Is this the pistol your buddy had, and only shot once?
-
I'm not at liberty to answer this question at this time.... I have a couple spots as close as 45 minutes, but most of my areas are around 2.5-3 hours away.

Suggestions for tripod mounted pistol grip gyro
BASS replied to royerj1's topic in Optics and tripods
I have a pistol grip head. How do I like it? I have no idea, none of my tripods will accept it, so I'm saving for a new tripod now. -
Man, I say drop that poundage down to 65 and see how you do then. I would say that after two or three times of hitting that 70 pound mark then hitting the let off might be a source of the problem. Just my $.02 on the situtaion.

BH12, No, you can not use a crossbow for archery only hunts. You can only use them for HAM (handgun, archery, muzzleloader) hunts or for rifle hunts. You say you shake when holding at full draw. What draw weight are you shooting? Maybe if you crank your bow down a few pounds you might have an easier time holding at full draw without loosing your currect specs too much.

I tried to donate my coues tag last year because my dad had a 6A muzzy bull hunt at the same time, but never could get a phone call back. It was too bad too, since I only got to hunt two days, and didn't even try to hit it hard after coming directly off an elk hunt.

Anyone have any stories from this weekend?
BASS replied to matthewp45's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Great story! I wish my deer would die fifty yards from my truck, instead I shoot the little guys about two hundred yards of the toughest hike. But... thanks to missedagain, we ussually get them out. -
Yeah, head out sometime and try to only put a stalk on an animal. That is a huge rush for me. During the summer months I will head out and stalk Elk for fun with a camera. What seems to work very well for me is something I learned from azhuntnut. Get on your belly and crawl where there is no cover. It doesn't always work, but in this last summer I have gotten to with in 30 yards or so of both Bulls, Cows and a herd of about five mule deer bucks about six or seven different times. Once you are that close though, it get's kind of boring waiting for them to wander off so you don't let them wise up to hunters getting so close. What kind of hunting are you doing? Are you sitting in a stand, or blind, or are you out hiking around? Are the deer passing by, or hanging out in the same general area where you might be able to change your attack? Give us a little info about how you are aproaching this problem and I'm sure we can help you change something to get closer. If all else fails, I guess you could go rambo and just take off charging them yelling really loud hoping they go into shock until you get closer.

I found a elk spike shed on Sunday night laying next to the road. Does that count?

How long do you leave your cam's
BASS replied to hunt4horns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Good point, I have only left mine out for a week because up till about two months ago I have only used 35mm and after a week the film has ussually been used up. -
yeah man, we need a good story to hold us over till the next weekend! The truck has to be clean by now, and the wife & kids have to be sick of you again by now, so where is our story?

Nice buck.

How long do you leave your cam's
BASS replied to hunt4horns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I leave mine for one week. From Sunday night, to Friday night, or Saturday morning. In my mind this cuts back on the chance of someone seeing it while out on a hike or something. -
Yep, the all too familar flag that I see so often.

We got up in 6A late on Saturday, and fought quads all weekend. Found a small spike shed laying next to the road, I look like a red lobster from being in the sun all weekend and can't hardley move. It was an awsome weekend! -
The day that the entire world was waiting for is finnaly here. He met his match. Poor guy.

All this rain has greened everything up!

Great photos, they are amazingly clear! Thanks for posting them Amanda! -
David is right, just a 25 year warranty that is more than enough for us when it comes to glasses IMO.

It's prickly pear fruit season!
BASS replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I do like prickly pear fruit, I just hate getting them ready to eat. I burn the hairs off with a lighter, but always seem to miss that one that finds your tounge! I have never juiced them, but that might be something I am going to try this year. -
I walked around from about sun up to about 8:45 or so, then headed back to the truck to watch some "Full Metal Jacket" I then started seeing birds. I think the best part of the day was my last bird, it was flying directly towards me so I waited until the absolute second to stand up. I was using a little 18" barrel "riot gun" shooting some very high base reloads. I knocked the bird down, but had to duck down to try to avoid getting smacked in the head; but it still hit me square in the back then rolled under my chair I was sitting in. Dang kamikaze birds.

I bought Nikons new scope and am very impressed by it. I didn't have $1300-$3000 for the one I would like to have, but for $300 and a 25 years warrenty I think it's nice. I used it to look for bear a few weeks ago with another CWT member and it didn't put a lot of eye strain on me. I also bought the pistol grip head for my tripod, but I can't mount it to my tripod so I sit playing with it at home.

Do we know yet if all the info will be saved, or are we going to loose it?
