I put snacks in the pocket for the spotting scope because mine doesn't fit in there. The pocket on the outside of that batwing is nothing but firstaid supplies. On the other batwing pocket I keep another camo face net incase the one in my pants pocket runs away. My GPS, cell phone, camera, and notebook are in the pocket on the outside at the top. The pocket inside holds random stuff like lighters, a small mirror, two way radio, any extra calls I'm not planning on using but may end up using (like a predator call during turkey season) extra batteries for the GPS and radio, and a very basic overnight/survival kit. In the mesh pocket inside I put all my knives in a ziplock bag, and any extra scents also in their own ziplock bag (can you guess why?). Game bags, and rain gear is rolled up as tight as possible and tied to keep them that way and put in the bottom of the pack. The main pocket in the pack will sometimes hold some rope, but mostly stays empty. The water blader is set inside, and hung from the little red rope that is supose to keep your keys. I'll strap my jacket to the outside held on with the batwings. I love the pack. I would love to have an eberlestock pack, but I tend to fill empty pockets, then search for something that I can no longer find.

Is your mini a .223 cal? If so I would be careful shooting the 5.56. Even though they are very close, they are not the same as .223. The 5.56 chamber is slightly larger than the .223 because of the hotter load the 5.56 shoots it's case is a bit thicker. Your ejection problem could be because the expansion is causing the case neck to expand to it's absolute maximum farther down closer to the casing. I don't want to sound like I'm preaching to you, but this has been a problem on arfcom where a few .223 guns (both auto, and bolt) have split after shooting a 5.56 round. Other than that, I would say the .223 bolt should just need the chamber polished as others have said. It should like there is a minor imperfection in there causing the problem when the gun gets a little dirty.

Video Cameras for hunting
BASS replied to flagcoueskiller's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Wal-Mart had a nice little camera that is about the size of your hand. We picked it up to try it out, and I actually like it a lot. It's a JVC with 32x zoom, has the wide (16:9) mode for filming, and also takes stills. The quality isn't as good as the expensive cameras like many of those videos are shot with, but they are still fairly good. -
I need the Cliff Notes for this thread, does anyone have a spare copy? Very cool stuff though, it's strange to think of hunting deer with tusks on them.

I had to go buy a couple jackets last night to work in. I've loving it. I also just got word that my friends younger brother just dropped a bull in the 300 class up in unit 1, that has to be very cold!

I use to put a note saying that it was one of nine in the area from [enter local university name here] Biology department for research.

How about banning atv use during hunting season!!!! Nothing worse than these clowns that ride up and down the roads all day long, They definetly need a IQ check!!! Don't get mad if a quad passe on the road, near where you are hunting. Although if they stayed on the roads to begin with then there wouldn't be any problems IMO keep them out of the feild.

While out on my hunt over the weekend I spotted something that didn't look right a couple ridges over. After moving a couple times to resetup I could see that it was a Ram! I thought it was kind of cool to see one out in the field in the lower areas. I put my hunt on pause to try to see how close I could get to him, and I was shocked to see that getting within 40 yards of him wasn't very hard even when making all kinds of noise. Here it is after I moved a couple times, still a long ways away, about 600 yards or so. Same photo after some editing... Crossing a trail... Last photo, I was about fourty yards at this point, then I remembered why I was out there in the first place and left him alone.

22 JK, those photos were taken down in unit 32.

missedagain, and I were talking about this yesterday. I would love to put my archery target under a tree right off the road and sit back with a camera. I don't think this thread is talking about having to crawl down a road to keep from busting a CV shaft, or throwing an alignment off, or even not being able to walk due to health. I, personally, think this thread was started for those who are driving 5mph down a maintained dirt road with guys in the bed of the truck, not letting any other vehicles pass. Or those who want to drive their quads to the water hole to glass from; even though none of us glass right, because these guys can glass an canyon just over Mach 3 and be done. Can't those with problems walking (because of health, not laziness) apply for a permit that allows them to hunt from a vehicle? I also do not have a problem sending another member a PM with info to check out a new spot to them that I have hunted before. I do have a problem sending any info to those who make an account, and their first post is "Where should I hunt in XXX?" and then they are never heard from again. There is a difference from someone who has made an account and doesn't post often, and someone who is just tossing a hook out and hoping someone bites. That's just my opinon, and it's worth what you paid for it.....

if anyone hunts this area
BASS replied to azryan's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I know there has to be a few fields up there on Ord, it's just a matter of time before they are found. It may be worth while to build an AR15 pistol to store in your pack. -
You know that I like the Rhino a lot. It sounds like the Ranger is just what you are looking for, but just remember that it is a bit wider and that may become a problem later on. Although you are going to be able to out run stock Rhinos with that beast, and crawl over anything as long as you have traction on atleast two wheels you also sit up higher so be cautious over really rough stuff. My friends uncle has two of the Rangers, and we have rolled them a couple times by doing stuff that maybe should have been passed on, or have looked for another way around it. The center of gravity on the Rangers sits kind of high in my opinion so care needs to be taken. I mean you can still take a turn on a dirt road full bore and be fine, but on the really rough "rock crawling" stuff care needs to be taken. Over all it sounds like the Ranger would fit you guys perfect! I'd call Four Seasons Motorsports in Rye and ask for a price. They were about two to three thousand less than the other shops in the valley on the rhinos.

My pronghorns are a few years old, and are seeing their last year I think. There are seams ripping, and the soles are getting worn down. I also had to have missedagain and my sister bring down another pair of insoles last weekend for them because my feet were killing me. I am going to buy another pair and try to break them in before my javilina hunt, they are the best boots I have ever owned. BTW I wear them daily to work and are almost worn year round.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but for a rifle hunt you want to be seen. So maybe you pull out the meat locker bottom/ orange flag and let the rifle butt sit on that? Then use the batwings to hold it still? That's the only way I could see it holding a rifle.

Road hunters bother me worse than the e-scouters. I got stuck behind one over the weekend. The jerk wouldn't let me pass him. I thought about stopping the rhino and jumping out with the hunter acting like we saw something just to see what he would do.

You need to learn how to do the "bark" that cows do when they get spooked.

I know this was directed at me. I was buying my license last night at 6:20 from Sportsmans and dropped them off at the office at 6:50. But now, my application is on the top!

BASS replied to scoutm's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
heck its coming up quick man...u gonna be able to handle the pressure ...we expect u to tag out...id say lets start a pool on how big a deer BASS is gonna get....i did meet bowhunter12(the one i guess u had an accident with)...wat ever happened with all that Oh geez, did I say that I had a tag? If you want to start up a pool on how big my deer is going to be, you may want to start looking at the "worlds smallest shed" thread that should give you an idea. I sure hope I can tag out. We're going to try and get a little farther out from the masses this year and try something different, only time will tell. As for our accident, my insurance company is dragging their feet like they always do. -

Nice bucks in the first one, and I think I have seen the second one somewhere else. I'm really getting excited about my hunt at the end of the month. -
I let my idiot uncle shoot my muzzleloader two years ago with 150 grains and a .50 cal sabot. He put the stock under his shoulder and put the scope right up against his eye and yanked the trigger. When he stood up he had this stupid looking grin on his face and said 'Did I hit it!?!" The rest of us stood there in shock from the bloody ring around his eye.

That seems like a more likely senerio than the change in temp due to the water. Aren't most of these optics filled with some kind of gas to keep them from fogging up on the inside?
-
Are you using windows video maker? Hope to see the video soon, as those photos look great.

I find it hard to believe that the truck got hot enough to allow the cool water to break them.

You only have eleven post, why don't you ask to have your account deleted, and just start a new profile? Just a thought.....

I can't tell for sure, but the 4th & 5th look almost identical to me.
