    Most Useful Christmas Present?

My most useful present has to be my welder I got several years ago. I have fixed the security door, used it to weld my cam boxes, make some for others and a dozen other things.

    WARNING!!!

Out scouting yesterday for the last hunt of the year and I almost stepped on this little guy. Guys don't worry!!! This little guy is a Bull Snake (Gopher) Although my name is Stephen, I don't pick up poisonous things that bite. If this guy is still out the killer kind are also.
  5. Despite the rain and all the wind I had a great day chasing bone. At 7:30 I had two shooters less than 200 yards from me when two guys slammed on their brakes and pushed them down the canyon. Around 11:30 after circling down below where they were headed, and pushing several does I found my best find EVER. Placing it in my pack and sneaking into position to glass a Mesquite thicket I find myself being stared at by yet another doe. I reposition myself and set up to start glassing. Five minutes later I find the big shooter I saw earlier, bedded under a Juniper I looked at four times prior. The only problem, I can't find the smaller buck. Two hours later, cactus in my but, crawling, and scooting I find myself less than 100 yards from him still bedded. I move one foot at a time trying to close the distance when I find the smaller buck, the only problem he's also found me. He jumps up and runs past the big boy and they both get the heck out of Dodge. Now I am without a buck to shoot and at the bottom of the canyon, my truck is at the top. All and all I had a GREAT DAY. P.S. There is tomorrow and I know where the big boy is!!!! More to come.

    Family Strengths

UPDATED! I wanted to wait awhile to see how my latest business adventure faired. Well it has been about a year and a half and my business as a sub-contractor for Directv has had its ups and downs but all and all my family and I have survived all the long days and working 6 days a week. I can honestly say this job has me weighing in a whopping 35 lbs lighter and hiking higher and farther, "when I can." Again thank you all for the drive to challenge myself in all that I do.

    Dec rifle tag

I too will be out Friday, but using stick and string, trying to fill that tag. Got a line on a good buck and at least one smaller one. This Dec. is going to be harder than years past with the closing of 34A for us archers, had to develop my other spots in 33.
  15. This post has a lot of guys thinking. I can truly say that for me it's the excitement of finding, watching and then making a strategic plan of attack to get me in bow range. Getting there, holding off "Buck Fever," long enough to make the shot. I guided a good friend on his first Coues hunt during the first hunt this year. He was a Marine and is currently in the reserves. He told me on our first day, "I would rather go back to Afghanistan, this place bites, it all bites." I laughed and said, "Ya that's why they live here." On the fourth day he got it done on his own as I had to get back to work. He took what I showed him and got done. I believe he now has the BUG.

    Thank You Amanda!!!

Thanks Amanda; you got my purchase out to me in record time, just in time for me to try it out in the field while I am out scouting for the Dec. archery hunt. Will post new pics of the new sticker when I get time to install it, again thank you!

    The Red Ryder Buck

That is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. Your reflections brings back memories of my long ago childhood, as I too could tell what was in the box by a mere shake. Thanks for taking me back. Great buck!!!!!

    Leftover tag, meat buck

There is nothing wrong with that buck. You fulfilled both of your obligations; a filled tag AND you made your wife "happy, happy, happy!"
  24. Elkhunter1

    Possibly my dads last hunt!

It gets harder and harder every year to get him to put in for the tag. I think I will try to get him to put in for Bull Elk next year. At least up there the terrain isn't as rough. Thanks to all for your kind words and the opportunity post my memories.
