I guess they did change it to only R-100 requires a guide. You will see a bunch of 70-80" bucks like was said in a previous post but the big boys are there and they usually won't come out to rut until it is in full swing or even toward the tail end. When the rut starts on the rez you will see all the little bucks chasing does around for 10 days to 2 weeks or so and when the does become receptive they will appear from out of no where. It is frustratiing when the little bucks are the only ones moving but just have patience and give it time they are there and they will show up. Two years ago I was hunting on the rez on opening weekend for three days in a pretty small area and never saw a buck over 90". I gave it 8 days and came back to hunt the same area and saw 5 bucks over 100" and ended up killing a 111" buck. They were there opening weekend they were just not moving. The second trip was a whole different ball game.

I am almost positive that you have to have a guide in both D units and R-100 unit. Better check into that and make sure you don't need a guide. As far as deer go I would not shoot the first 90" buck I see by any means. You have some good potential of shooting a buck over 100" for sure. I have seen a few bucks in the 120's come out of there in recent years from some tribal members. I have never hunted unit D only B, C and R-100 but D east is pretty small compared to the other units and there are deer all over it. Just keep glassing and moving from point to point glassing non stop and if you put your time in you will have a good chance at killing a real good buck. If you are interested in a guide I have a few friends that are tribal guides that would help you out for a few bucks. Hope this helps.

First Bull of 2010 Down For Team Mullins
matthewp45 replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Elk Hunting
Man that thing is a freak of nature. The thirds are unbelievable. Congrats to the Mullins. -
Just take it over to Greg at Trails End Taxidermy. He will fix you right up . All kidding aside I would just freeze it and take it to a reputable taxidermist and they will skin it the right way to prevent any unecessary sewing. That would be the safest way to do it.

"The Wierdo Bull". I don't think I've ever seen those traits in a bull before.

Mearns are getting wet...
matthewp45 replied to scoutm's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Down here in Yuma I have been seeing some unbelievable hatches of Gambel Quail. I have been seeing tons of couvies that have 50 or more birds. I have not seen this many birds this early in my 31 years of living down here in the desert. Come on begining of October. -
I got drawn for deer and pheasant baby! Good Luck

Shoot him with your bow and you tell us. Can't wait to see the pics with you behind him.

My one and only antelope to date. I shot him in Craig, CO in 2006. I have a unit 1 archery antelope tag on the 20th of August. Hopefully I will add another one to the wall.

My whole family will have you guys in our prayers. I will put you on the prayer list at church as well. I really hate to hear these stories about cancer effecting families the way it does. I do not know what I would do if my son were to get cancer. May god be with you and answer all of our prayers for your son. With everyone's prayers he will be fine and hopefully kill a 120" coues deer.

Maybe not a sherrif but I think I remember a time when someone got pulled over by a San Carlos Game Ranger hurrying to get up deer hunting. . That was pretty funny. I think that was the same day I tried to shoot a deer with out a bullet in my gun. I will pitch in $20 for ya.

We are talking about hunting situations not bench shooting. As long as you can keep all your shots in the kill zone at any yardage it is sufficient enough for any hunting situation. Some people get really anal about their stuff but the most important thing is knowing your limitations. Usually out passed 600 or 700 yards even with a bench rest sub MOA rifle an average shooter does not have the skill to make an ethical shot on a deer size animal. That is why you must practice like crazy and be able to make those long shots every time at the range before you even think about shooting at an animal.

As long as the readings are staying within 50-75 fps of each other for each load you are fine. I usually just take the average of a 4 round string and all of my turrets have been very accurate. As said before put it out at about 10 feet from the muzzle. I have a model that cost a little over a $100 and it works great. Never had a problem with it.

I finally got my December muzzle loader desert carp hunt. Yessss! 190" or bust! Maybe 180"!

I think I have about 6 CWT shirts that I where all the time. My wife asked me last night why don't you have any red ones or blue ones which are great colors for t-shirts. My question for Amanda: Can we please get some red or blue or both color shirts in long sleeve and short sleeve? If you do I will take 3 of each color in long and short sleeve. Just a suggestion! What do you guys think?

When you get the scope all ready to go and you have your load done and dialed go ahead and zero your rifle exactly at the distance you want your zero to be. If you already have it zeroed when you get your turret all you have to do is put it on and line the zero up with the line on the scope and you are ready to shoot a long ways.

I say 102 7/8" and 104 7/8".

No hair and looks like the bugs got the meat taken out too. Thats cool to find an elk already made into a european mount by mother nature herself. Great find.

You won't ever regret it. I love mine and wouldn't use anything else. The turrets are as simple as it gets to install and adjust. Just loosen 3 small screws and replace or adjust and tighten back.

I don't care if I have to pay $50 bucks for 1 red and $50 for 1 blue it would be worth it. Then we could take some pictures with my wife wearing them and you would have a flood of orders. Maybe try some camo too. I am serious though I would pay the higher price to just get a couple of shirts to see what everyone thought and if they like them you can order them and if not you aren't out any money and I have a couple cool new shirts. I know you can mess with the T-shirt design thing but it isn't the same as having it on a real person.

Does the VX3 have the focus adjustment knob on it. The Mark 4 has a knob on the side that focuses your scope just like your binos. If the VX3 doesn't have it I would go with the Mark 4. It makes a big difference at long rang to be able to focus it clearly on the target. Also does the VX3 come with the 30mm tube. I think the 30mm tube allows more light in and helps at last light shots. The Mark 4 comes with a 30mm tube.
