to camp he gave us his card with a note on the back that the animal had been checked out, and was legal for us to keep. He was actually a really nice guy, and has been each time I have ran into him since.

Wow, what an awsome honnor! Congratulations! -Kenny -
That would be very hard for me to leave those sheds there when I left.
-
You don't like dove? We batter then up in a beer batter, then fry them and I think they are great. Not something I could eat everyday, but still good. Maybe you should add one of those snarrows to your quiver just in case.
-
It does look like a deep gash in the photo. Although I do think that a shot like that would have taken it's toll quickly on a deer and killed it off. It also could be a leaf on that tree, but there arn't any other leaves anywhere else to try and compare it to.

Arizona Game and Fish hosts photo contest for 2007 calendar
BASS replied to AZP&Y's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Maybe I'll send them this photo... -
Thanks for the link Az, I think I'm going to order the DVD. When I go scouting, or hunting I try to take the portable DVD player to help take the edge off those long nights when you can't fall asleep, hunting videos tend to keep me up longer though.
-
I don't think I have ever heard of these videos. Is there a link to buy them online? Any local stores carry them? As you can tell, you have piqued my interest with that post.
-
Well heck that sounds like a neat video, I'll take one if you have any left. But will you autograph them?
