Congrats to you son and to you for teaching him to stay with the animal he shot and Not the bigger bull, some guys would be tempted to tag the other one.

2/2, late November hunt
Elkhunter1 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Nothing wrong with that right there! -
I only bow hunt at this time, I would shoot! I am going to get an "OLD" rifle action and barrel to build around soon, then anything inside 600 will die.
-
Tj you better keep those rocks in you pack, they are for sure lucky. Congrats to a filled tag.
-
Glad to hear they have changed their position.

Yes you will shoot left when you get string drag. Try to find some over-sized rubber bands to put around your arm to compress your jacket sleeve. This might give you the clearance you need.

The only person I know or would trust is Cole at.... http://www.cmcskullworks.com/

Last outing I watched a Muley watching a single doe more than me, it is just barley getting started!

I was going based on past experiences, however after reading the regs I can't find anything that would suggest you can not hunt simultaneously with your friend. Years ago I know units up north were closed to other big game hunting during the Elk hunts as fare as the same unit goes unless you had an Elk tag also.
-
I was typing when this was posted. I do carry a lion tag with me as well. You should be fine. Most game wardens are understanding, I've yet been questioned. Now if you have one and it is open in the unit you guys are in then you could justify the rifle.
-
You would be considered to be Hunting right along side him. I asked G&F that very question and they responded that you can Not carry a gun capable of killing the animal that the season is open for, IE any rifle or shotgun with slugs or buckshot.

Did anybody watch the "Meat Eater" episode where he hunted Coues Deer. He took the heart and wrapped it with the fat from the buck and broiled it over the fire and sliced it up. I believe he had sautéed onions and bell peppers with Dobo sauce, that looked good.

My dad and I got up this morning with hopes of locating the covey of Quail I found last week while scouting for my Archery hunt next week. We got out to a spot I wanted to glass from before first light, as we sat there we reminisced about hunts past. I got out and started glassing towards the east, after about an hour glassing I turned to glass to the west and I found this guy. After fifteen minutes I spotted the doe he was intent on keeping an eye on. He was only 216 yards away, a slam dunk for a rifle. We soon moved on down the road to get to one of my cameras I placed last week. As we approached the area we spotted 11 does standing in the road. I checked my camera and returned to the spot I found the Quail. Although my dad and I didn't find the Quail we did limit out on Doves. Any day in the field with your dad is a GREAT day.

I don't believe your friend having a tag would make a difference in that scenario. As long as your father was still in the area, ie not back at camp.
-
If I understand what you said: your dad shot and tagged then walked out to the truck while you and your friends cleaned and packed out the Elk. From what I understand the definition of "transporting" is by vehicle from the field to your home or processor or across state lines.

Even stupid people are entitled to their opinion, though it will always be wrong.

When I was in High School I helped on a check point on Hwy 83. We had several "hunters" bring in the wrong animal, tagged and all legal. We even had a father try and stop his son from confessing to shooting a Mule Deer with a Coues Tag and leaving it out there. OK the boy made a rookie mistake, after all his dad left him alone to hunt by himself. BAD FATHER!!! The G&F officers and I talked about it and they decided to cite the father, not the son as long as they took us to the buck.

I like the red version!!!

I can't tell either, she is hiding her ring finger behind that massive rack!

You can NOT use any scents that contain natural cervine urine. From that rule they don't mention Synthetic scents.
