Overridden with the Need for Accuracy?
elkhunter replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
As long as it's a kill shot, hittin a deer in the heart aint all more fatal than double lunging him...nor hitting the spine, if it puts the deer down fatally then it's good enough But again it's good to have confidence in your rifle, say you have .5in groups at 100 yards and a coues buck walks by at 107 yards...you'll have all the confidence in the world Controling yourself during a shot is a different issue, .5in groups doesnt mean much if you can't control yourself enough for a shot, even at 100 yards or less, I've heard stories of missed elk at 25 yrds with rifle/muzzys and got to witness myself some close missed shots on elk with rifles (40-80yds) this question can be answered in many right ways, each to their own and whatever works for each hunter -
Congrats to the kid and the Mullins Crew By the way- is Ian deaf?

elkhunter replied to devinv's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
great bucks on the west and south side of huachuas and if you're lookin for a trophy buck go to mustang mtns, be prepared to see no bucks for a few days and a trophy will pop out when ya least expect it or just about given up, don't even bother hunting canyons close to herford and SV unless you're a meat hunter or hike wayyyy up to the very top, good luck -
Born and raised in Elgin and Sonoita, started huntin pigs and deer at the legal hhunting age, I still hunt the same place I grew up hunting

I need to get married incase my swaros get busted up

most of us started killin rabbits before legal age of 10 and most folks started big game at the legal age of 10, gotta start early or years of fun is wasted

Agree with Ndaniels, my sister shot them for a while and the blades seem thin and fragile and would bend or chip while shooting at a brand new foam block, it also got bent the heck out of it when my sister shot her javelina through a rib bone..but granted they did fly good. I see alot of positive reviews on Shuttle T's, often wonder if my sister has bad luck with em

Working here in Alaska with Salmon and watching those sitka blacktail deer and grizzly got me bored (sorry GRONG), I done looked at all the pages of coues buck in the photo gallery...however I know there's a bunch of bucks that aren't on the photo gallery and I know ya'll got lots of bucks. So post all the pictures of coues bucks you guys have gotten, from AZ, NM or mexico...lets see em all, pics of kids, wife, husband, friends, family with their coues buck, post away and get that fire started for this fall season.

Hm here's a right antler that looks alot like the one you want to find the matching side for, both antlers have that flatten royal and long 3's but ther's no kicker off of this shed in the picture The royals look the same here The shed in the picture is from a set, the other side wasn't as big as the one in the picture...I believe this set is from the early 90's...is it possible its the same bull?

I agree, ft huachuca is full of animals and some folks complain there's too much hunting. Those are some nice bears, I've seen 2 bears in 35A and both were solid black not light brown color. Good pics, thanks.

You were out where I was born and raised, good looking pictures.

Birthdays!!!
elkhunter replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks! firstboozewas80proof- it's not your birthday so I would stick with the lable "great people" I'm enjoying work in Alaska, been flying in a bush plane to different hatcheries and working with all sorts of Salmon, they'll be running soon..and that's when the real work begins. Tonight i'll be in Sitka getting drunk with local fishermen and off to work again Sunday, I sure do miss Arizona. -
Hey congrats Ryan, that's a nice looking bird...take care

I know there's alot of negatives about the draw only archery tag....lets look at the positive Have you guys seen the kind of bucks that are killed during archery seasons? I worked at AZGFD this past summer and during the archery season...a huge majority of bucks brought in were spikes. Hardly anything bigger than a forkhorn came in. I'm going to assume that the archery draw will create an older class of bucks for the following years to come, that'll help out the buck age class in 7

I had a friend on a float tube at one of the bass lakes north of phx, a rattler was swimming in the lake and was coming towards him, thinking that he was "land' and he said he swatted at the thing with his fly rod and use his flippers to get it to go away, finally the snake turned away They're coming out, I've had some real close encounters lately and I'm deaf so it gets quite scary when I think I'm coming up to one soon
