    Illegal Blinds/Hunting in Madera

Forest Service closed a 4 mile stretch of Reddington road in unit 33 to hunting. It is closed to discharge of any weapon including bow within .6 mile of the road. That's like 4 square miles... What part are you speaking of? I know there is a "No Parking" zone that is where the wild cat shooting was done around the 5 to 7 mile post. If you read the new signs and order they posted it states "no discharging any weapon within .6 mile of Reddington road" Thanks Lance, it has been since the 2013 hunt that I have been up there.

    34b javelina help

That unit extends out to the river east of the 90. I have seen Javi's on several occasions between 90 and the river to the east parallel to French Joe.

    Javelina: Field Care

Not to detract from what you have posted, it is very good advice. I would add what I do with all game meat, AGE it as your beef steak is done before it is sold at Frys or Safeway. If I have a whole pig it is aged 18 to 21 days in a clean garbage bag in a refer set to 34 to 38 degrees. I would age the meat less if it is boned, I would say around 10 to 12 days depending on the size of the cuts. Smaller cuts require less time before freezing. One I have the cuts made I then vacuum seal and freeze. I will not discourage any person from using a processor, BUT most wont age your animal unless you ask them to hang it before it is butchered.

    Jan. 2015 Javelina

Jan. 2015 Javelina is in the freezer! Butchered my opening day harvest today after work. I put my pig in the bag and in the refer at 35* The Swhacker severed her spine without any damage to the head, awesome broadhead!! I am eating backstrap as I am posting this..............AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is how you process Javelina so you don't "have" to make sausage or chorizo out of it. You can enjoy steaks and roasts this way!!!

    Have you ever messed up?

Opening day of the Aug. hunt found me atop a hill glassing the ridge I bedded him and a spike the night before. I watched them for over an hour before they bedded down in the morning sun. I made my game plan and executed it flawlessly even down to stepping on a doe and her fawn without spooking them. Prior to climbig out of the wash I picked an arrow out of my quiver, knocked it and I made it to the bush I estimated was 50 yards from the buck. I ranged him and he was 55. I waited for him to stand and when he did I drew back, settled the pin and released the arrow with the broadhead that only had dental bands holding the blades closed. I hit the big buck in the front shoulder and got NO penetration. The blades opened as it was released. I SCREWED UP!!!! I was supposed to use shrink bands. I never saw him again despite my efforts over the last two years. He is the biggest buck I have gotten the pleasure of stalking. I have screwed up every season on deer since.

fixed blade or mechanical broad heads ?!?

This is what one can expect from the Swhacker broadhead. Her spine was completely severed and the head is ready for the next unsuspecting TASTY big game animal.

    THIS ONES FOR YOU tjhunt2!!!!!!

Hope everyone that ventured out this fine day connected with their quarry. I was fortunate enough to get mine .As I sat less than thirty yards from a herd of Javelina for over three hours waiting for a shot on the big one I kept thinking about TJ and what had happened I thought that if I got one I would dedicate to TJ. As I was crawling to a shooting point amongst all the Ocotillos I heard a pig cough just to my right. I looked and under a Hackberry bush only 12 yards away to see movement. Now I can't move and there was no shot opportunity on any of them. The waiting game has started. Finally they start to move and mill around. Three juveniles walk right past me and into the bush and I ready the PSE as the big pig follows the others. She steps behind one last Ocotillo and I draw back and wait for her to step out.... SWHACK and she goes down. Pigs explode from everywhere, one pig runs right for me, flail my arms as the pig reaches the five yard mark and he stops short and makes a right turn then stops at fifteen yards and continues to woof and pop his teeth. I quickly move into position to put a second shot into the wounded pig. This was a great day afield, snow on the ground and pigs all around.

    THIS ONES FOR YOU tjhunt2!!!!!!

I have been eating "horse" pills last two days and the swelling has started going down and the stripes are receding. Now my hand has started to hurt due to it has started to heal. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts, who would have thought a simple house cat could cause soo much pain. At least I can still chase deer in Aug.
