I have gone out twice since that nite. Looking at last years locations outside of the Coronado. One location was inundated with young cows and only a few deer tracks, one was almost dry with a dead cow in what little water was left, one the rancher turned off completely,two completely dry and one where I placed the only camera out there, sad very sad!!! WE NEED RAIN!!!!

After work I drove straight to my cameras to retrieve them before the Forest Service closed all access to them. I hiked in about a 1/4 mile to one of my cameras only to find I had forgotten one very important tool and had to return to my truck to get it (IN THE DARK). After getting this cam I had to get to the other side of the mountain to then clime a tree to get the last camera. This is only some of the shots from my three cams. I returned home with an empty stomach to a microwave with the same results, empty. I retired after eating four cookies and milk at midnight.

I would go with the Swhacker 100 with the two inch cut. This head was designed for Elk. I personnally have seen over 20 elk killed with it and all but one was dead within 100 yards. It will fly like a field point and get the job done!!

Thanks for the info I'll look in to it. I ordered mine off Cabelas, they were the cheapest ones they had. I think they were made for feaders. They arent the waterproof ones. I ran a bead of silicone on the seams, and they worked fine. Any 12v panel hooked to the battery will trickle charge it.

I need to get the solar panels for them soon. Where and at what price did you get yours? I was looking at the solar lights at Harbor Frieght that have the solar panel seperate from the light.

Coach, I got a question for you. I use a house 12 volt alarm backup battery for my cameras, do you think it is worth the money to get lithium rechargeable over the 12 volts I have now? The 12 volts are rechargeable and only cost me 15$ each. I'm gonna take a wild guess at 5-7 pounds. I do have a nice piece of steel that is perfect for a pivoting base. I don't know where it came from, but it is going to be really cool to make a box based on it. That will be in DIY Security Box II at some point in the near future. I'll probably use it for my Covert II, or Moultrie M-80. I've been testing the Covert II, Moultrie-80 and the DLC Covert CA 3.0. Overall, I like the DLCs a little better than the Moultrie based on their triggering distance and speed, but the Moultrie has one awesome feature that the DLCs don't have, which is the "plot-watcher" feature, where it doesn't rely on triggering, it just takes pictures at set intervals (seconds) and using the software provided, and you get a movie clip of the action. This is really good for watching a large area like a field or distant wallow, where the animals might not be within triggering range of the PIR.

TJ looks like we have the same problem, lost release! Maybe we should tie it around our necks, like our mothers did with the house key.

Coach; I must admit that design looks very good !!! How much does it weigh? My design uses hinges and is all welded with heavy chain for the tree strap, as well as a mounting bracket for the lags. Can you design a mounting piece so you can pivot the camera for off angles? Again very good design!!!!!!!

All I do is pop their heads off, peal the shell off of the tail and you can cook them like shrimp. If you are looking for more flavor you can sprinkle them with salt,pepper, paprika, chili powder and sauté them in butter. They are good either way.

I'll set the scene: Opening day Aug. 2010 and I am in the blind where I got pics of a bachelor heard of five. As day breaks II start seeing eyes at the tank, I grab my bow and get ready to stick the best coues I've seen in years. I just need a little more light, cows and lots of them. I 'am surrounded by cows, must be fifty or more. All day they stay in the fence of the water tank, even if the buck was to walk in I wouldn't have had a shot. Days two and three I chase two really good bucks in a nearby canyon. Day four starts out good with my spotting the same two in the same canyon. After one failed stalk I back out to my truck to get lunch and resupply. As I am sitting in the truck I see a deer in the back of the canyon, It is one of the bucks and then the other one steps out. (as if they knew I was back at the truck, no worries) I wolfed down the food got under a tree and glassed them for over an hour when I noticed a B.P. truck behind mine, I was being run through the system. After talking to thee Agent I readied my gear for the long stalk. After about two hours of slow stalking I was about two hundred yards from the boulder they bedded under. As I was standing there planning my final assault on the bucks I looked at my right hand, OH SH!# no release, it was back in the truck. It only took me 20 minutes to get back to the truck, as I unlocked the door it started to down pour. It rained for a half an hour, when it cleared enough for me to glass the canyon the bucks were two thirds the way up the ridge with no possible way to get even remotely close to them. 1st and last time I leave my release behind, I now have a spare in my pack.

Walker02 it is very clear you have a passionate side of you. It bight be better directed towards the decision makers rather than us.. We are very passionate about the outdoors and all it encompasses. We are all entitled to our opinion and you can certainly inject yours, but the name calling will ultimately paint all of us on this site as a bunch of uneducated heathens. Lets not give the anti-hunters any more ammo. 270, I believe I stated earlier that we should all get together and write the bearos with our concerns. In this letter we should take some of the front-line fighters ideas as to what needs to be changed with respect to fire fighting in our state.

cdenton, I would like to first THANK YOU AND THE OTHER "FRONT LINE" FIGHTERS. I know what you are saying as I worked the Bullock fire in Tucson. I was only in a supporting roll, as I kept the refrigerated trailers running and stocked. I saw first hand what a fire can put you guys through and I will always be in aw at the "TRUE GRIT" you guys posses. My comments was and will always be pointed at the decision makers that are politically motivated and not motivated consevationally. I know what it is like to be the "grunt" that doesn't see or hear the THANK YOU!!!!!! If my prior post has upset you or any of the other fire fighters I would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to you and the guys!!! The last time I worked with the Forest Service all I saw was three helo's at the Tucson Airport. That was right after the Aspen fire. The southwestern states all need to have several tankers based in them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as you stated. Maybe we all should write our congress and senate about the lack of brains in the Forest Service in our states.

I have no experience with this head, however you should try the Swhacker head. It flies like a field point even out at extreme ranges like 80-120 yards. It was designed for Elk and will perform beyond your expectations. You can get them at www.hankparker.com
