Turkey strut and gobble action!
Koury Guide Service replied to Koury Guide Service's topic in Turkeys!
The JVC HD camera can be bought at Walmart for around $300 it has two sd memory card slots to save the video. I use it to throw in a pocket in case you see something that you are not expecting. It does the job and is HD which is a must today, if you want to do any thing with the footage. If you have the extra money buy the Canon for around $600 it has many more options and is a great camera on the low to mid range HD video cameras. -
Here are some of the photos from the video of the scouting trip me and the boys just took this afternoon. The junior hunt is only 5 days away and we have to be ready. Click the link for more pictures and the video of these turkeys in the rut! Click the link to see the awesome video of these birds in action! Good luck to all those kids this weekend!

That footage was with a HD small JVC Everio. Your better bet is the Canon Vixia HFS200. Great footage and a great price for the quality of Video. -

Very nice. Nice looking elk also. Got to love those bulls with big backs and a kicker.

AZ FSJ'r Congrats on a great tag. The individual that drives around Show Low with the 442 license plate is number #2 in the world non-typical P@Y and was my client, and yes it was killed in 3C. You can see this elk on my blog under draw results are available. It is the first elk with the big kickers off both sides. Today could be your lucky day!! Call me tomorrow. My number is on my website at kouryguideservice.net. I actually have the archery hunt in the same unit. Just call me and we can talk.

Great story and congrats on a beautiful bird. I actually got to watch 5 gobblers fight over 20 hens this morning while doing a little scouting for the junior hunt. Awesome birds and they really know how to put on a show. Congrats again.

For starters this is a very hard hunt. I have guided this hunt probably 10 times in the past years. When you are asking should you go low or high? This would be depending on how low you are talking. The over the counter tag in 4B takes in the real low country so that will not be a good option. The hard thing with this tag is there are not alot of places to gain elevation to glass long distances if you have the higher end optics to look far. If you see a six point of any size I would suggest shooting it on the spot. You are going to need to scout a ton after the rut is over and then scout the 4 days before the hunt starts to find the bull you want to shoot and shoot him at daylight opening morning before the elk get spooked. Once they get spooked they hide in the thick cedar pockets and the hunt just became even harder. Be prepared to put lots of miles on you vehicle and see very few elk. The higher country in the unit is more like a road hunt. There are a few area that you can walk to and glass some open areas but these areas are hard to find without great knowledge of the unit or GPS cordinates. Also you asked about water.. That will be something you will have to determine in you scouting right before the hunt. You will need to check tanks just prior to the hunt to determine if the elk are using that water. If there are bull elk using the tank you might need to install some trail cameras to see if there is any size to any of the elk that is using the tank.

Here are a couple of the bulls from the video I put together from some footage over the past couple years of elk hunts with us. With the draw fast approaching I thought we should see some awesome elk footage to hold us over till the results are released. Then we can start the happy dance after drawing that tag, or just start crying. Here are some of the bulls you will see in my Elk Highlight Video. Not to mention over 7 fast action kill scenes. Click the link to witness the Elk Highlight Video. Huge Bulls and numerous kill scenes are a click away!!

We were at Roosevelt from 3/22-3/27 and caught a ton of Large Mouth Bass. We fish every morning and every evening and we averaged about 30-45 fish a day. Nothing huge the biggest was around 5.5 Lbs.
-
We are fishing the tonto end. The evening bite is better. Caught over 25 this evening on sinkos. This is the time to take those kids fishing so they will enjoy it. Same color as before. Throw sinkos I'm the brush in about 5 ft water and hold on ...

Weightless sinkos in baby bass or any green color is working great. Fish are in 2-7 feet of water and close to the trees. Good Luck.
-
Have been at Roosevelt all day and the bite is awesome. Drop shot robo worms. Or throw sinkos weightless. The bass are active and moving up into the shallow water. Will be here the rest of the week with spring break. I will update every evening if your looking for a report.
