Some will call me crazy! --Picture of Mount added.
elkhunter replied to scoutm's topic in Elk Hunting
Seldom drawn- it's all about the hunt and not the score buddy, I always tell my students that there is never anything wrong with reading and doing your best but there is everything wrong with not reading everything, the story was fantastic and the experience alone is greater than you probably will ever experience with a 480 bull since you are so hung up in scores, too bad you can't read a half page and be more concerned with the scores of bulls, I enjoyed the story and am on my way to be in the same hunt in a few years, I will call you up for any advice! Great bul!! -
Arizona terrain is too difficult for them to videotape that's why they don't come here unless they have a crazy camera man

Been a bit more bickering on this website since I joined 10 years ago, must be the fed shutdown making everyone cranky, just remember we are all blessed to have this website and to be able to hunt even if we are hunting rabbits or OTC deer or even going outside to hang trail cams

Parts of azgfd will shut down but it's for endangered species projects because they are partially funded by the Feds, the rest of azgfd will operate as usual

Get an OTC tag if it's available, no matter what don't tell anyone where these elk are, I am sure you are getting pm's now asking bout these bulls

In my family we have 2 ppl with Zeus conquest and ended up making our own straps! Take a strip of 1x4 and cut it to the width of the binos, go to Home Depot and buy heavy duty Velcro strap, bout 3 inch in width, nail it to the base of the wood strip, drill a hole to the size of the tripod bit, then we put a small towel in the middle so the binos sit comfortably without creeping at the sides, after all that wrap it up in outdoors duct tape, works very well and has lasted my family members 4 years thus far

I have been here for 10 years and over that time I have read countless of stories of other hunters messing up your chances of harvesting a critter, here's the die hard question, have you ever messed up another hunter's opportunity to harvest? I may have done this one time, I glassed up a herd of javelina and about 80 yds below them were 4 hunters classing the opposite hill side, it was my last day to hunt so I decided to avoid the hunters and circle around and come down on the herd, it all went perfect and was able to harvest a pig 140 yds away from 4 guys about an hour after glassing them up, they turned around as I whooped And hollered, and all i could do wad point them in the direction the other pigs took off in, I never told them the pigs were behind them the whole time

Wolves - it's time to step up and comment
elkhunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
Mark- well posted and well explained, that's why they disappeared in the first place because they fed on cattle That's the primary reason why wolves are doing so well up north, typically predator population remains parallel to prey population (wild prey mind you) but with cattle around it allows wolf population to be higher than their natural way because they don't depend on their natural prey only, whenever cattle is around there's way more food for wolves and allows their population to expand. -

Steve- it may be last minute but there's a ton of ranchers from Sierra vista to New Mexico border that would give you 100% support, they run cattle as a main source of profit, -

Try Craigslist for this, some new family, non hunters, will jump on this quickly, most hunters already have these items, best of luck!

Let's hear your "Zombie-dove" stories
elkhunter replied to Scooter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I grew up on the empire ranch where's there's always been good dove shooting, I have had numerous doves just fly out of my vest as I was hiking around, some killed recently and some killed hours ago, I think sometimes they r just knocked out cold or just plainly come back to life! -
Big tub, they might mean there's not a hunt able population there yet.......

That's awesome, I took my 2 year old son out last Sunday, he wasn't ready to touch the birds yet but did mention the birds were 'sleeping' that's what he told my wife

Whoops thought this post was on 36b haha, camp near the hwy in 36a that's ur best bet, I have camped there and in 36b and most southern units by myself, I take out my hearing aids before sleep too, just make sure ur loaded and ready if needed, I tend to sleep in my truck (camper) when out
-
Most of the time I spent in this unit, everyone tends to camp in groups and in the morning they make the long drive to their spot, I know arivaca lake always has around 50 ppl camping , good place for a crowd nearby and plenty of main roads to access from there

This board never left Sierra vista yet!
