    Mouth diaprham call

It was sold by Marvin Robbins at timberline calls and was my go to for years before he died. Lots of great memories of both turkey hunting and my friendship with Marvin .

2018 NWTF national call making contest

Not this year, I am going to hunt Oceollas in Florida instead.
  3. This is crazy because it is my wife's birthday too. I asked her last night and she said winning some great prizes would be a great way to celebrate her birthday. Save me a couple seats Mark and count on another call donation for your banquet.

Gould’s for sale - but which is it ?

If you shoot a 2 year old Merriam's tom he will weigh right about 19 lbs. 3 years and older they will be 20 plus with my largest being 24 lbs. If you are looking for the heaviest birds a Eastern bird from the midwest will out weigh goulds and merriams every time. They don't travel everyday like our birds out west. They are basically field birds that fly down in the morning and eat corn all day, they don't need to walk for miles in search of food and are fat lazy birds. When they say Goulds are the largest they are talking about height and skeletal structure and not weight.

My guess would be the one on the right, more white tipped tail feathers. Great looking mounts.

    Leftovers

I was curious how this was going to work because in the regulations it said applications accepted online (if available) or by mail. On the new leftover list it says applications accepted by mail only. I guess that means online will not be available.

    Draw results on Portal

You were lucky to draw with 2, most turkey hunters that drew a tag and hunted last year had one more point than you at 3. One for hunter safety one loyalty point and one they bought from the fall draw. Turkey points build fast with two draws a year. I have 16 points and have been waiting for a Gould's tag. Good luck on your hunt. I will be going out of state and might pick up a leftover depending on whats available.

    MLB Playoffs

Its refreshing to see all the players stand for the national anthem and even see some come back out of the dugout onto the field for "God bless America" during the seventh inning stretch.

    Prickly pear picking

Took my boys out over the weekend on our way home from fishing to pick some prickly pear to make some jelly and lemonade. Had a great time and love the taste. If any one wants to go pick them there are quite a few ripe and ready. My son came up with the idea to sell jars of the jam to help pay for his tickets into Disneyland on an upcoming vacation. We have three flavors, peach prickly pear (peaches are fresh picked from my parents tree in Snowflake), prickly pear pineapple, and prickly pear. If anyone is interested in buying some jam from my boys let me know.

    Prickly pear picking

I read Amanda's post (the one in the link above) a few years ago and use her method with the juicer. Its easy with not to much prep. Only real pain is filtering the juice that comes out of the juicer and even that is not that bad.

Looking for a scope for my muzzleloader

When I upgraded my muzzleloader scope a few years ago I narrowed my choices down to the Nikon inline and the Leupold ultimate slam. Both had muzzleloader specific reticle with lines or dots for diferent yardages. In looking through them side by side at Sportsman’s and Bass Pro the Leupold was noticeably clearer and better glass so I went with it.

    Where am I?

Christmas tree and Hurricane are two different lakes. Hurricane is behind Reservation lake on the south side of mt Baldy. Christmas Tree is south of Hawley lake about 8 miles on the west side of mt Baldy. Both are great fishing for Apache trout. The first picture is Hurricane, the second is Christmas tree.

    Where am I?

Hurricane rent a lake is a great place for holiday (memorial day or 4th of July) or busy weekends when you want to get away from people. Fishing is usually good there early in the summer. From mid-July on there is usually a bad algae bloom and fishing gets really tough. If you are looking for a cheaper way to fish it without having to rent the whole lake for a weekend look into joining a local fly fishing club. I have been with several clubs that rent the lake for their club members.

    Powder Vs. Pellets

Shoot Blackhorn 209 powder and pick up a bunch of charge tubes you can preload. It is almost as easy as pellets and shoots allot cleaner.

Turkey Hunting and Calling Seminar Wednesday April 5th 6PM at Mesa Sportsman's

Thanks for all who came last night. I had a lot of fun meeting some of you and sharing a little bit about turkey hunting and turkey calls. I really enjoy doing these seminars, it gets me even more excited to go hunting in a few weeks. Hope you all picked up a few things that will help you in the woods this spring.
  24. I will be doing another turkey hunting and turkey calling seminar again this spring. For those who haven’t attended my seminars in the past there will be general turkey hunting tips and strategies. There will also be breakout trainings with hands on call use training. This year I will be a doing a mouth call training. There will also be a pot call training (slate, aluminum, copper, glass and crystal). Each person in attendance will receive a free mouth call along with instruction and training and get to use and practice with several types of calls. All calls for the training will be supplied by me. Calls will be available for purchase after the training. There will also be a question and answer time so if you have any questions or are looking for help in a particular unit there will be several experienced turkey hunters willing to help. This seminar will be free of charge with no registration required, just show up the day of the seminar. There will be some door prizes given out to those in attendance provided by Sportsman's Warehouse. I look forward to teaching these seminars each year and helping others improve their turkey hunting and calling skills. I hope to meet some of you there. Wednesday April 5th 2017, 6:00PM – 8PM at the Mesa, Arizona Sportsman’s Warehouse
