Anyone hunting with new firearms this season?
More D replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
That purty wood will get you every time! Nothing new for me, this year at least. I keep thinking about a new rifle in 300WSM To replace my 30-06 "mule" but then I take it to the range and the groups it shoots make me smile every time!! !! It is a bit beat up even for a syn stock but it does its part, now all I need to do is hold up my end. I am working on the "new" still, I got the bino bug and there is a pretty good deal on Pentax 10x42s at Popular. All i need to do is sell my old binos down in Mexico for good money like I did my spotting scope I might be able to pull it off. Isn't it funny how our hunting equipment always need to be "upgraded" -
2 weeks for me too!! Our whole hunting party(The family) can't wait!

Hey 300, My brother has the Nov rifle Kaibab tag. Just wondering if there is anything up around the town of Jacob lake. Like a resturant, store, motel? He and his brother-in-law drew this tag out of sheer luck. Meaning they could not hunt this year so they both applied for the impossable to get the bonus point and.......of course they got it. Now they are going to hunt to say the least, they only had to beg and borrow from work, wife, and every thing else to get to hunt. Any other help/info would be greatly apreciated to help get my brother and his brother-in-law, both great guys, there first deer ever. We have NEVER been there and don't even know any one who has been there before let alone hunt there. Thanks

Your buddy was sent to school for one night but it was never reported and no paper work was more than likey done to attach his name to his "offense" Especially if this was during one of the busy week ends down there. That would be guess, but only a guess. Not a major crime, I don't think so. I once had lunch with a lawyer and a judge in Nogales Mex. When we came out I got a parking ticket as I was reading it the judge buddy of mine saw me and said not to worry about it that nothing would ever happen with the ticket. I said cool are you going to "take care of it for me" He laughed and said "no, There is no way they can know about this later" He explained something about a poor computer system. A parking ticket and being in jail are way different but who knows. Tell your buddy to ask a lawyer in Mexico NOT the authorites. Asking the wrong people would only tell them something they might never now!

Your right DBack.....but Deer is a given for me and family with the hope for and Elk tag every few years and a Buff and sheep tag only befotre I die. If my wife and daugter all get a tag after the new HIGHER FEES I can promise you all that new higher fees only hurt me. $30 in gas $50 for a tag is a good way to look at it but how about a guy whos Arizona Elk budget is in the 10s of thousands. $500 or $1500 or even $2500 is not going to hurt, heck it will make it easier for him to get a tag and even an Elk. Saddend to see that our G&F is being ran around like they only had them self to worry about. More money for tags ARE NOT THE ANSWER!

Sound like you found your bullet FC80. If it shoots accurate then it's perfect! CRONIC GUT SHOOTER! NOW THATS FUNNY -
Now that is PROOF that you spend too much time in the woods Rembrant!

Friends know that I hunt and ask me from time to time about it. They ask about the rules, dates, game animals one can hunt, etc.... When it comes to poaching....I....elaborate....exagerate....flat out lie. I tell them what I think should be done. I SAY that if you get caught with a illegal taken deer in the wrong area, wrong dates, wrong speices that AZG&D will confiscate your rifle , your truck, and you and all those you have applied with will not be able to hunt for a minimun of 5 years, and be fined up to $5000!! I only wish that were true! I truly wish AZG&F were that tough on caught poachers. I realize that it is hard to actually catch poachers BUT when they do AZG&F should really put it to them. Make an example of poachers! Falls......sorry to here that the WM you dealt with never said thanks but let me tell you now THANK YOU Even if nothing really happend to then in the end, it makes me proud to know that fellow hunters are working against poachers. I was shocked to learn at my hunter ed class two years ago that when a poacher is caugh shooting at those fake deer when AZG&F does those stings that the shooters do not even get there tag pulled. They get a ticket but can STILL LEGALLY HUNT! I thought that was a bunch of BULL$HIT! I had better stop now, I can go on and on with this one. Sorry to go off so much.......poachers have a special"place in my heart"

That had to hurt! And one of my fears as well, but what I had to go thru to get my RF I would still be looking for it right now if I lost mine.

In 32 while scouting I saw 5 MD does all with twins, only one lone doe had no fawn. Then later that day saw 3 does with 5 fawns. I failed to find ANY coyotes were at least one is seen. Some one did a great job on the coyotes before I got there, I was happy about that! Amanda, I hope you do great with the elk in 6A! I know you will have a great time! More than a month away and I am already getting excited!!

.270 You should stay FAR AWAY from Mexico! All it is a big pain, and not worth your trouble and time.

Scottyboy My ears stood up when you said lion tracks! I have been after a lion for some time now with no luck. We found a water hole with 3 lion kills over the last 2 years, two does and a big coues buck. we had been seeing tracks pretty regular but no luck. Now there have not been any track for 3 months and I still have the "lion bug" in me. If you can/will point me in the right direction I would apreciate it. I don't want to cause any problems for you or any one else for that matter. I don't even have a 36C deer tag. We drew a 32 mulie tag (had to keep my hunting partner, my wife, happy) So if you can/want to then cool. If not, no hard feelings. I will still walk the hills one way or the other.

Good point Josh!

Great job! Don't worry, at least you found him. Yoiu might not get to enjoy eating him but you will always have a great reward for all your hard work! Did you have pictures of him, trail cam or maybe how you found him? how was he hit? I only ask because my worst fear is to lose a deer or any game animal!

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A
More D replied to BACKCOUNTRY's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This a sad sad time. My prayers go out to the family Regardless if the ugly crime was commited by drug runners, illegals, or what ever. This messes with our safey zone, home away from home, our escape. This season I had decided that I was not going to carry my 45 because of the extre weight but now while out in the field, she is not comming off ......... ever. And I thought I was being paranoid by glassing the truck before geting back to it and walking around it to make sure it was clear. I had always done that because your truck = no more walking to some one who has walked alot. Let us pray and be safe out there. And TRY to have a good time still. -
GREAT JOB TSM!!!!! LOOKS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SEASON FOR YOU! YOU SURE STARTED IT OFF RIGHT.

Lion Stalking deer
More D replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Very cool pic!! I have also seen a picture of some Desert Bighorn Sheep along the Colorado river that had in the very top right hand of the pic was a lion stalking the sheep. The photo was taken of the sheep not even knowing that the lion was in close to the sheep. It was a great photo. It was a few years ago but I will try and track it down and get it posted. I might not be able to find it but if I do I hope it is OK. -
