I was mistaken on units. Sorry bad advice listen to the Koury guides. It always seem so easy looking at a map at your house in the A/C. The one piece of advice I do know about this area is if you see a beautiful ram opening morning that you would shoot half way through the hunt but you want to hold off because there might be a bigger ram in the unit. Just take the ram. I knew an Alaskan guide by the name of Brian can't remember his last name but when a friend of mine who hunted with him in Alaska dropped him off opening morning they glassed a ram they all guessed would definitely go over 170 and gorgeous but he passed it up because he had talked to some people and seen some pics of a ram around 180. So he went on to hunt 26 more days and killed a gorgeous 10 year old ram that was mid 160's and that was the second biggest ram he saw. He did miss 3 days being picked up to take a shower re-supply and sleep in a real bed for a night but still that is a

After the monsoons settle down if you want to know what kind of Rams are in the area get your cams up while they are still rutting, it's still hot and all the little natural holes are dried up. It will show you a lot. Not everything but you may have a monster that likes to drink there and have something to look for. Congrats on the tag. Guaranteed this won't be the last sheep hunt u go on. You will be a junkie and just beg people to let you help out. I caught the bug a few years back and I watch the sheep in this unit year round. They are so cool and crazy as heck to watch some of the things they do. Enjoy your tag to the fullest. Good luck hopefully you will be sitting behind a nice 10 year old beautiful ram that you love the looks of because that's all that matters.

Don't knock it until you try it. I would also recommend some of the Merino wool long Johns from Sitka or Kuiu. You will never try another. They are so comfortable it is actually a pleasure to wear them. When it is time to turn it into high gear and get after something it changes from keeping you warm to keeping your body at a normal temp. It actually does wick away the moisture just as the other guys claim and don.t wick a thing away. Also you can wear the same set for a week and it will hardly smell at all. Just go try some on and check it out

Red Horns? Thats crazy, Desert Sheep Don't have Red Horns! Oh those ones that rub on that stinky elephant bush. Beautiful! There are some a lot more red than these two. Just thought it was a cool pic from my trail Cam.

+ 2. Not a real fan at all. I can't believe such a big bad hunter would even consider E scouting. I had a personal run in with him and man am I holding my tongue. Oh well. To each his own. This is just my personal opinion please don't start getting upset if you are friends or think he is a great guy you are entitled to your opinion as well. Either way that is a big feat taking a ram that big with archery equipment.

I am pretty sure they only take the first two choices for max bonus point holders. If I repeated some info I am sorry I did not see the second page.
-
From talking to someone that has very reliable information, there are around 150-180 people that applied last year that had max points. A real close family friend dropped his name in the bucket for the 45th year in a row with out getting drawn. In the sheep draw the first thing they do is take all of the max bonus point holders and put them all in the draw first. Then they draw 20% of all the sheep tags so probably 19 guys out of 150 will get a tag. Then once 20% of the total tags are drawn they put all of the rest of us in for 80% of the tags. It will take 8 or 9 years for all current max bonus point holders to be drawn and i believe it is somewhere around 25 or 26 bonus points? (do not quote me on those numbers) Once all of those are drawn then it goes down to the guys that currently have one less than max points and God only knows how many that is. So even if you have 20-22 bonus points you will be in the exact same boat as somebody with 1 bonus point and it could be 30 years before they get to your bonus point number at age 33. I think I would wait until I got drawn before asking about Outfitters because you may have a long time to go. Sorry I am a nerd and studied up on this because sheep are the ultimate to me. Good luck in the draw.

Happy Birthday and thank you for all your hard work. From the guy who donates a Yeti cooler to the AES Banquet every year. You guys have always been very gracious and super nice. Hope you have a great day.

There are no lions in there, well maybe a couple but I think they all walk in a straight line 24 hours a day 7 days a week. That is very rugged terrain I would highly suggest not to hunt alone. Beautiful place. But as I have heard many times before "Even in an area that has tons of lions sometimes it may take 10 days just to find one 6 hour old track. Good luck and be safe.
-
That is the same lion in all the pics except the bottom one and the only way anyone could ever get multiple picture of a lion in the same place multiple times in two or three days is if it is eating on a kill and I agree the kill is on the right hand side. I am sure you set the camera up on the kill after you found it which is totally legal and a great way to get pics but what does that cat have buried up for dinner there? Looks like a javelina.

youth pheasants ( mounts)
matthewp45 replied to tomgobbler's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yawl thinks that is a bad a$$ mount. Yawl thinks when he gets drawn for pheasant again Yawl wants something just like it. That is the best pheasant mount I think I have Ever seen. Yawl really likes it Tommy :-) -
By the way there are some good sportsmen on the advisory board, one of them happens to be my step dad and he has more political clout than any person on this or any other forum in AZ and he is workinng his tail off along with the others on the advisory committee to keep the people who know our wildlife system and what is best for it "sportsman" like all of us, on that board. He warned people about the SFW when the lady started it but they wouldn't listen and look where it is now. He and I have donated tons of time and money helping every where we can and he has spent a lot of his time making sure the right people stay or get elected to certain positions but he is only one man. If any of you have anything bad to say about him you tell me when and where. There are good people working hard to keep everything headed in a good direction. Here is a great idea. Instead of bitc(*&* and complaining like a bunch of old ladies get your fat buts off the computers and get out and do something about it. Stop hiding behind your computer.

First one I am getting rid of because I ordered one to take its place. Why, I don't know but I like new guns. It is a 7MM RUM Remington 700 XCR. It has Cerakote on the entire gun including the custom Talley bases and rings. The trigger has been worked on and is now a crisp 3 pounds and is has no slop at all. Also I had a Belle and Carlson Medallist Stock with an Aluminum bedding block and has been bedded. It is topped off with Leupold Vari-X III LR/T with side focus and target turrets. I have a Kenton Industries custom Turret for shooting 160 grain Accubonds at 3,350 fps out to a 1,000 yards. It works very well. Shoots under an 1" 2 shot group. By the third and fourth shots are about 1.25" because of the 90+ grains of powder being burned each time the trigger is pulled. Probably about as good as a 7MM RUM gets. I have about $1,800.00 in the gun and it has about 110 rounds through it. I am selling it with the scope and turrett and recipe for the round that works exactly with the turrett. I will take $950 for it. Scope is 4.5X14X40 with 30mm tube. Next is a S&W 44 Magnum with 5 1/2" Barrel. It has exactly 12 rounds through it. I bought it 3 weeks ago and after shooting that monster I figured my 45 was just fine. I think I paid $675 for it but if anybody needs a Monster pistol they can have it for $550. I still have reciept and Christian (azcouesandelk) sold it to me at Bass pro a couple weeks ago. The last is the prettiest. I am selling my Browning 625 Over and Under Sporting model 20 gauge. Comes with six chokes, two different triggers and a couple different sights. It will come with two skeet chokes and one is a Briley that I bought for it when I use to shoot a little skeet with it. I never use it any more. It has 30" barrels and is ported. Beautiful gun. Paid right at $3,000 for it 3 years ago and I will take $1,500 for it if anybody wants it. Just pm me if anyone is interested in any of these guns.

The 7MM RUM and the S&W 44 Magnum are sold. SO I HUNT got the rifle and Mikea81 got the 44 pistol. Just to make sure evryone is up to date. The shotgun is still for sale. Thank you all for your time.

Here are the pictures of the Browning someone asked for. I am sorry for the delay, as Ernesto said I am really busy at work and don't get on here until late so email me if you have any questions because I will get it much sooner. Sorry for the inconvenience. matthewp45@aol.com My feet don't come with it. Sorry for getting my nasty feet in the last pic:-)

I don't if you have ever been lion hunting before but if you haven't you are one of the luckiest men around. Usually the houndsman, dogs and the hunter work their asses off for days trying to cut a 8 hour old track. It can be frustrating or in your case easy as pie. I am a little resentful because I have yet to get mine and I have been out with 8 good dogs that have caught a ton of lions and a great houndsman with some great horses in great country. Nice job and great looking cat.Congrats

First bobcat on the last day
matthewp45 replied to bowhuntaz1's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Those cats sure aren't the cute cuddly ones people have at home. I have choked out a ton of cats. All of them on leg hold traps. My good buddy Tom Gobbler and I were checking a line and we had caught a giant Tom. He was in no way a happy camper. He was a little upset. In fact he wanted to get us so bad he backed up to the end of the chain and ran straight at us and when he hit the end of the chain he stretched the spring straight that allows the chain to give so it won't break any bones and pow cat goes crazy. He had so much anger and strength when he hit the end of the chain that brand new spring, which I couldn't stretch out was straightened and it and broke his femor in half he had so much power. After that it was tough to choke him out because he was going crazy but he fetched $475. Looks like you did a great job choking him out, usually you see hair stripped from people geting the loop in the cats mouth or just around the muzzle. Great job on a great cat. Just keep it up and you will be making some good money. Anyway enjoy trapping as you already know it is a lot of fun and there is always something new to try. Also you can make some extra cash with the hides at some of the auctions. I believe we took the class together to get our trapping licenses. Don't forget to fill out that report now. Take care and have fun. -
There are no skulls in the Kofas. But you wouldn't believe the amount of sheep skulls found in 41 just a few feet from the Kofa borderline. Craziest thing you ever seen. Since the Kofas are a National Wildlife Refuge every skull you find in there can not be taken out legally. But those lions always seem to drag those things just over the line into 41. Craziest thing you ever seen.

Happy Birthday my sheep hunting partner. I hope you got that purple 1972 Chevy Luv you have been waiting so long for. Enjoy your birthday. I got you a stick for your Birthday. Your going to need it to beat the girls away when you pull up to school in that purple Luv machine.

My VERY COOL buck from Mexico
matthewp45 replied to Ernesto C's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
That is one of the coolest bucks I have ever seen. I would rather have that buck than a 125" typical. I love the trash everywhere. You killed a trophy of 10 lifetimes. I am heading up to Mogollon taxidermy on Thursday and you have got to send it to Clay to get a high quality mount for that thing. I will pay for it if I have too that thing deserves to be on a wall pedastol or something really cool. Congrats on a huge stud of a buck Ernie. Nobody deserves it as much as you my friend. Way to go. Good job. "You are the Man" -
Just got back yesterday from a great but short 2 1/2 day coues trip but I did come home with a beautiful buck. Thanks to Christian(azcouesandelk) and Randy for helping me out. My wife has a family member with a terminal illness and I had to leave yesterday by 10:00am. Randy glassed up a nice buck before you could hardly see. After about five minutes of looking at him and Christain with his Jeti mind trick scoring we decided he was a mature 90" buck and as it got lighter you could see he has brown, black and white spotting on his chest. He is gorgeous, just a beautiful buck so I get setup for the shot and shoot off my Bi-pod and they said you hit 3 feet right. He was a long ways away but this gun does not shoot anywhere but dead on. I look through the scope andright away I knew what my mistake was. My crosshairs were canted to the right pretty bad. So after I leveled it I shot and whop hit himand he went over the ridge. We went around to get an angle to where we could see him and found him out in the sun not feeling well so I leveled my crosshairs this time waited until he stepped out and put that bullet exactly where it needed to be and he folded and rolled down the hill. I had gotten it done but only with the help of my coues hunting buddies Christain and Randy. Thanks guys. The buck is such a beautiful buck and has an awesome story I will remember forever, which is why he is going on the wall with all my other beautiful bucks with great stories. Thats the reason we mount them right, so that we can sit in the room they are displayed in and remember each hunt and remember how much fun you had with family and friends and the stupid things you did or the unbelievable things that happened. I cherish each one of my mounts and can't wait for the next one. I will post the pic I have but Christain had to do his famous 1 hour photo session so I will let him post his favorites of the 60 or so pics he took. Thanks to Amanda for her company on the first day as well. It was nice to get out in the coues country with you again. Looking forward to the Banquets. Matthew

It wasn't the gun this time it was me. I was prone using a Bi-pod and solid as a rock but I forgot to level the crosshairs. I had it canted to the right pretty bad.
