I have the Leupold 4.5-14x with BC reticle and I found it very helpful out to 500 yards, the only downside is I spent about a month and half coming up with loads that matches the drop on the reticle, as of now each yardsage 200,300,400,450 are dead on while the 500 yard reticle is 6 inches high on average, but that can be counted for when shooting

I shot a pig in the past in the head with a .300 win mag, so boiling the skull was not an idea, however I collected the canines and tried to make a necklace or a strap for a cowboy hat. Needless to say, they dried out too much and when I tried to grind them down into appropriate size they shattered into several pieces and boy did it stink! Whatever you do, don't use a grinder, use drill bits instead and be sure to glue up any cracks for they break apart pretty easy, goodluck

Bob went to see his doctor and said "Doctor I am interested in getting castrated" The doctor looked shocked and asked the man if he had spoken to his wife about it, Bob said "my wife and I agreed that this is what we want to do and we waited quite some time for this" The doctor said "okay, your surgery will be in 2 days" 3 days later Bob was limping down the hallway to get a bottle of orange juice and he noticed another man limping too, Bob asked the other man why he was limping, The man replied "I got circumsized, my wife and I been wanting this for a long time" Bob looked startled and in his head he was thinking "OH S#$%, THAT"S THE WORD!!"

2010 is underway, I just wanted to say real quick that I got this pig today 1/2/10 and my sister (Stacy/AZarchery) got hers on opening day, we've been having good success in the last two days. This morning we went after a herd we've known for quite some time, about 8 years but we were not able to harvest a pig from this group in 4 years, the terrain is pronghorn country with small gullies that holds some food for pigs. The herd has grown outrageously in the past 4 years at a whoppin 11 pigs now (well 10 NOW), it all started when pops located the herd walking from a distant canyon into the canyon we were glassing and our stalk was on, the wind was right and the pigs were feeding downward into the gully. We ran out of cover at 50 yards so I decided to advance in the open terrain getting to 27 yards of a single pig, the pig was facing away giving me an opportunity for a texas heart shot but I held off, a pig above me to my left started to get spooky and trotted towards the herd so I thought "Oh heck here I go" I pulled the 25 yard pin right on the pig's hole pooper and right at that insant he looked to the right and my arrow was flying, the arrow grazed his neck and lodged into his brain, not quite a texas heart shot but the closest I've gotten to it in a few years. Dad will be trying for his pig next, we are heading out again and will keep you all updated, cheers.

Amanda- you're right it's an average size herd but back in 2004 it was only 4 pigs large and now gotten up to 11, hence the reason why I mention it has grown into a nice size group

Great story and an awesome buck! Huge congrats to your dad from the Weiss Family

In my exerience of using that call in the last 8 years of archery javelina between my dad and I (15 pigs total), the j-13 works BEST when you're within 30 yards of the herd, I found that outside of 30 yards they know it's not coming from a pig and they'll question whether a herd member is hurt or if it's a person. If you're right ontop of them it works great, making stands and dry calling does not work great, once in a while you'll call them in but MOST of the time you won't, all you are doing is educating them to stay away from the calls, use it when you need it...javeilna hunting ain't like coyote hunting

The year started off with some scouting and some nice bucks being located. Our hunt started Saturday morning with a steep hike up the mountain in the dark and we glassed for a few minutes then a buck was located prior to shooting light, I quickly moved closer around a ridge and the buck was still feeding in the same spot, I got setup and pulled the trigger at 232 yards and that was the last meal for the buck. Funny thing is this is a buck we had planned for my dad to take, it was my fault but I'm very proud of him! The rest of saturday did not reveal any bucks and Sunday was a blow down, no bucks seen, funny how you find them everywhere scouting during other people's hunt but you can't find them on your hunt. Monday came and a few small bucks were seen but no BOOM yet, dad passed them on. Tuesday Dad started to get itchy trigger finger. We set up for glassing, found 3 bucks right away...moved closer....buck is 250 yards behind a cactus, we wait....buck moves..behind a tree...we wait....buck beds down no shooting lane...we wait...bucks stand up and run out of the country...we're very confused.....2 new bucks came around the corner spooking the bedded bucks...yay! I told dad it's a forkhorn and a spike and he said "pffth what's the range boy?" I told him 242 yards and gave him a thumbs up and BOOM that was lights out for his forkhorn, the shot was 31 degree angle uphill, he made a great shot! It was a great and fun hunt, both bucks were taken at 6700 and 6600 ft in elevation and we got to hunt in snow for a day, I'm glad we won't have to hike those mountains for some time now.

When you're driving down on the highway take a look around and find the mountains, good bucks are found on the top third of the mountain peaks, smaller bucks are found at the base and the freak giants are in the flats
