I think I finally broke my 100 inch barier
elkhunter replied to 1Archer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
yah no shoot you broke the 100inch barrier! I seen your pics around at the archery shops down south, great buck! congrats! -
Casey- I am sorry to hear about your grandmother, she would have been proud of the buck you took, no doubt about that. Congrats on your buck, that's a real dandy
-
I saw your jeep a few times out there, you were camping close by to Shortypants and Coosefan, we were all wondering just who you guys were but never had a chance to swing by camp when you were there. Congrats on the bucks! We might have seen the gutpile from the 6x4, the country looks familiar!

Great footage! The last one from 2001 shows a difference in watchin aluminum arrow flight verses carbon! When I was up in college, my good friend Nate Regan would tell me stories about you and the hunting you boys did, he'd talk to me through the whole dam class

bump, brass still for sale -
**Rifle is sold** **Dies are sold** 300 brass is still for sale, about half are once fired, half is twice fired and out of all of them about 100 of them are cleaned and trimmed. $50 including shipping. Howdy, this is the first time I have tried to sell a gun. I have a remington Model 7 .243 stainless for sale. This is a great gun for a youth or female hunter, very light weight and shoots straight! I bought this gun from a game warden in 2007 and his kids used this gun to take a cow elk, 3 mule deer, 2 coues and several coyotes. My sister used this gun to take 2 coues deer. This rifle shoots very well out to 350 yards and weighs 7.8lbs with scope, sling and fully loaded. It also has a custom trigger job with no creep or pull, I am not sure what the name is. - Remington Model 7 243 stainless with synthetic stock, 22inch barrel, 7.8lbs with scope, sling and loaded. - Leupold Rifleman scope 3-9x-40mm, single stainless base with stainless rings, the scope has scratches on the outside and this happened when it was on my 300winmag, I fell down alot hiking in thick coues country, there are some cleaning scratches on the lenses too. - Custom trigger (no creep or pull) - RCBS 243 reloading does - 243 brass - $700 for everything above I am asking $700 for the whole deal. I found this rifle from several websites ranging from $600-$700 without the scope and in this deal I am tossing the rifle, scope, sling, reloading dies and brass for $700.

elkhunter replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
anywhere in the desert, that's where I go since shooting ranges have limits on the distance you can shoot at paper -
bird dog problem
elkhunter replied to cw4192's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
my dad has 2 English springer spaniels and he broke them in by shooting a .38 pistol with just the primer, the sound is quick and sharp but not as loud as a bullet. Start there and work into a shotgun shell round -

The rifle alone will be $550 depending on shipping, if I do not have to pay a shipping fee then the price will be $500. -
heard that BP shot an illegal last night north of Nogales, something about the illegal picking up a rock and getting ready to throw it at some agents so they shot him, did not kill him though, just wounded him. Perhaps it was that money dude

Generally the northern portion of the unit has more visability and it is easier to find pigs there compared to the southern portion of the unit. The southern portion is more oaks and grasslands but still there's quite a few pigs there. I'd look on the maps for some medium size hills from the middle to the northern portion of the unit and I'll bet my bottom dollar there's a herd of pigs living around each and every hill in 34A. There's plenty of pigs there

something was wrong with Glenn that day, he really gave us some good laughs too! I found out a few days after that event that Grasshoppers are carriers of Salmonella.....and that you're supposed to roast em before eating, have you heard back from Glenn yet? Is he still alive?

there are grunts made to imitate coues deer, I had some fun with that stuff calling in several spikes to shooting range, I bought mine from K and H archery shop in Sierra Vista but that store went bankrupt. My call is pretty worn so I can't find the brand name on it, hope someone on here knows the name./

I have been hunting coues for 7 years and been able to harvest many bucks. I have only found I think 1 or 2 rubs out in the desert in all of those years including helping others with hunting as well as javelina hunting and helping others with mule deer hunts. It is hard to find rubs in the desert due to the lack of actual trees to rub on. When I go up north, I find elk and deer rubs everywhere, it is much easier to spot them in the pines/juniper country. You have to remember that coues are very small compared to eastern whiteys and coues rubs are not as large or as evident as elk/mule/eastern whitetails. There are some boys on here that do follow coues rubs for the late archery season, lets hope they chime in.

Remington Model 7 243 with scope, dies and sling
elkhunter replied to elkhunter's topic in Classified Ads
The scope has been sold but the rifle itself has not been sold. The following are included in the package for $600, shipping will be negotiated later. My sister lives in phoenix and hand the gun over. -Remington Model 7 .243 - Reloading dies - 150 Brass, half once fired, half twice fired - Leupold one piece base and rings - Sling - Custom trigger - No creep or pull! This gun is an absolute killer, sometimes you don't have to aim at all, the animal just falls over dead! -
all theifs are idiots. If you worked in an office and saw a stapler, you wouldnt take it because you know it's stealing even when you don't know who it belongs to right? ya gotta be an idiot to steal and in order to steal ya gotta be an idiot, it is as simple as the law of gravity.
-
no it is not safe, your water bottles will get stolen along with your truck and tent. You are better off going to vegas with $50K and try to win some cash out of those slots. In a serious note, just be prepared at all times from midnight to midnight, have a gun with ya ready to rock n roll as soon as one of those boys touches the handle of your truck. Makes sleeping real fun at night! Gotta love it
-
Illegal traffic is pretty decent, they tried to steal my sister's truck when she camped out there the last time for scouting, she came out running of the tent shooting her pistol in the air. Border patrol says to always keep your gun cocked. Truth be told, the biggest coues bucks in the unit are found in mule deer country. If you are seeing whitetails when chasing mule deer, you're in a good spot and I would stick with that. If you ain't seein many bucks in the low country after a day or two, move up into the moutains, theres more bucks up higher but they aint as big as the ones in the flats.

One thing I noticed when Glenn took his first big game animal, he shot 665 yards...that was impressive but it was more impressive how Jim gave me a smile and a thumbs up. Jim's a hard dude to impress especially when it comes to hunting gear. Jim spends far more time in the outdoors and harvesting critters whether he harvests them himself or his friends or his clients than a majority of hunters in the US. The way Jim reacted after the shot shows his approval and his confidence in this product. If Jim gives a product a thumbs up, it is worth a second look! I know I am interested in this and my dad and I are already talking about splitting our funds to get this setup goin for us. One day I'll give a rookie a smile and a thumbs up too, ain't no doubt bout that! Good write up Jim!

casey- I am married, I can't afford a haircut to exchange for gas money -
That's awesome! I found a similar pile to that in 7W during my college years but it was made up of rougly 10 elk or so, we called it in but never got any information back, good job on your part! May you be blessed with a pronghorn tag next year!
