Amanda- you're right it's an average size herd but back in 2004 it was only 4 pigs large and now gotten up to 11, hence the reason why I mention it has grown into a nice size group

Great story and an awesome buck! Huge congrats to your dad from the Weiss Family

In my exerience of using that call in the last 8 years of archery javelina between my dad and I (15 pigs total), the j-13 works BEST when you're within 30 yards of the herd, I found that outside of 30 yards they know it's not coming from a pig and they'll question whether a herd member is hurt or if it's a person. If you're right ontop of them it works great, making stands and dry calling does not work great, once in a while you'll call them in but MOST of the time you won't, all you are doing is educating them to stay away from the calls, use it when you need it...javeilna hunting ain't like coyote hunting

The year started off with some scouting and some nice bucks being located. Our hunt started Saturday morning with a steep hike up the mountain in the dark and we glassed for a few minutes then a buck was located prior to shooting light, I quickly moved closer around a ridge and the buck was still feeding in the same spot, I got setup and pulled the trigger at 232 yards and that was the last meal for the buck. Funny thing is this is a buck we had planned for my dad to take, it was my fault but I'm very proud of him! The rest of saturday did not reveal any bucks and Sunday was a blow down, no bucks seen, funny how you find them everywhere scouting during other people's hunt but you can't find them on your hunt. Monday came and a few small bucks were seen but no BOOM yet, dad passed them on. Tuesday Dad started to get itchy trigger finger. We set up for glassing, found 3 bucks right away...moved closer....buck is 250 yards behind a cactus, we wait....buck moves..behind a tree...we wait....buck beds down no shooting lane...we wait...bucks stand up and run out of the country...we're very confused.....2 new bucks came around the corner spooking the bedded bucks...yay! I told dad it's a forkhorn and a spike and he said "pffth what's the range boy?" I told him 242 yards and gave him a thumbs up and BOOM that was lights out for his forkhorn, the shot was 31 degree angle uphill, he made a great shot! It was a great and fun hunt, both bucks were taken at 6700 and 6600 ft in elevation and we got to hunt in snow for a day, I'm glad we won't have to hike those mountains for some time now.

When you're driving down on the highway take a look around and find the mountains, good bucks are found on the top third of the mountain peaks, smaller bucks are found at the base and the freak giants are in the flats

Another Season Came and Went.

Congrats on your bucks, it is indeed a tough year and you guys got a nice pair of bucks -
Shooterpar- It's me, Tyler, the fella you ate breakfast with at the cafeteria in the AM at NAU, I just spent 6 months up in Alaska last year working for NSRAA as a fish biologist and got to do some work on commerical fishin rigs, mostly purse seining. I spent quite some time down in Sycamore canyon during shed hunting season and water wasn't that hard to find, there were often pools of water down there after the snow has melted and lasted as long as April. I picked up some dandy elk sheds at the bottom of sycamore canyon, it would be a great idea if you hit it up at that time right when bulls are dropping and you'll have plenty of water at the bottom, beware of warm days..sycamore canyon'll flood up like a MOTHER!

Great buck! Those long g3's are not common with coues, congrats

Just some more detailed info, the pistol was lost during scouting on Friday at the lower hills north of Cerro Colorados about 3/4 mile from the road, thanks for your help fellas!
-
Hey guys, I managed to lose my pistol when helping my sister's hunt, it's a Ruger GP100 .357 mag with 5 rounds of reload shells, I left it on a hillside and forgot to put it back in my backpack, turns out someone else got to the spot and picked it up before I was able to realize I left my gun there, I know some of you fellas were hunting that unit, thanks for the help!

many great bucks in the area, rarely see illegal traffic, walk a mile from the roads and you'll find bucks, you'll never see em under half mile from roads
-
Usually when you find Big horn sheep then you'll find the bucks in 6A, you're in the right area, we pulled a 104 where you went scouting
-
Dillion send me a pm, I know how to help you and i've helped others through this forum on 35A

I had a neighbor when I was growing up in Elgin and he hit a black bear out off of Rain Valley Ranch area while traveling down the highway just west of Whetstone, they're around, not too common though

I work based out of Elk City, ID, not too many big bulls around here but the success rate is doggone high. The bulls here come in easily to calls and the option is open for using either a rifle or bow, most bulls go around 250-300, a few made it bigger than that range. It's thick country like Hannagan Meadows in 27 but easy draw and good hunting. Just an FYI on that area

Since this topic has risen up on another post, thought I would make my own, I popped the question on a nice beautiful montana cowgirl a week ago and "whattyaknow" she said **** yes! I thought I'd post this on the coues biology section because this lady will be putting a biological impact on the buck population...starting off with spikes...forkhorns...farther down the road maybe a whopper buck? After this year's run of working in Idaho I decided to stop working out of state. I'm fed up with working in Alaska and Idaho and I am finally moving back to Arizona for good, thus more time for coues scouting. Here's a picture of my Fiance (hard to get used to that term!) and I We'll be gettin married in Sierra Vista on May 29th...cheers!

You'll probably sell the truck faster if you showed your archery buck from this year!
-
Amanda- it's true, when I started working in Idaho I met me a nice montana girl and popped the question about a week ago, soon we'll be moving to AZ and the wedding day oughta be next summer sometimes in May

COUESAZ- I don't know why I was reading this section but while reading your post I almost couldnt believe there was another sleeveless javi/coues killing machine in Arizona until I realized...oh...that's me!

I found me the same thing this past Dec, it sure gets creepy just because you never think you'd find anything like it

HOW....a hunt with 150 tags and I am 151
elkhunter replied to elkhutnaz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It's happened before with javelina tags, my sister and roomate and a friend put in for a hunt that had 3 leftover tags, 2 of em got the last two and my friend got the one tag 301 out of 300 tags total, we figured since they recieved apps at the same time they'll hand out one or two extras -
My turn! Personal best are 109 3/8 and 102 flat, back in 2006 I thought I was going to die without a buck over 100' I am sure many of you feel the same, just a little hard work, spit and blood helps. 109 3/8 102 Comparison of racks! Best memory was being able to harvest a buck in October which I previously thought was impossible and to pull a double with my old man in the middle of no where

very nice, no more squinting

Happy Birthday Christian, hope you don't remember it tomorrow

More Illegals = less hunters = better chance at a trophy buck
