  1. Mr. Hoss, I didn't see where the NRA endorsed any candidates in any state on THEIR web site, did I miss something? I would think they would have endorsements for THEIR candidate in every race in every state??? Maybe I missed something. They do a good job of playing politics here in Arizona to get THEIR commissioner in. I will be sure to give them all the credit for every vote she makes. She voted yes for the Commission to back Prop. 106, I will try to remember that.

    Air rest

It may possibly be a rest shot by target archers some day. I doubt it. Sometimes you just need a little contact as a reference point. Sure would be fun to try to tune with a medicine stone. I think some dude watched too many Star Wars movies and got his sword twisted?

    2004 bow face offs

Just teasing you. I always wanted a target bow myself someday, just never shot well enough to be seen with one. I prefer metalic purple
  4. I have been testing my hoyt for a couple years. It is a good thing for everyone to test there hoyt from time to time. I shot it for two years with a 6" brace height. I thought I would try to increase the brace a little and see what happens. I have a custom shoot-through riser set up as an ultratec. All the geometry was the same except we moved the limbs forward/handle back to change the brace from 7" to 6". With my draw length it also alowed me to go from a #7 spiral to a #8 spiral. The bow shoots really well but the shooter kinda sucks. It would be the same as creating a supertec with a 37" axle to axle and gaining a tad of draw length from the longer axle to axle. This was done with the XT2000 limbs. Since I got bored with that, I decided to try to increase the brace height to see if the sucky shooter could get better. Put some XT3000 limbs on it today. Ended up with an axle to axle of 40-1/4" and a brace height of 6-3/4". I am pleased with the way the geometry worked out. I did lose 7 fps. by making the change. As a hard-core speed idiot, I had hoped to keep it a little closer than that. My specs with the XT2000 limbs were: 60lbs. 369gr. arrow 293fps. My specs with the XT3000 limbs are: 60lbs. 369gr. arrow 286fps. Both these studies were done with a peep with the rubber tube. This takes about 5fps off a non-tube peep. 286 FPS is a good speed to shoot fixed blade broadheads. I have shot 350gr. arrows out of this bow at over 337 fps. Speed does not = accuracy. Fixed blades work. Now, if I can just get close enough to something to make a shot

    Opening Day Success

CouesUnlimited, Congrats man! That is a fantanstic animal. Not only is it huge, it is one of the most unique racks I have ever seen. All the points are remarkable and a 4 point to boot. I would score it as a gift from on High.

Now BowNut, are you sure you want to carry around a BLUE bow? Just because you have outshot the whole state don't mean people won't be asking questions about you. Glad to hear you didn't choose the pink one.

    Hoyt Ultratec

I have a 2004 camo RH Ultratec with XT2000 limbs and spiral cams. It is 30.5" draw length, 60-70lbs. It has 452X string and cables that are in good condition. I have shot it a fair amount and it is used but is in good condition. I am the original owner. It has the following items included: Almost new NAP quick-tune smart rest. Spot Hogg Real Deal sight 2-3/8" with 5 .019 pins. 4" Doinker. Hoyt 2 piece 6 arrow quiver. $450 for the package. I will sell the bare bow $350. I can send pictures if you PM me with your email address.
  8. Bob, We are coming close to joining Kalifonia in banning lion hunting. That is the first animal on their list of all.

    2004 bow face offs

I think that speed bow will be a big hit for them this year. I have had a supertec and my shoot-through has a 6" brace with XT2000 limbs on it so I don't need another one. With the reduced hand shock and recoil I think a lot of guys will be able to shoot that bow well. If my draw length was shorter than 30", I would get one. I didn't pay any attention to the target color bow, I only had camo on my mind. I plan to use it for hunting.

    2004 bow face offs

Hey BowNut, Bill O. was at the Hoyt dealer here in Tucson today with the line-up. Me ordered an XL. Best cam I have ever pulled. I also like the three options for let-off, hard or spongy wall 75 or hard wall 65. I was a little disapointed with the fps but at 31.5" I should have enough. I have no idea why they only bring 29 inchers when IBO is rated at 30". The way I cipher, I think they are 7-10 fps below the way they cipher it but I am not exactly a hooter shooter. I joked with them that I could lose 2 ounces by dumping the string grabber and the string silencers Time will tell. Don't worry Bobbyo, this dosn't mean I will give up my custom carver. Might even get inspired to begin carving again
  11. Kevin, it has been one of my favorite places. I started hunting there 42 years ago when I was eight. I saw your post and didn't say anything thinking someone would know what you were talking about.

    How Do You Practice

I am really looking forward to being able to practice tomorrow. Hope the wind is mild. I am at 17-1/2 yards shooting at a four inch circle. The program says I will be finished when I can put all my shots in a 3" circle at 20 yards. I really don't care if I ever get finished; I just want to shoot the bow the way it should be shot. I actually hope I never get finished and think I can shoot the bow. I hope it is always a work in progress.
  15. I just started a new program about a week ago. I watched all the video?s that Bownut left the link for with Randy Ulmer. http://www.bowhunter.com/bowhuntermagtv/BHTV_DOdescriptions/ I have had a problem with target panic and punching. I have always shot an index finger release. Now my brain, bow arm and index finger are all connected in a way I can not over come. I got a new thumb release to start the program with. I started out shooting at a 9? blank circle at 5 yards. I am trying to get the feel of relaxing my bow arm and HAND and squeezing the release so each shot is a surprise. I have practiced shooting 20 shots every day for about 8 days now. In the program you slowly move back 2.5 yards every 3 days and reduce the size of the target 1? each time until you are at 20 yards shooting at a 3? circle. I am still at 5 yards and will not move until I can do it perfect every shot for three sessions. It has taken some time to get use to the new release and get over all my bad habits. The best thing that has helped my practice is that a friend offered to come over and take pictures of my form. I thought for a minute, da, I have a video camera. I have videoed my last 4 practice sessions. Man, what an eye opener. I can watch every move I make, hit the back up button and watch how the bow moves or reacts on each shot, what my bow hand does, what my thumb does, how my release hand moves when the shot goes off, my total overall form etc? I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope to move back to 7.5 yards in a couple days. I wont be remade in time for the September hunts or be able to go to shoots until I am done but it is something I have to do. One other thing I have learned with the video, dang I am old, fat and ugly Some things you just can?t fix
  16. cmc [i agree I think word will get out that there are a ton of folks out there with rifles and in camo and they'll move elsewhere to cross. I believe the crossing season is starting its annual decline. Harvest have already begun up north and the drug folks have done theres down south. Most we'll see in a few months are the tuck loads going back home to pay bills with American coin they earned here tax free. Mind you all the while on roads that our tax dollars are paying for. Ironic to say the least...] I have to disagree with my friend. I believe with the weather cooling off the push is on BIG TIME. The Border Patrol and the National Guard will both tell you it is out of control...OUT OF THEIR CONTROL!!! Who's control is it in??? What will it take for people to wake up?

    2004 bow face offs

Think about this: It does not take much more metal in a blank to machine a shoot-through than a non-shoot-through. You could incorporate a sight in the riser that is totally protected in the sight window and does not extend beyond the front of the riser. You could use a rest similar to a nap 4000 where the arrow could not fall off of the rest within the window. You could have the back side of the riser shaped back in the rest area of the window so that the rest is totally protected (left side for a right hand shooter). For example, if you were a right hand shooter, all your adjustment for the sights would be on the right side of the bow between the riser and quiver. The left side of the bow would be totally protected. You could drop the bow on its left side and not touch anything. You could drop the bow on its front side and not touch anything. If you dropped the bow on the left side your arrows may be damaged but they would protect your sight adjustments and rest adjustments. With a shoot-through configuration any engineer should be able to calculate how to have a stiffer riser with less weight than a conventional riser. I think Hoyt’s rib is a waist of weight and that a simpler more balanced design would produce the same rigidity. The same shoot-through riser could be used with several different limb lengths and limb pockets to accommodate a variety of shooters. I forgot to say that the riser could also work for either left or right hand people. Look at the pictures of my riser again. It has all the same mount holes tapped on both sides. You could have different side plates or grips that scewed on for left or right hand shooters and there is really no reason to have a left or right hand set of cams because you have enough room to shoot either way with the same cam.

bobbyo, Its not that the recoil/shock is any different than any other conventional limb angle bow, its more that guys I know that shoot parallel for a while and then go back and try to shoot a conventional bow have a heart attack when the bow goes off and think the thing just blew up BowNut, You never know, I might be ordering me one. Next thing you know I might be getting my friend to carve a shoot-through riser for it

    2004 bow face offs

"Beautiful riser Dave. That brings me back to the 80 's. Centershot is obviously not a problem. I don't understand how you increased the brace height without changing the geometry. How did you move limbs forward/handleback? Did Hoyt make the riser for you or did you design it yourself? I really like that shoot through riser. Bob" My friend here in Tucson has been carving these shoot throughs for many years. We got together and ciphered what we wanted to do. Originally, we used the XT2000 limbs and the same geometry as the Ultratec as far as the axle to axle was 37", limb angle was the same etc.. In the shape of the riser we moved the handle back thus reducing the brace height from 7" to 6". All the other measurements stayed the same. Normally on a 2004 Ultratec with a 30.5" draw using spiral cams you would use a #7 cam. Since the brace height was an inch shorter in effect we had reduced the draw length to 29.5". This allowed me to use a #8 spiral cam to gain back the 1" and return the draw length to 30.5" using the longest power stroke cam Hoyt made. I don't think there is anything in the USA that will touch it that I am aware of. When I dorked around and put the XT3000 limbs on it what happened is that those limbs are 1-1/2" longer each and increased the axle to axle 3 inches and the brace height from 6 to 6-3/4". I also had to change the cam and go back to the #7 or the draw length would have been 31.5". I would like to shoot it for a while and see how I like it. I may go back to the XT2000 limbs and the #8 cam. The recoil and hand shock is noticable and I have been thinking hard about getting one of those new Vectrix xl's. The bad thing about that is I believe if I ever started shooting one, I would never be able to shoot this bow again.

    2004 bow face offs

missedagain, I have not hunted with the bow yet but plan on it. The only targets I really shoot are 3D other than practice and sighting in. When BowNut posts the pictures you will see it has target limbs on it now. It is hard to find camo in XT3000. My XT2000 limbs are camo. The shoot through riser is excellent for hunting. The first one I had around 24 years ago had the sight pins in the riser protected totally and a rest that you could pull the bow side ways and when you turned it vertical the arrow would slide down and center itself. I did a fair amount of crawling for antelope with it. Held it in my left hand with the string turned away from me and used it as a foot for that hand. The sight and rest were protected. I load it from the front. You get pretty good at it after a while. Started out trying to load it from the rear and soon found out that broadheads and bow strings don't mix. I don't want to talk about peep tubing, I hate it but I use it. Although it may sound custom, I can use the Hoyt tune charts and order my strings and cables knowing exactly what I will need and end up with. Yep, still sticking with the program. I am up to 17-1/2 yards and a 4" circle. Have made a lot of improvement but still have a long ways to go. azpackhorse, Sounds like you have a great set-up. The spiral cams also have a very short valley and a hard wall. If you creep just a tad, it will take it back. It does discipline you to shoot against the wall.
  22. Sorry Bob Shame on me.

    2004 bow face offs

When I figure how to make the pic small enough, I may be able to send one. Not sure where you came up with 80 KE? I shoot it at 60lbs., I have shot it at 70+. But go ahead and lets match anything you got. Apples for apples. I can shoot any arrow 28" long or longer out of this dinosore. Hoyt cant afford me, or to make a bow like this Dino Sorus I just wish I could shoot it well.
  25. I don't think all the people that have moved here from Kalifornia and New Jersey will agree with that. They have no clue of reality. After working in school district 13 down here in Pima County 30 years ago with Gabrials dad as a board member, I can't believe she is spouting the crap she does. She is greener than a gourd. All we need is her, Griljavelina, and sir Napolitano to save us. It is really a tough thing to have compassion for the souls that are dieing and save the American way that they all want to come to. You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere and Ms. G has missed the line. My name is dave and I approve this message.
