http://www.humboldt.edu/~wildlife/news/modules.php.html I think I have seen several more photos, the ones that were on azgfd are not where they used to be. Just trying to find the photos I came up with several interesting articles on how to re-establish them, including northern AZ.

During our elk hunt in 6A there was a tent set up from the day we got there until we left, it had an abondoned ticket on it from the forest service, I am pretty sure the date on the ticket was at least three weaks prior to the first day we were there, we were there for eleven days. At what time does the forest service remove these tents, the only reason we even checked it is when you see a campsite and never see no one there you kind of wonder if someone might be hurt or dead, but nope just left the tent, couldn't see anything wrong with the tent either.

Congrats on a great buck. I'll say 103 on the score.

Here is how my hunt went this year We drew 5 35A tags, my brother and his ten year old got it as their third choice and me, my other brother, and my cousin got 35A with our third coice as well. A couple weeks ago my cousin lets me know he probably can't go, he will be sent to Seattle for training ( he just got the job ), my brother and I have very little time left after our elk hunt, my bother brother cantake no time off work, plus my nephew hasd his last football game of the season on Sat. and both teams are undefeated and this game will decide home field for the playoffs, the team I am coaching with my son plays their last game that Sat. as well. After my younger brother talks with our boss ( who is a hunter ), he gives him a couple of days off, we are going up on Sunday and coming back monday night, and we are going to take my nephew who is my other brothers kid on his first deer hunt with a tag in his pocket. The games were played on Sat. with my nephews team winning and our team winning ( both teams 7-0 ) we were ready. We left later than we wanted Sun. morning, the kid had lost his hunting license and we got him a duplicate. We got there mid morning, glassed and covered a little ground, no deer. We moved a few times throughout the day and seen nothing. Late afternoon I spot some Gould's Turkeys, counted sixteen in the flock, showed my nephew the turkeys and explained the rarity of them. At first he told me he wasn't turkey hunting he was looking for deer, but me and my brother explained he had to be patient, take in everything, look everywhere and we will see deer. My brother sees a little movement and when I get the 15s on it there are two does under a tree, scoured the area and found two more. They were all does and were not moving, as it got later one got up and started to feed, the second one followed, pretty soon all four were moving along the other side of the canyon feeding, they were also moving toward a tank, we picked up and moved along our side closer to the tank in hopes other deer would be heading there as well. The does worked into the thick stuff into the bottom and could no longer be seen, I did see something under a tree along the bottom, I told my brother and nephew to be ready. By now it was starting to get a little late, I couldn't see what was down on the bottom and we didn't have many days to hunt, so while I got the binos on the tree I tell my brother to toss a rock. As soon as the rock hit the deer stepped out I see its a buck in the binos, without looking up I say shoot it its a buck, shoot it, I am telling my brother you need to shoot this deer its a buck, now I get the where is it, it is standing in the bottom next to the tree, wide open broad side, my brother who is holding MY gun at the time has lost where its at, my nephew hasn't said a word, I say give me the gun or shoot the deer, at that point the deer moves a few feet more out in the open, now he sees the deer, 220 yards away, he shoots and he misses, the deer starts up the opposite side stops and starts to go straight up just as it started to move again the second shot connected, I watched the deer move about five feet and dropped, my brother had killed his first Coues and he did it with my gun, we were a very happy group, we almost couldn't go and now we had one down. My pictures suck, but here they are. [/img] [/img] [/img]

Congrats on a great buck, thanks for the pics and story.

I may hear about overkill on this one, but the deer wasn't blown in half, it did really well, it entered in the back just right of the spine and came out the chest. The gun is my Marlin 45-70, and it was shooting 325 gr. leverevolution bullets.

Congrats to you and your brother, sounds like you had a great time.

Who says you need a Dec. tag to kill biggin's?

Congrats on a great deer. Thanks for the story and pics. -
Well the limit for Ducks in Oregon is 7 so it looks like the Devils will only score a touchdown. It's open season on Scum Devils with no limit and I'm sure the Ducks are going to be scoring a lot more than 7. At least there is a limit on ducks, it appears that wildcats are an endangered species on the verge of extinction.

You can go ahead and say what you want, but all we have to say is SCOREBOARD, we can lose the rest of our games and we are still in a bowl and one of the top teams in the pac-10. Our wins and losses if we have any mean something and can be talked about, but if you feel that UofA is being left out we can include them in the discussion, who is going to be coaching them next year, are they going to finish 8th, 9th or 10th in the pac-10, when if ever will they get to the Rose Bowl, or as usual we can just wait till basketball season and listen then.

Happy Birthday Amanda

Happy Birthday Amanda, have a great trip. -
My first elk tag went unfilled, got close a few times, took one shot and missed. We did see bulls everyday though and I had a great time, I just hope I don't have to wait this long for my next tag. I hunted friday opening day, did not hunt saturday morning (my son's second football game 32-0), hunted saturday evening and was there through the following sunday. I did see one rattlesnake tuesday night close to seven on our way back to the truck, it's dark my brother jumps and yells rattler, I say where, he says I don't know but I can hear it, at this point I realize that my ears are bad because I hear nothing, I see nothing, and my brother is hopping around with a light trying to find the snake, finally he finds it, pretty small speckled rattler about two feet straight in front of me, that snake caused our walk back to the truck to take three times as long a little over a mile and I checked every single step I took. Congrats to all of you who took elk, it seems there are quite a few guys that connected. I have a deer hunt next month and then I can hope for another elk tag in the next few years.

Wonder how this will affect the 10% non-resident draw chances.

How Do We Make Changes in AG&FD?????
KGAINES replied to m77's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I would look at it from the perspective that who is going to get voted in? The majority of the voting public is "NON hunting." They will have the power to vote in a tree huggin', no animal eatin', anti-huntin' individual. I agree with that, we can't let the anti's vote for our commissioners, they might suck but they aren't anti. We need a new Governor who would put people in there that truly look out for the hunters, the habitat, and the wildlife, not just one or the other. Showing up at the commission meetings in numbers does have an effect on the ones we have, I would say that everyone speeaking their mind at these meetings would have an even greater effect. -
Why is it that a lot of threads turn into mud slinging personal attacks lately. An argument is fine, no one has to agree with anyone and to argue your point and try to get support is fine, but when you don't like something said and attack the person directly with nonsense it turns stupid real fast and the whole thread becomes a a pissing match and it goes nowhere fast. Everyone can be a tough guy when its anonymous on the internet, but if you have that much of a problem with whats going on then you should be at the azgfd meetings and tell the commissioners how you feel.

As I have stated before they took hunting opportunity from us, they have been trying to shove opportunity down our throats for three or four years and then rip it from us. Next salt and baiting will be taken and that will happen REAL soon, then the entire state will be draw for archery. Every time they do it they will have charts and graphs and scientific data to back them up, and lets not forget the surveys, they will have those as well. They will claim that the hunting groups only represent a small percentage of the hunting public, that the majority want these changes, it is probably already planned out, they are just going through the motions right now. If we give them anything they take it, plus they take something we want tio keep as well, we have to fight them for all hunters, I don't use bait or salt, but the people that do put in a lot of work and time outdoors and if it makes them happy good for them, teach your kids to do it and their friends, we need more hunters. The one thing that is usually great about hunters is that we stick together, lately we are nit picking ourselves, we are a minority already and splitting a small percentage into smaller groups is an easier fight for whoever wants to attack us. I really hope the AZGFD tries for the tax that they really need our support on, they are really looking for support on this issue last I heard, they will NOT get it from ME, and anyone I can get to listen to me, take something from me and I will retaliate however I can.
