San Carlos Apache Rez 108 buck
Apache7mm replied to Apache7mm's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hey thanks for all the info guys, yea my uncle don't really mind the prices, he's just been out of the taxi-cost list for awhile so he just wanted to know what they're running today, first thing he's gonna get mounted in a long time, he took this buck in UNIT C, not on the Nantac, just stopped there for some photos. For all the guys with San Carlos NOV and JAN tags, not too many big coues were taken this year from the tribal hunt, from the sounds of it a lot of big deer got away, and if you guys havn't been out here in awhile don't freak out on all the dried up tanks all over the rez cuz there's plenty, regarless everyone still saw deer in the usual honey holes though. Also i'll go ahead and drop the bomb about a 136" gross 3x3 coues that was killed by a tribal member this season, i've only seen pictures and it's pretty amazing, i gotta get more info on it still though, sorry for the tease guys. -
WOW! thats a sweet buck, love the eyeguards, congrats to the whole crew! DAN

Congrats to everyone, especially to your wife on a killer first coues buck! Now the hard part is topping it. DAN -
Pictures of San Carlos Lake for those who havn't been out lately, water is very low right now, already talks of people catching some big fish, they have nowhere to hide now, the water is so low some of us Apaches might be able to move back to Old San Carlos lol. DAN

Excellent sheds, nice looking bucks, way to go on the elk too for the in-law. DAN

Being a tribal member from SC and hunting here all my life, i can give a little info on the rez. The thing i like about here is you can hunt just about anywhere and find coues, and not only that but in all 4 Units you can hunt either up high in the pines, down low in the stickers and cactus, or inbetween in the oaks, juniper, and acorns, and and, always have the option of DIY (excluding R-100). But i guess as far as the trophy quaility goes, i definately agree with most comments here that there are some very nice bucks taken on the rez each year but not the caliber to match Mexico, just by looking at all the giants from this year and last and even before that there are consistently 120+ bucks taken down in Mexico, i don't think there's been anything that big off the rez here since the 196 NT was killed back in the dinosaur days. I think the only thing that makes most ppl second guess Mexico is all the things you mentioned with checkpoints and whatnot, but i'm sure its one of those things that you just have to get through in order to experience the Glory in the end, its the same out here on the rez as some know, sometimes you get right through that line outside or you get someone to buy your tag and you're set, OR, you get different stories and mix ups and end up pulling out your hair and hating the rez in the end all because of a bad experience, tough choice, whatever you decide, good luck and don't forget to share your experience with us all!!! DAN

Now this is what i like to see, Primetime couldn't have said it better, "Good friends, Good times", i mean of course thats what we all enjoy about hunting, also a good example that, in my opinion, no one unit is better than the next out here on the rez, we all have our good hunts and our bad hunts too but thats all just part of hunting, enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends while its still all around us! Monsoon Season...
Apache7mm replied to Apache7mm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Hey everyone well thanks for all the comments, it's been pretty fun n exciting chasing them storms around n having them chase me around too, how do i get shots like that? well just pure luck i guess, actually most of the pics i got to come out were the ones where the lightning flickers in one spot for like a half second, i'm not fast enough to get split second shots haha, that close strike was totally awesome though, all i really remember was a very loud noise that did shake me n at the last min i finally remembered to take the pic, almost missed it, i'm glad it came out though, hope to post more pics soon n shed season for me will start next month, hard whites this year i guess. DAN -
well its definately monsoon season around these parts now, seen lots of flooding and all that good stuff happening in Tucson and PHX, no floods here yet just lots of rain in the mtns, been a lightning storm chasing dude lately too out in the field, thought i'd share a few of the pics i've taken lately. DAN

Came across this one today in the field, noticed how "faded" the coat looked so i stopped and took a closer look, looked really white to me but not completely white, when she ran across the road i seen the spotted "pie-bald" look on the face, first time i've ever seen it with my own two peepers, cool. DAN
-
yea it was really cool to see that in the wild, of course when she was feeding up to the road in the thick stuff she just took her sweet ol time, then as soon as she hit the road she was across in no time, then once again in the thick back to just relaxing, i tried to get a pic of her and the other doe she was with for comparison, you could really tell the difference, but oh well. DAN
-
haha, cool, yea don't seize up on us now younghunter! that won't be good, yea i guess i'm just a lucky dude, see what else i can come across in the next few days, have a good one everyone. DAN
-
Came across this guy while i was heading after a radio collar up in the hills here today, not too shabby. DAN
-
here's some of what i've come across lately up in the high country, all during work hours though so no actual shed huntin for me yet, i still have yet to get out there for one trip still, maybe tomorrow, good luck to everyone and keep them shed pics coming! DAN
