Winchester Model 70 Improvements
matthewp45 replied to Faster Daddy!'s topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
A real good friend of mine has three safes full of model 70's that all shoot great. That is his hobby is to get model 70's and get them to shoot very accurate. Usually if the gun is not shooting well it only takes a good beading job, a trigger and the right load. He has yet to buy one that he could not get to shoot under an inch. You can make your gun shoot no problem. -

I had White Cloud Gunsmith in Phoenix do it. I will get a picture of the finished product up pretty soon. -
My real dad was a maniac hunter like I am, although I only got to hunt with him for 8 years ( he passed away when I was 8 years old from cystic fibrosis). We hunted deer every single year and I never missed a day out in the field with my dad and grandfather. We would wake up at 4AM every morning and make a huge breafast and set off to glass all day. My dad was an awesome glasser and even at my young age he would always make sure I got to see the animals through his binochulars. He was a true outdoorsman, did not care about the scores just enjoyed being out in nature hunting and hanging out with his family. It has been 22 years since he passed and I swear those memories of hunting with my dad are the most vivid and valuable memories I have in my head. He spent every last minute he could with me because he knew they were limited and he made sure they were memories I would remember for the rest of my life. So next time you are headed out make sure to take a young kid out with you. You will never know how much you are doing for them. I have two kids of my own now a 3 year old and a 6 year old. I try as hard as I can to spend as much time possible out in the woods with them. You never know when your last huntin trip may be. You only live once so live your life to the fullest while you are here.

I had the same rifle in a 270 WSM. It shot 1.5" groups stcock. I put a new McMillan stock on it and had it beaded. Put a new timney trigger at 2lbs. Also had creakote put on it for the weather. Had them clean up the action a little. Now it shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Looks a lot cooler too. -

Oh man that is going to be a great day for me and my kids. I have 4 more years for my daughter and 6 more for my son. My daughter is already bugging me about dove hunting everyday and it is still a week away. I will not be able to go dove hunting with out her or I will be in big trouble. It sure makes my hunting great to have my kids with me.

I really wish we only had one measuring system. I am sure it was probably the closest official measurer he could find. He probably wanted to make sure he wasn't loosing it because he wasn't believing his math. I think we should change to a water displacement method. Place the antlers in water, in an official container all the way up to the bases. However much the water rises due to the total mass of the antlers and a width measurement. -
Sounds good. I saw 4 roosters this morning checking some cotton down there.

Hey Biscuits I see it's your second post. If your gonna be negative mad guy why don't you not make a third. A huge congrats to the hunter and the great crew guiding him. The Mullins team are the most honest, hard working, humble, knowledgeable and just all around great guys you would ever meet. They are out there for their love of hunting and nothing else. They have worked their tales off the whole summer for their clients and they deserve every monster bull they get. A huge congrats to the hunter on an absolute giant. Hopefully Chrissy will send me a picture of another giant from the raffle tag holder in the next few days. -
That is another great mount! Congrats!

What weird stuff have you glassed or happen well glassing for game?
matthewp45 replied to seek100plus's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I was glassing a couple weeks ago and kept noticing these white branches coming off the ground waving back and forth. I finally stopped with the glasses to look at it because it was out of place. Upon I a better look it was two snakes mating. I made my way down to where they were and watched to Mojave rattlers do the nasty for a while. They were standing 1.5-2 feet off the ground. They looked like cobras. It was a freaky thing to watch.
