The last two days of scouting with my son have produced some great memories. We spotted some new animals and developed some good techniques my son can use on all future trips. He is getting better at glassing, he actually is finding his own animals. Today he spotted several Mule Deer. Here are some pics of the "first time" finds. This was dry two weeks ago, it is now about four feet deep now. We also found a lion kill that was only a few days old. Here is one of the tracks in the mud next to my boot. No claws and four front pads with ine main pad.

My buddy Bigorange asked my to make him a security box for his new trail cam, in exchange I got a High-Lift jack he had. Due to the smaller camera I had to rethink the mounting bracket. Here is what I came up with. What do you think? This bracket allows you to tilt and pan.

With the chain at 5ft and the locks around 20-25lbs I haven't weighed any of the models I fabricated. The weight depends on material thickness and overall size of the cam I need to fit in it.

Who's Not Afraid to Hunt Down South?
Elkhunter1 replied to John O's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
no i didnt, do you have a link to the story? edit: i found some old forum talk about it from other sites. well, i guess it just piss's me off to think i cant hunt down there due to illegal aliens and drug smugglers? i think you could could easily get in trouble down there. but i still go, its exciting. if i get killed maybe ill the one dead guy that makes them do something about how jacked up the border area is. also, if i was archery hunting down there id pack a side arm, i dont care if its not legal. i dont think law down there would either. no i didnt, do you have a link to the story? edit: i found some old forum talk about it from other sites. well, i guess it just piss's me off to think i cant hunt down there due to illegal aliens and drug smugglers? i think you could could easily get in trouble down there. but i still go, its exciting. if i get killed maybe ill the one dead guy that makes them do something about how jacked up the border area is. also, if i was archery hunting down there id pack a side arm, i dont care if its not legal. i dont think law down there would either. All archery hunters are able to legally carry a sidearm for protection in all units south of I10. I have for the past several years and will continue to do so. As for my not being scarred, I am every day I walk in those mountains. Scarred doesn't equal naive or complacent. Also I have some tactical training from prior employment opportunities. So having said that I will continue exercise my right to hunt where I want during what ever season I can. -
We too will pray for your full recovery and many more years together. Hopefully see you in the field!

Gotta have that helical, it sure makes a difference Without a doubt!

Two + weeks ago I ordered a Bitzenburger fletching jig with a right helical clamp getting ready for the up coming Deer season. I just got my new PSE Brute and a dozen new shafts that needed my touch to make them fly. I was sooo excited when it arrived only to hit rock bottom when I opened it to find the clamp was the straight one. I spent the next several days attempting to contact the seller without success. I was forced to file a claim with E-bay. They told me to return it for a refund. The next two days was spent searching several sites looking for another jig with the right clamp. I found a seller on E-bay that had two up for auction with FIVE days left on them. I decided to take a shot and contacted the seller with my story and a price I was willing to pay. He responded with a "heck ya it's yours" on one condition, I had to send photos of the buck I have been after for the last three seasons. I responded with trail cam pics and a note that said the money has been sent. He two day mailed it to me. SO!!!!!! I am sitting here writing this story in-between the fletching of my arrows with my new toy. The real happy point is there is still people out there that are willing to step up and help you when you are down. Sterrett Smith of Henderson Nevada is such a person, thank you! I will have time to shoot every one to check their flight characteristics before the hunt. Thanks again to Sterrett Smith!

Who's Not Afraid to Hunt Down South?

I have always hunted down here, and yes I have run into them in the past. I KNOW how to handle myself and am not afraid to hunt where and when I want. PERIOD! -
The Colorado River Toad is the one that can make your dog sick. That one doesn't look like the CRT. IMHO

Let me know if you hit the old stomping grounds and need an extra set of eyes. I'll be somewhere down south. After I check my cams on Wednesday I will be making up my mind and will let you know. Will you still be needing my tree stand if I go north?
-
New bow, new arrows, new Swhackers, new cams. I just can't decide if I will hunt my old stomping grounds or take ShedhunterAz's offer to hunt up in 23. Decisions, decisions, decisions dang it's hard!

I haven't had a Bull tag since I killed the one in my avatar in 95. And yes I killed him n 5BN. with stick-n-string. I would shoot the first 6X6 that gave me the shot.

It's hard to believe that he is getting as big as he is. Another two years and he probably could take me on. NOT that he would win. He is tall and already around 130 lbs. Both his grand fathers are tall 6"2 and 6"4. -

My dad has used 130grn hand loads for all the animals he has killed; Coues, Mule, Bear, Elk have all succumb to the mighty O3-A3. -
