this summer was super wet, almost 10 inches of rain on average along the huachucas, they're still getting rain up to now so there should be plenty of water in oct
-
Because they're the most vulnerable deer after the rut I did have a job over the summers working as a camp counselor...even though i crushed my knee...i still got paid for the whole summer, I was never a spender until recently

Rifle Range around Sierra Vista
elkhunter replied to Deadeye Productions's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
there's one on the way to bisbee, it's on highway 90 I believe and it heads east. Just get on Fry Blvd and drive straight east past san pedro river and the turn off is to the right and there's a white pole and if it's open then there will be a red flag on it. Hope that works, if not...head down close to the boarder and unload some shells for practice...the shots is sure to keep a few illegals from coming over -
I rather chase girls around

no job for me....I like to call it this, ditch the bitches and go hiking, that's how i do it!

my best day was a couple of rabbits, a doe and a covey of quail....nah I just don't remember the exact numbers...but it would have to be recently during Jan where we chased two different herds of pigs in one day and got to see ruttin deer all over the place, bucks galore!!!

those canyons get hit pretty hard year after year by hunters...i suggest you to try else where if you can...or hike all the way up the canyons away from everyone and you might see a spike or two

But that picture came from Ft. Huachuca, if you have 35A tag then you're no good hunting within ft huachuca...sucks!

I saw the picture of the buck you took this past season and it reminded me of a lion kill pick up I have, it's pretty close to your buck, big ole forkhorn

The biggest difference is that the Swaros are the best you can get...once you buy the Zeiss (like I did) then in the back of your head you'll always remember that you just don't have the best binocs available. So that's why I got myself a pair of Swarovski's this summer Right now my old man has my Zeiss and when we go out to glass, I notice a pretty decent difference between both binocs in field of view, brightness, clarity, comfort, weight and focusing easiness....we glass right at sundown so the brightness makes a difference in that case. But if it was midday there wouldn't be much difference between the bincos. Lets just say the difference between the Zeiss and Swarovski is the same as the difference between a 80 inch buck and a 95 inch buck...not much difference BUT you would much much rather have that 95 inch buck! The Zeiss would work best for people who are concerned about weight.

The roads are wiped out in my area BUT I LOVE IT, i say we need another 6 inches of rain....the wildlife is far more important than "hunters access" besides those quads go everywhere anyways

We got hit by a little rain storm yesterday and I headed up in hope of finding the bear and cub I saw a couple days ago and ended up with 32 deer instead and a herd of javelina, unfortnately it was low light and the pigs were in knee high grass and well over 1500 yards away it's kinda tough to view them but I atleast got pictures of 2 dink bucks and sunset pictures This spot ain't no secret so if you guess it right...head out there cuz there's tons of deer in this area and I can't hunt em here's the pics of the pigs...hope you can kinda see em with my markings The pigs were in the red circle in this picture

elkhunter replied to AZP&Y's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Tha dude knows everything!! I spoke with him and he offered glassing lessons to me as well and I asked him if he could give me the lessons in my unit during my Dec hunt....he turned me down but anyways a great guy...by the way does he still have the long hair? -
I got one of them, they randomly selected people from the fall draw and sent out the survey to them...if you didn't get it then you didn't get picked no biggie

I always hunted coues in the oak/juniper hills, but this year I'm off to a new unit. On my scouting trips we're locating most bucks in the mesquite flats and not too far from them are ocotillio covered hills. I read about bucks taken from these ocotillo hills, are they there in the october seasons just as much as they're there in december? Right now I glassed up a few bucks feeding on the super green leaves on these ocotillo, will they still be feeding on these leaves when they die off later into the fall? Thanks for any help, it's a whole new ball game for me in the lower desert areas!
