Camo choices in Sierra vista az ?
BASS replied to ArcheryHunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I didn't know Lark used to live in Tennessee! I don't think it really matters what camo you wear. I have had good luck with the predator series camo patterns, but I'll wear just about anything out there. Like others have said, the Natural Gear will work in about 90% of the state pretty well. -
Nice photos, thanks for sharing them with us.

Nice! I need to get out and start shooting my bow more often. We were talking about trying for 'yotes tomorrow, but I doubt we are going to go now. But rabbits would be just as fun I think.

Don't forget, "we're in the middle ten year drought." I've been hearing that for the past fifteen years I think.
-
Hey nice photos, thanks for posting them. What camera are you using? How do you like it?
-
I always thought mid September or so. At least thats when I always went out to listen, and I plan to head out this year around that time too for some video and photos.

Welcome to the site! Where about are you?

What we use to do to get an older look on the metal was to heat it slightly with a torch to get some color and then take a very, very fine buffing pad to rub all over it to shine the outer (higher) metal and it leaves the lower (dimpled) metal the duller color. Same with any of the spray on products. I suggest you get a small piece of metal to play around with until you get the desired look and then transfer to the copper. I think that would give you the best idea of how it's going to work. Good luck! I can't wait to see the finnished product.

How to stop (or decrease) trail camera theft.
BASS replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Yeah that would work for you, I and about everyone on this site, but we are still the minority. Everyday I get the wonderful oportunity to interact with people who have had their butts thumped for wrong doing hundreds of times before. No change in behavior, heck one guy was even shot TWICE before for trying to get some guys car, and guess what; he was shot again. I like the idea about the business card with your number on it. My only concern is whether the thief will take the card too, or leave it as a scape goat as to who took the cam! -
Aha! Thats why I can't get drawn for anything any more! I'm a friggin' gear whore! I'm always buying something new. Time to stop that streak right now!

I'm with Bowsniper on this one! That looks like the side arm of choice for the border units. If anything else fails, you are in camo, and have a bow. I say you pop the sucker with a blunt tipped arrow first.

After that you're going to go chase smelly pigs? Nice Carp.

So with all this talk about turreted scopes, and long range shots I started thinking about what you all would be using for your custom load? Right now I'm pushing about 2760 fps out of my .300wm 700 action using 180 gr SP Hornady .308s using H4350 powder (lots of it on hand ) its pretty accurate out to about 800 or so. Thats about as far as we can shoot while still proned out where we go shooting. The only problem we're having is judging the wind that far out. Up close where it doesn't matter we can use the wind meter which also gives us a read out of the current temps, and humidity reading, but who know what those factors are across the canyons. Last night I got an e-mail from a guy in Texas that is going to send me about fifteen of the new Accubond 208 gr. .308s to load up and see how I like them. They are suppose to have a BC of over .5 which I like and they are heavy to punch out some more recoil which I don't like. Who knows, maybe next year instead of the 100 yard archery contests at the get togethers we should see who can hit 1K consistantly.

They were starting to bugle last weekend in the early morning. Nothing major, yet.

I got suckered...err elected as the club secretary for the Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club a few years back. Since then I've sold my jeeps, and now I spend the first thursday of each month listening to everyone complain about how slow a 60 year old military vehicle is, and why they can't go to an event they all thought was a great idea last month.

I have a 2200 and love it! But a guy at work wanted one (after using mine for a couple weeks). If you get a chance, please PM me those address' please.

Got one of mine in yesterday, washed it and am currently wearing it to a club meeting. These are great shirts! Not too thick to wear around the valley.

So that is where my tape went! There didn't happen to be a couple uniforms out there too... was there? Hmm. actually.... that's not a bad idea for a new dove hunting spot! "sorry sir, the dove arn't flying out here, we currently are investigating a very important 909, and will be 10-6 all day long." *NOTE* Any IA peeps out there reading I kid, I kid!!!

Was this pack on craigslist by chance?

I got caught tellin' lies about Jim the other day at work. I mentioned you're name when I was talking to another officer about the Elk you guys helped take, and got called out on how I knew you were the guide. Old Man Ken Monahan sends a friendly "hello" to you!

And some times getting closer is no longer an option. So why not drop that buck/bull/bear/lion/whatever then take a nice hike to go get em? Shooting long range makes you that much better of a marksman. Will I ever take a shot at a deer at 800? More than likely not. After the shot hits the animal and it starts to run, where will it go? Who knows. But will I take a shot at 500 with a spotter? You bet. It's all where you are comfortable shooting. Right now I know I'm dead on at 600 and mark that as my absolute farthest on a living animal. Now can I ring steel at 1000, yeah, but not good enough to try to hit a deer.

Trail Camera Question
BASS replied to huntswnm's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I once had a camera that had that option. Mine had a little loop on the top that acted as a locking point if you wanted to add a lock. But anyways, it also doubled as a view finder. It worked pretty well, but tossing the digi cam into my pocket just seemed easier than carrying that huge box, and the gianormous 6V battery. -
http://cals-cf.calsnet.arizona.edu/arboret...twalk/chart.cfm That's a start. Maybe a trip out to Boyce Thompson is in order?

Hope you all arn't planning on going up through Payson. The North Bound traffic was at a slow crawl all the way from about 3/4 up Rye Hill all the way into the 260 turn off.

Well the higher you go, the less dense the air will be (thin air) so there will be less drag on the bullet (resistance) meaning that the bullet will travel farther than if it was at sea level. That's a very basic explanation, and if you want to get really crazy about it... we can toss in the Coriolis Effect. More commonly known as the Earth's Rotation.
