For a short while I was a Range Master at a local gun range. I can tell you from first hand experience that shooting can cause fires. At the range after several hours of shooting there is a build-up of unburnt powder forward of the shooting line. One nite that unburnt powder lit up like a Christmas tree and filled the range with smoke. Slow burning powder can land in some very dry grass or unburnt powder. I would say a less than .0005% chance of getting a fire started outside of a range where you get such a accumulation of "green" powder.

If you have a small digital camera you could put the SD card in you won't have to buy the more expensive cam. just review them on the digital camera. I have a small Kodak that is always in my pack to look at the pics on the spot. Doing this will also increase you battery life in the scouter. Good luck and happy hunting

Ya I was trying to talk my wife into letting me replace one of mine that just cra&&ed out. Oh well.

Last year I spent the first four days in the pines looking for some horn just didn't find him after seeing him the Tuesday prior to the opening. Definitely will try again this year. -

Thanks TJ for a small look into the great memories you have with your dad. I was fortunate to regain my relationship with my father a few years ago and had several good hunts and fishing trips since. HAPPY FATHERS DAY, to all fathers out there. This pic is from 2009, I was blessed with the task of guiding my dad on this hunt. Opening day we found ourselves in the car port under my truck with the front left hub in my lap replacing the CV boots. We was able to get out for the evening hunt. On day three we was graced with the presence of both my brother and my nephew. By 10am my dad had this buck on the ground and the hugs and high fives were everywhere. At 73 he still has a dead aim and gets the job done.

Elkhunter1 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
I was on Fort Huachuca today and had to stop working, I couldn't lock down the dish the clouds were so thick and the rain was coming in sideways. -
I wouldnt worry about the camera in that box!!! Someone may steel it and take it to the scrap dealer .Is that 12ga steel ? Yes it is. The box weighs about 25 lbs.

My cams are put at places that most hunters can and do find. All of my cams are locked down with boxes that I made (very heavy) "knock on wood" none have been taken yet, but you won't ever get that worry out of your head. Do the best, with the best you can afford and hopefully it won't get stolen.

During last Aug. bow hunt as I was driving up into one of my favorite canyons I came upon a vehicle in the middle of the road and two hunters sitting under a tree having lunch. After talking to them for a minute, they told me that the rest of their party was up on top looking for a 4x4 they spotted earlier. I spotted a good buck bedded under an oak tree just five minutes after getting to my glassing spot. This shot is through my 20x60's at about a mile away. After spending three hours climbing up to the top of the canyon I was about 150 yards from my target. I dropped my pack and started the sneak. I got to about 80 yards from the tree he was under when I found a three foot wide, three foot deep crevasse surrounded by decomposing granite. As I was contemplating my next move the good face wind I had stopped and the situation just got worse. As I tried to ease into the crevasse I heard what could only be described as a fart. After easing up to the rock outcropping I needed to get to, I peaked out around the rocks I was only 35 yards from the tree. The tree was still there but the buck was gone, I guess that "fart" noise was him snorting at me. NO SHOT TODAY. Almost four hours and about a five hundred foot change in elevation, all I had was a long walk to the truck.

I was up at my cams checking on them after two weeks out. I confirmed what a friend of mine told me, some one placed a camera between two of mine at a water hole and the drainage that feeds it. Does anybody know who puts a sticker on the cam box stating "wildlife research only." I am curious to know if this person had seen my cams and placed his anyway. My friend didn't know I had cams there and he found them! Not mad, just want to know who else is working the area. If you are or know who this cam belongs to please pm me for details and a friendly chat. thank you all who respond Elkhunter1 Stephen Forrest

Will this Aug. be better to me than the past.

Ya that year was good to me with a filled tag. I guess my over view was lost in the story of my success. If you add up all of the days out and all of the blown stalks, one lucky scenario out of dozens of failures, I was looking down upon myself. Thanks to you and the others for shining a light in the positive direction that I should be looking. -
+ 1 TJ My buddy and I was out placing my cams on Wed. We got a late start and we still saw nine coues with two being confermed bucks. All I can do now is wait two weeks to see if I got any good pics.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is just foolish. These are from my third spot.

I am hoping I can get him to stay close when I go scouting and hunting, I know he'll want run and chase anything that moves.

I really enjoyed all of your pics and comments. Last Feb. my Beagle had four pups, here they are, all are staying in the family. First is my boy Rhett. He is a true "RED" Beagle with green eyes This is the only female in the litter. Scarlett Next is the runt . his name is Jax. And last but not least we have Chunk. I can't wait to get Rhett out scouting with me, just have to get all his shots done first.

Ain't that the truth. About every three weeks I rotate my cams to other spots looking for that big KAHUNA!

After two weeks I went out to check my cams and what do I find? Does anybody know what agency uses the tag on this Jake?

Welcome to CWT. You have a good opportunity in Ft. Huachuca and the surrounding area of unit 35A. I have always wanted to hunt on Ft Huachuca but my ties to the military was not strong enough. I would talk to the military contacts on open areas on the Ft. before you put in for the rifle tag.
