    More deer than hogs.

You could also do me/us a favor by posting the live pics of the Javis as well. I don't think Amanda will mind to much. So that way we know what they look like for the upcoming hunt. hahaha

    Flushing -vs- Glassing

Busting deer is a great way to scout before and just after the season. We all know that glassing is the best/easiest way but sometimes I have a real hard time sitting still for so long, I always want to see what is around the next bend or hill. Even after having scouted an area a few times before I aways seam to find a better glassing spot then where I am already sitting. So up I go. I will always be the first to walk a nasty canyon or catclaw pile not so much to give myself a shot opertunity, I can't hardly hit them standing still let alone running, but to almost make sure I see some thing. I am kind of wierd. I do not have to make a kill to be happy, let alone some thing big. I truely enjoy the whole hunting experience, days off from work , time spent with the hunting party (my family), the outdoors. The only thing I ask for is to be able to shoot at a deer/elk/javi or anything else I am hunting, if I miss that is my own fault no one elses with that I am happy.
  5. Once again great job!! Hey guys Andy is famous over at bowsite.com! He has a bear, mt. lion, coues, javi, and a mulie all with in 1 year with a stick bow none of this compound stuff!! Andy you are sure having a GREAT YEAR!! CONGRADULATIONS

    HUGE SHED.......

Pleeeeeaaassssseeeee. If you get premission and post it I promise to post a picture of the monster mid 90" that I found while bow hunting!! hahahaha
  7. Looks like Sat will be the last day effort to try and tag one of these little guys. My hunting partner(my cousin) and I have been out 8 times this month with no luck! We have the 36's tag so we have plenty of area, but not any luck. We have had opertunity/stalks on deer just about every time we have gone out except once, but on Javis only myself one time! After tracking the herd for 1/2 mile I busted the herd but with the wind in my favor they didn't bust up to bad. I was quickly able to get back in to the herd. Maybe to close. Like 15-40 yards with 8 Javies looking at me, 16 eyes on me and not able to move a muscle for like 10 min!! After ten min I was able to range two different pigs but then it all quickly went down hill from there. We have had a great January, we have learnd a lot, just no luck!!! I have been called more stubborn than smart so we will be out again on Sat! Thanks for letting me get it out.

    nostler partition

I'm with Ernesto C the partition is a great bullet but seems like maybe it might not be a good choice for the Coues. The partition is an EXCELLENT bullet but only the front half is the fast opening part of the bullet design, the second half is for pentrating. The .243 with 100gr. Partition would be a good choice for BIG mule deer at close range. But for the Coues at the ranges you mentioned and are normal like 250-400yards I belive that a plastic tip is the best bet. Nosler balistic tip, Hornday SST, even Remington has a new one but I don't remember what it is called. Another point that was made buy Ernesto C is why the change from .243 to 30-06.? Who knows some of us change hunting rifles like we change our socks. Point is that at the range you mention might be the farter reaches of the .243. it will still kill them but you have seen with your own eyes what can happen at that range. Ultra mags, Lazzeroni's, and Wetherby's won't drop them if shot placement is poor.

    Mexico-January

Cold Zero sorry to hear that you had to go through all that. My hunting buddys in Sonora have told me of such stories. As they investigated and explained to me is that during the hunting season Nov, Dec, Jan drugs are transported and stored at homes/ranches like the wonderful place you stayed at. Thing is that there are many places where one can go to hunt with no problem. The ranch you stayed at was not shot out but more than likey they never had any intention doing anything to get you a deer. They were using you and your partner as cover for there wrong doings. The Mexican solgers and Federales know "who is and who isn't" they don't bother or waste there time on liegit hunting camps. My friend in Sonora know buy word of mouth who and which places to stay a way from, we don't but now thanks to you we do! On another note I am sorry to say that I did not get to go on my Sonora hunting trip. We had every thing planed and ready to go on the 1st in the afternoonto return on the 5th but I got a call that my grandmother passed away and had to return to be with my family. The invation still is there, they are going back out the 16th to who knows when but reality, life, no more vacation days left, and bills say no.

    Anybody bowhunt scrapes?

Hey Josh sorry to hear about your loss little guy! Great stories and even better memories. How about pictures of to sheds even though they are mulie sheds. Thanks again for the great adventure, it is almost as if we were there!
  13. sorry, javelinahunter.com not javAlinahunter.com
  14. I know that this started off as a conparison between Coues and Mulie meat but so much talk of Javalina has got my mouth watering. I will be headed out this afternoon and this weekend to try and fill my archery tag. I have a way or process to field dress a Javi that leaves the meat great tasting and ready to cook any way you want. I posted my "method" and Javalinahunter.com forum under "field cleaning tips" or e-mail me and I would be happy to share it with you.

    december hunters

GMM, The California "hunters" are famous and yet again caused quite a mess in the 32 around Klondyke in this years deer hunt. Blocking access with truck, trailers even with quads. My cousin saw some Cali "hunters" packing out a Coues that had been deboned, but with no head(like a doe maybe)!!! He later ran into a WM and told him what he saw. Don't know what happened with it. While trying to fill my 03 deer archery tag up in 36A around the Cisco ranch pass to the east side of the Sierritas it almost took me longer to stop and pick up cans than I did walking. It really makes me MAD to know that other hunters did this, and to think that there are guys in the same hills a you and I during deer season with high powered rifles with a "few in them". Don't get me wrong I am no saint but when I hunt I MIGHT have A beer back at camp right before bed. The 36's have been my play ground for a few years now and I plan on being at the clean up. Sorry to say that I will not be able to contribute any game meat though, unless I can figure out how to make tag jerky.
  16. Today IS the perfect day down here around Tucson and for hunting I am sure SORRY I sighed up for holiday work today . To out in the 36's running around with bow in hand and....... The temp out side of my house says 51 deg, silght wind, cloudy, and looks like it is 6:30 am all morning. Now it is sprinkling! SURE WISH I WAS HUNTING TODAY

    short magnums

Info in my magazine says that the 300WSM and the 300WIN MAG have the same velocity with the same bullet stlye and weight with same barrel lenght (like 26") but the 300WSM uses less powder. The reason is like stated before it is more efficient (short/fat). The 300WSM only needs a 26" barrel. Now if you were to have 30" barrel on the 300WIN MAG then that is when it has an advantage, more barre/time for extra powder to burn= more velocity, about 100-200 more fps than with 24" or 26". Problem is that not many of us want to lug around that long of a barrel. Same artice said that there is a limit to burn rate. The example that was givin was a 300 Remington ULTRA MAG not the short. They put a regular bed sheet hanging in front of the barrel at 10 feet away with about 2 feet lying on the floor back to the shooter then shot the rifle, again a 300 Remington ULTRA MAG. They found a quite a bit of raw unburnt powder at the bottom of the sheet! An INefficient way to get more velocity. I have been eyeing a 300WSM for a LONG time but I can't stand to pay $25 a box of bullets. heck even the dies a expensive.

    Anybody bowhunt scrapes?

Rembrant As for your concerns: 1. I don't think that you have to worry about Mr. Big finding a receptive doe just yet. I belive that the "rut" has to do with the shorter day/longer nights than with temp. Does will go into estrous soon, but not quite yet. If he is really big he is not wasting time or energy on a doe that is not quite ready. 2. I think the cold/snowy weather changed his rutine a little. When it is cold they move more because it cold. Stick with it and soon enough his will come buy again (HOPEFULLY) Work, babies and life in general make it hard some times but all the more rewarding when finally every thing works out!!

    Arizona Regulations

Sorry, your question was how does AZGFD you won't use both tags???? They might not..........but I or any one in my hunting party (my family) will not take two deer in the same year because it is stealing, cheating, lying, unfair, POACHING, and if you get caught you will amoung other things lose your right to hunt for 1-5 years!!!!

    Arizona Regulations

AZ Game & Fish will sell you a Archery tag and you can apply for and get drawn for the fall draw hunt, so yes you can have two tags in your hand at one time BUT you can only take (1) deer per calender year. If you shoot it with your bow, rifle, or hit it with your truck for that matter you still get only (1) deer.

    Interesting Coues Stories

That same thing happened to my wife! We went scouting for Mulies 2 years ago in 32. My wife had a point and click camera that she brought along to "take picures of deer" I laughed and thought "yea right" but she was with me scouting so.... On a hill top watching a hill/mountian a fork whitetail came feeding down to us for about 30-40 min untill he got to about 150 yards or so, my wife stood up and said "I am going to go take a picture of him" and started to walk to him!!! I told her in MY EXPERT OPINION "Don't, he is going to run! Well my wife ignored MY EXPERT OPINION and got to 50 yards, click....40 yards click......30 yards click......20.....10 yards!!. She ran out of film walked with him as he feed for a while, then came back and said "I don't know why pepole say it is so hard to hunt Whitetails!!" I told her that fork had never seen a human before and that is why he never ran. I think I herd my wife quietly ay "yea right" Funny how Coues make our EXPERT OPINIONS more like EXPERT QUESSES!!
