I use to have one of these bows. They are a awsome bows, and are very forgiving. I sold mine to a friend two years ago, and it has been sitting in his closet since then. And for $45 you arn't risking too much!
-
Yeah that was a nice deer you got last year. What did you do with it? Last time I saw it, it was boiling dry in the backyard.
-
I dunno.... How long has that coors light been sitting around?

This is just me talking so take it for what it's worth. After a burn, the ash actually helps to get everything going again, along with some rain. The soil will become "recharged" and sprouts will start to grow back along with some grass. These will slowly bring deer back to the area. But it may take a few years for the shrubs and trees to come back. Wildfires look horrible right after they happen, but in the long haul they are a good deal. The only problem is to get this going, you need rain, and we are having a hard time getting that. It's hard to look at the anual rain fall because it lies. Even though the anual totals sound good, it gives a very false reading, because all that rain may only come in a couple months out of the year. It would be much better to get a little bit every other month instead of all of it at once. It's good when we get rain late in the year because the does will fatten up and be able to support a new fawn. But we also need rain around this time too because of the fawns we are already on the ground. They need the rain to help grow grass for them to eat so they can survive the winter. With this drought we are having, along with the fires it's getting tough for our deer.

You don't like the rack she has?

You may want to try World of Maps in Mesa. On Southern between Dobson & Alma School right across from MCC. They have maps for most of the hunt units, as well as just about everywhere else. It's worth a shot.

Just a heads up guys, the fuel is going to change in '07, and the 03 pickups are awsome trucks that are pushing more power than the 07 trucks will. It might be a good idea to grab an "older" truck so you still have the power when everything drops later this year!

Welcome to the site. Did you get a hold of them today?

I will also try to use my pack first, then what ever else I can find.

Younghunter is back!!
BASS replied to elkhunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Geez eight times!?! I was just wondering the other day what kind of photos he had waiting for us. -
Just because I'm wondering and nothing more. What kind of force would be behind an arrow at such distance? I know bullets will loose velocity at certain ranges, but when will an arrow become almost useless? I realize that it's going to depend on draw weight, arrow weight, and a few other factors.

Nice buck in Northern AZ

D'oh! I hate when that happens. -
Well said Rembrant. I learned this lesson a couple years ago myself. I did a ton of scouting for elk, and found two really good spots. I made the mistake of opening my mouth one too many times, and lost those spots. The next thing I know this guy is trying to tell me where to go hunting, but they are the same spots I told him about! Now this year I put in for that unit again, and found out a little bit later that the guy I talked to then put in over seven other guys for the same hunt! Loose lips sink ships.

Do you have a good pair of binos? I don't know how I hunted for years without any. Now I save a lot of boot leather by just getting up high and glassing.
-
I use the Nikon Monarchs 10x42 for my hunts. I think I paid $300 for them, and I think they are great for the money. Please keep us posted on how they work. We also expect some good digiscoping photos.

If you want to see some up close head down to Arizona City, down by Casa Grande. They are all over the place out there. Infact one of our builders had to put a house being built on hold for three months until someone could come out and relocate them. Mostly because some hippy lady threw a huge fit and threatened to sue the company for harrassing the birds.
-
Yep, that's what happened.... I was looking for some "whitetail" inside the city. *cat call*

I will vouch for this. I introduced him to the site out of kind of bad circumstances. I rear ended his mom's truck hardcore last week and we talked for a bit while the cop figured everything out. BTW, has your mom gotten ahold of that ladies insurance company yet? I called three times last week, and they told me the lady hadn't called them yet, so they couldn't do anything.

Yeah, most people only shoot long range to perfect their close range like Redbeard said. I have something for you to try, heck everyone should try. Do about twenty jumping jacks, then grab your bow and try for a 30 yard shot. That should be close to what we would be feeling when that close and getting ready for a shot. I know over the weekend I put a stalk on a small spike with three cows up to about thiry yards or so. I swore that my heart was bouncing through my shirt.

Trail pics from past week
BASS replied to azhuntnut's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Hmm, I would say the 2nd and fourth are extreme closeups of elk! Very cool David! -
You can try photobucket, but havn't had much luck with them. I host mine on google videos, just don't expect a ton of "Whoa! Awsome vid!" replies. That is a nice looking deer, and man, I thought 6A was green till I saw those photos!
-
I have mine sitting on a trail leading to a water hole that seems to be getting hit my elk and some deer so I should know by this time next week. I sat on the tank yesterday but all I saw were some ducks, then the rain hit hard so we left. It takes some nice photos, for the price it is. I would say they are about the same as a 35mm or maybe a little less.
-
I fail to see any problem with that! Some my closest encounters with elk have happened after taking a short (well it began short!) nap in the feild only to wake up with a her all around you.

Taking Photos of Your Coues Buck
BASS replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Great write up! I think we might want to make this a sticky for this page to so that it isn't lost. Plenty of good info that tends to get lost in the excitment. -

Now, I'm not sure, but is this natural selection at it's finest?
