Although I have only shot targets and dirt with my bow I have read lot about broadheads. Look at bowsite.com and do a search for "5 shot" This guys does alot of testing on broadheads and save guys like us lots of money. He tests broadheads buy shooting them in tires, plywood, a 55gal drum! Not deer per say but gives an idea about toughness, durability, etc... He says good things about the Slick Tricks among others. The sleeper that did VERY good was the Gold Tip Centurion and they are not expensive either!

rivers west apparel
More D replied to azhuntnut's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I just recieved a catalog from river west and it is nice and expensive. From what I read very durable, very quiet, very waterproof, and warm. Some guys said that it might be too warm.............so who knows? -
I'd love to see a picture of that!

ya big dummyerer seriously isn't the .270 a necked up down 30-06? I think so...........even if you don't want to. There once was a beautiful custom '06 left handed thumb hole stock(may be a David Miller job) that was ruined by shooting .270 thru it. I might be bull but thats how my uncles told it. Iremember seeing it when I was younger and thats the story they tell as to why its no longer around.

I like this idea too! I work for Cyracom int. We do over the phone interpretation for hospitals(mostly),INS, Customs,BP(Scottys boss), Fed and State prisons, courts, etc..etc..etc. The great part is that I work from home. It lets me spend time with the family, go to school, and in the hills! I could help you boys and girl in any way I can just let me know, I KNOW you all have contact with customers/clients who speak spanish.

Once again Lark, well said. and '06 is better that .270

anyone gonna be carying new gear this year?
More D replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Sad to say that no new hunting gear to report, but I too am a gear junkie. So I don't need anything but wants are a whole different ball game. We did get a new Armada with the hopes of buying a travel trailer later but I still have to sell that Buick I STILL have for sale. But worse case we will have to sleep in the tent for deer and rent a room in happy jack lodge for elk. Darn We all are truly blessed. -

Last season I was lucky enough to take a nice muley. From my 30-06 I was shooting a handloaded 150grn SST because it was giving great accuracy, a hair under 3/4 inch if I did my part. I like the plastic tipped style bullet as long as the shots a far. The shot was just past my self imposed limit of 400 yards at 406. He was quartering away, no wind(at least where I was), he was feeding calmly amd aside from the setting sun, I was in no hurry. I hit him abit farther back than I would have liked, it entered behind the last rib and exit tight to the off sholder. The bullet never hit bone and left and exit hole about the size of a quarter. As I mentioned it never hit bone but boy did it do a number on him. The part of the stomach, the liver, and right lung all looked like they were chopped to tiny bits. A bit messy but it worked! My wifes last deer was a Big bodied muley as well and her shot at just over 100 yard was perfect. She hit him right on top of the ball of the front sholders. She at first though she missed because she could not see him but he dropped stright down and never even kicked. The exit was the size of a silver dollar, the bullet was a Nosler BT. That deer was a pleaser to field dress. Hope this helped!

Hey AFB, I hear that a GREAT Tag! My cousin worked there on a project and saw a few Elk.

Bill has hit on something that has bugged me for quite some time, the hunting shows that I watch sooooo much. I watch ALOT of hunting shows, pretty much anything that is on except turkey hunting. No offence I just don't understand it even though I apply every chance I get. Anyways I watch my shows and others around me have to watch with me. Every one knows I love hunting and many non-hunters only exposer to hunting is TV shows. MANY, MANY shows are on "ranches" and all but a few use baits/baited areas to hunt over. I know you have seen it before: camo head to toe sitting in a box, some even have heaters. That box, as Bill said, has been sitting there for years and baited just as long. That is shooting not hunting. UNETHICAL. I/we get grouped into the same pile as those hunters. We are the only ones who know about pre-pre-dawn breakfasts and hour long morning walks in darkness just get to our spots. Then we do get some thing the real work starts. My family/hunting party we butcher our own meat, none of this donate crap! We like to make our own chorizo and give away to family and friends. I give as much as I can and in some ways because I am proud and also because many people think that deer meat is gross funny tasting meat untill they are chopping down on mine and after the third time they say how much they like it I tell then what it is! I will give you as much as I can but my petpive(sp?) is when I hand them my HARD ERNED chorizo they say "Thats it, only 3 packs?" I respond "your right, I will take these back and give you a BIG bag later!" I don't ever give that person any of my meat again. Most don't know how hard we work at doing what we love. No truck/quad rides to heated "shooting" boxes over long time baited areas or "senderos" here.

Great advice on this one....as always. I to have chased the muleys in the 36's grasslands. Some days it GREAT the next nothing! stick with it. I too saw a large herd of good looking muleys east of the Buenos Aires house just outside of the boundery (huntable). They might be large in size because they learned to dance on the boundery line. Kendog: Might you show us a pic of your deer, at least to keep the archery fire alive?!? My hunting partner spend alot of Dec/Jan archery season in the hills trying to do what you did last year. Thanks

SST is Hornady non-bonded version of the Interbond, like Noslers Balistic tip.

Great find!! It even looks like it has or had a little junk on the L G2, BEAUTIFUL!!!

I drew a 32 muley tag and thats it! My wife drew a 6a muzzy tag. My hunting partner drew a 6A archery cow tag!!! All in all not to bad! Predator: You drew a 6A muzzy tag as well?? Cow or bull?? Congrats to all who drew!! and to who didn't I know you will enjoy your dec tags next year!!!

Guilty as charged! I am lucky enough to work from home, and so that I don't lose it completly I'm on the computer am I do my rounds of a few sites. cwt.com is my favorite! The summer it(I) am worse, no school, NO HUNTING, all we do is wait for the draw results so that we can start to plan for the fall (hopefully and GOD willing)! -
You had better watch out Lark! while the draw has already been done, the draw GODS still have the power to change things......for the worst! Especailly for getting my hopes and nerves all wound up!

I'm going with BH4life's prediction because that means that we will know TODAY! OH I'M HURTIN HERE!!
